25.01.2022 Glute activation is a fundamental ability no matter what sport/goal you are training for. The single leg squat is one of the most effective sport specific resistance conditioning exercises available that focuses on glute activation. Most sport/training skills are performed with an alternate/independent leg action (running, cycling etc) and the single leg squat develops this independent strength. This squat also will activate the core and work on your balance and stability. I... have been concentrating on Glute activation, especially focussing on getting more depth in my single leg squat. I started using something that allowed me to reach 90 degrees now I am doing more than 90 degrees. Start yourself using your couch and simply trying to stand using one leg squeezing the glute on that side. If that is easy then try to lower yourself to the couch while activating the glute and then try to stand up. As you progress you can limit your rest at the bottom or increase your depth as I have.

25.01.2022 Race one of the Australian National Junior Series! What an awesome centre and facility here for the athletes to use for training big and racing!

25.01.2022 Who hates kick sets? An easier way to complete kick sets... And to annoy everyone else in the pool

21.01.2022 Stoked for Peter completing his first Marathon and smashing it! I have been working with Peter and Cat (who smashed the Melbourne Half Marathon in a 2:04) since July and both have been motivated and committed to hitting their goals. Peter the last two weeks has been going through lots of knee problems. But with mixing his training up to incorporate some water running continued to improve his fitness and manage the load on the knees for him to continue training and complete th...e @melbournemarathon this past Sunday! Consistency in training and determination is key to achieving your goals as well as sticking to the plan. If you need any help with your training for Triathlons, Running or any other goals feel free to contact me. I believe in balancing your training plan around all aspects and create flexible, efficient and effective training plans.

19.01.2022 Coaching is all about Balance! If you cannot create a balanced training program to cope with life’s challenges and daily tasks then the athlete will not achieve what they are seeking to achieve. Last weekend was great to be involved and manage the Triathlon South Australia State Team at the first round of the Australian Youth & Junior Triathlon Series. I learnt so much and gained valuable knowledge to pass on and to help guide my athletes further!

18.01.2022 Bit different for me the day before Murray Man - Long Course Triathlon.... on the calling over the 300+ athletes!!! Also get to watch my athletes from the Adelaide Triathlon Club that have been building the past 16 weeks for the race!!!

17.01.2022 You never get a free lane in a race! So simulate some race environments to help race day feel comfortable and relaxed

17.01.2022 Taper week; -You can still work hard in your sessions but keep them very short -Stay hydrated but DON’T over drink -Relax with a massage, stretching or yoga. -REST/SLEEP... -Remember you don’t get fit Race Week! A few athletes of mine this week have the big race this Sunday! They have done the work and now trust in the training and enjoy the day! Good luck to all racing! I’ll be tracking

15.01.2022 Wednesday morning swim squad with Adelaide Triathlon Club... Just over two weeks to Murray Man - Long Course Triathlon almost taper time! If you are near the Adelaide aquatic centre and want a swim session contact me on details how to become a member to come along on a Wednesday morning!

14.01.2022 Taper time for some. As race week comes remember... Don’t: 1. Leave your bike tune to last minute book it in early... 2. Go out and buy a bunch of new go-faster gear. Stick with what you trained with and use the new gadgets in training before the next race. 3. Try any new wonder diets/fads. Stick with what has worked in training and try new theories out in training before you use them in any race. 4. Don’t fill up your days doing other things just because your training has reduced. Rest means rest! And stay away from the sick!! . 5. Over rest. A common mistake in race week can be over resting and letting the system become stale. It’s important to keep blood flowing around the body as it has become accustomed to through the training. Keep moving with shorter workouts and small amounts of intensity while not pushing too deep. 6. Go in to race mode too early. Keep some intensity on, but do not race your race on your workouts the week of the race. NO KOM ATTEMPTS save it for race day. 7. Don’t over eat. Remember that you’ll be exercising less, so you don’t necessarily need to eat more than normal to carbo-load. Just eat normally throughout the week, favouring healthy, real foods. 8. Don’t rush yourself on race morning. Get up with a reasonable amount of time to allow yourself to wake-up, eat, and get your pre-race bathroom trips out of the way. You don’t get fitter race week

14.01.2022 ....When your squad takes up the whole pool! #triactive

12.01.2022 First race kicks off at 5pm #gotrisa

11.01.2022 This week a lot our athletes are all about finding out their baseline; this is where we see where they are at the moment and creating goals with where they want to be or get to for a certain goal/race. This information is critical for the planning and structure of their programs! So don’t get scared when you see the word TEST or TIME TRIAL!

10.01.2022 Hump day!!!! Nothing beats staring at the black line. What do you do in the pool or other training sessions to push past hump day or mentally tough days? Do you sing, talk to yourself?

08.01.2022 First session down for these 17 people who have signed up for the 6 week TriActive Program with Triathlon South Australia!! Some are training for their first triathlon some are doing it to train with a group and others to increase their fitness! That is the beauty about triathlon training; you can train as a group all for the same goal or for your own individual goal!!! #triactive

05.01.2022 What a great experience the last 5 days have been basing myself at the AIS. I was there to support the SA State Team compete at the @capitaltrilogytriathlon run by @triathlonACT, even managed to take the overall win in the Age Group Race. We then went into a High Performance camp where 3 of SA’s upcoming athletes were based at the AIS with 30+ other athletes working with some highly credible Australian Coaches. I have learnt lots and have some thoughts and more knowledge to help guide you to your goals and dreams no matter how big, no mater what (Triathlon, Running or Fitness) Watch this space

05.01.2022 Awesome experience calling home all the athletes at the 2018 Murray Man - Long Course Triathlon! I had a great experience and loved watching all the achievements of all the individuals including the athletes I have helped along the way to this race! All finished and some new PBs created! Thanks to Adelaide Triathlon Club for letting me have some fun on the microphone and to my partner on the microphone Matty White Training giving up his time today to help call the athletes home! Bring on 2019 Murray Man!

03.01.2022 1km repeat session= quality = time efficient = balance #trilifebalance

03.01.2022 COACHING TIP: Who uses Training Peaks and actually understands CTL.... hear is a base table to give you an indication on what training peaks sets as goal CTL and TSS scores for certain training loads to complete certain distances. It is crucial to understand not only these values but the fatigue and form values that are graphed against your CTL.... PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT FOR EVERYONE! Everyone has their own goals/schedules/training plan/motivations etc.... It is cruicial to take into account everything when developing your training plan for your training goals. Please contact me if you want to chat about them and want to know more about creating the perfect plan for you training and racing aspirations. Train Hard but SMART!! Jason

02.01.2022 With it being the start of race season for Triathlon and for a lot of other running and cycling events. it is critical to have a dedicated plan to help you achieve your goals. The feedback from clients once they reach their goals is the best feedback a coach can get and receive as it highlights how far that person has come from the start of their journey!!! Where is your journey taking you too? what is your next finish line?

02.01.2022 Bit of transition practice for one of the young athletes heading over to @supersprintweekendrunawaybay for the 1st round of the Australian Youth & Junior Triathlon Series. Every second counts in this style of racing, so working on the 1% in transition can be key to being in the lead group or missing it. Do you work on the 1%ers if so what’s your favourite session/workout

01.01.2022 3 weeks down 3 weeks to go before the Triathlon South Australia @triactive program will be at the start line!
