25.01.2022 Our New Zealand guests today came off a cruise ship to join us for a Half Day Baywatch tour. It was wet to start but cleared half way through, however the bushfire smoke engulfed the City and the Bay throughout the day and made some sights difficult to see. Undaunted by our weather we explored Docklands then travelled over both major bridges for our tour of historic Williamstown, with walks out onto Gem Pier, a visit to the morgue, and a special treat at the Timeball Tower as... out guests got to go inside it! ONLY at Trike Tours Melbourne! When we came back over the bridge to explore the eastern side, the F1 race circuit was high on the agenda, and then off to St Kilda beach and down to the Brighton beach boxes. A final stop at Half Moon Bay to check out our colonial history before dropping off our guests back at their cruise ship. 24.01.2022 A belated Christmas present for our local guests today, who chose a West Gate and Williamstown tour on a beautiful Melbourne day. We explored Docklands and took a peek at the Enterprise replica ship that moors there, then flew over our two largest bridges, inhaled some Vegemite as we passed the factory, and on to Williamstown! But first we visited the West Gate memorial, unknown to so many locals, then explored the sights of Williamstown - a walk out onto Gem Pier, visited the Morgue, the Timeball Tower and the Fort, and checked out the beach on the way past. 24.01.2022 A young couple from India, visiting Melbourne on their honeymoon, joined us today for a Lake and Bay View tour. Unfortunately Melbourne was covered in smoke from our bushfires in the East and views across the Bay were not possible. Nonetheless, our passenger is a car racer and bike enthusiast so he was keen to explore the Formula 1 AGP circuit - albeit probably preferring us to go a bit quicker! The Bay was offering a cool breeze as we explored St Kilda firstly, then the Brig...hton Beach boxes, stopping at both locations for a walk around. 21.01.2022 HOW TO ASSIST THE TOURISM INDUSTRY - when it returns. Hi all. The tourism industry comprises businesses of all sizes. However, many of the more interesting tour options out there are from small companies like mine. Whilst mine has now closed because of the recent and still current events, when tourism and travel can start again there is something you personally can do to directly support all of those small tour companies and businesses - the one or two person operators, like ...me. BOOK DIRECTLY WITH THE TOUR COMPANY! Many tour operators use a Booking Agent, as I did, for some tour products. Companies like Red Balloon, Viator, etc. Like all parasites, there are benefits and disadvantages: they do provide us with bookings, but they cost tour operators a 20% or 25% commission. Gift Voucher sites like Red Balloon then allow their customers (they are not the tour operators customers) up to 3 years to use the voucher - and in 3 years tour operator costs can go up a lot with normal operating costs. Not ideal. So please, SUPPORT YOUR SMALL TOUR OPERATOR AND BOOK DIRECTLY WITH THEM! Cut out the middle person: your tour operator will appreciate it - and let them know you did it, it will bring a smile to their face. 20.01.2022 The UK based Luxury Travel Guide has just called by phone to advise me that Trike Tours Melbourne has won their "Private Tour Experience of the Year 2019/20" award for Australia, in their Asia & Australasia category! Under changes for this year, they tell me the award is not State based, but national, and my company is the sole winner of this category. Two years ago when I won Boutique Tour Operator of the Year it was State based and further categorised. Apparently, also rar...e is to have the same company as repeat winners. Documentation to come. 18.01.2022 We had a great 6 hour custom tour today to the Dandenongs as Chantell and her more private friend joined us to #experiencetherush with #triketoursmelbourne. 17.01.2022 A couple from London joined us today for a Lake and Bay View tour, and they enjoyed a beautiful warm morning to explore. Our female guest screamed with excitement for about 200 hundred metres when we started the tour, as she loves to go fast. We explored the F1 race track and took some photos down there, with our gent passenger an F1 fan. We stayed within the speed limit on the track, as we do elsewhere, of course, and then headed to the Bay and down to St Kilda. We stopped... and explained a bit of Melbournes history, then gave our guests a tip on where to see some penguins, before heading to the Espy Markets for a short walk on foot. And, yes, our lady passenger made a purchase! Down to Brighton beach boxes we went, then to Half Moon Bay in Black Rock to see our old colonial warship, the Cerberus. A honeymooning couple from India joined us today and survived what our lady guest described as "scary seagulls" that attacked her husbands ice cream and stole it from him! 13.01.2022 Anastasia and Ben from Murrumbeena joined us today for a 6 hour Geelong and Queenscliff tour. It was a misty start to the day but the sun broke through and it was a lovely day. We hit the Waterfront in Geelong for a walk and coffee, and spotted Billy Brownless wandering around. The #GeelongBotanicalGardens was a hit with Ben the gardener. From there we headed to Queenscliff where we all enjoyed a great seafood lunch at the Harbour, and visited the lookout tower for views acro...ss the Bay. 12.01.2022 Mother and daughter duo Karin and Tamara joined us today from the hills to the East of Melbourne for a West Gate and Williamstown tour to celebrate Karins xxth birthday (well keep the secret)! Well, Karins a character and so was Tamara. Laughter and humming characterised our tour today, with all three of us having a laugh and Karin humming away in enjoyment throughout the tour! At first I thought Id left the music on in the helmet, but it was just Karin. Both enjoyed ...exploring Docklands and the ride over our two major bridges, but Williamstown is where its at so a walk out onto Gem Pier was just the trick. I then told Karin Id take her to the Morgue, and the colour drained from her face! But I only meant Victorias first Morgue around the corner from the Pier. When she saw it, she understood. 11.01.2022 What started out as a Great Ocean Road day tour finished up as a Yarra Valley and Wineries day tour - did we take the wrong turnoff? Not quite. The GOR tour was heavily washed out two weeks ago part way through so we abandoned it and agreed to repeat the tour, with our guests Renee and Meaghan deciding to try the Yarra Valley & Wineries tour instead. These women attract precipitation! It started off a little wet this morning but quickly turned into a great day. Keen Formula 1 followers I think the race circuit was their highlight of the tour - something about our lady guest chanting Hamilton, Hamilton, gave it away! Construction of the circuit began last week and is flying along with several grandstands well underway. 07.01.2022 Two self confessed Thelma and Louise wannabies by the names of Teresa and Jenny joined us today for a very damp St Kilda Beach Precinct tour with a drop off at the Espy for lunch. The ladies are into trying different things but the heavy drizzle didnt make things photogenic so we kept the camera in our pocket, and a couple of images didnt come out at all. But Teresa and Jenny did so we explored Albert Park and the F1 circuit - that revved both of them up, before we headed i...nto St Kilda for a look at a number of landmarks. 04.01.2022 Who said Kiwis cant fly? Our mother and daughter guests today - Dianne and Ashton - are Kiwis who live in Perth and flew over for the weekend to explore some of Melbourne. As neither of them barrack for the Eagles or the Dockers we let them proceed with our St Kilda Beach Precinct tour and we all had a lot of fun! We did have some reservations about Ash, though, as shes a Collingwood supporter. All in good jest, of course, and so we travelled the F1 grand prix circuit... with our guests and then headed to St Kilda. Rain threatened so we put on our waterproofs to call its bluff, and that worked and it didnt rain. So we explored Docklands and the Enterprise replica ship, went past the film studios, and over our two main bridges and visited the West Gate Memorial. From there we ventured into historic Williamstown and walked out onto Gem Pier for some views and facts about the area, then th...e Morgue summoned us, before we were able to locate the Timeball Tower for some more history.
