20.01.2022 Last Tuesday on the 25th of May 2021, our Preschool Teacher, Ms Michela presented a Transition to School Night to our families who are preparing to send their child to Kindergarten in 2022. Ms Michela invited the primary schools in the local area and we were honoured to have representatives from Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Primary School Gladesville and Gladesville Public School join us and discuss the process for enrolment and orientation which is unique to their educat...ional system and organisation. We value the collaboration and support from community at Trinity Early Learning Centre and we also love to use this when building our curriculum and programs. Specfically, Ms Michela designs her term plans with the input from her families and the local primary schools in the area. Their expectations and learning goals, along with her own and the children's, are what guides the term plans. What is a term plan you may ask? It is an additional program in our preschool room which looks at developing 'life readiness' or as some like to call it, 'school readiness'. This includes numeracy and literacy skills, attitudes and dispositions for learning, independence and self-help skills, emotional and social skills, to just name a few. Within the last 6 months, we have found that our families and schools have expressed their focus on the importance for their children to be emotionally and socially ready for formal schooling. Rightly so, Ms Michela implemented this in her most recent term plan and interestingly, this was also discussed on the night and as always there's the question which rises "how do I know if my child is ready for formal schooling?" Our presenters for the night gave harmonious feedback which was that the most important skills and knowledge needed for formal schooling was not the ABCs and 123s, but a strong self esteem, confidence to communicate and make friendships, the willingness to learn, and self-help skills.

14.01.2022 #morethanaword We are so excited and proud to begin Reconciliation Week with steps already taken. At Trinity Early Learning Centre, we know that Reconciliation Week is about action, not just words. We know the best way to implement change and improvement is through critical reflection and embedding these ideas in our policies, procedures and routine. ... This year we look at Reconciliation Week as an opportunity to dive deeper into what we are doing at the centre and how we are making meaningful connections with the indigenous people of the land we call home.

11.01.2022 In 1998, we started to commemorate the mistreatment of the indigenous people of our land with Sorry Day. We implement many opportunities for learning of other cultures and it is equally important to acknowledge the indigenous people of our land and the events that have come to shape history, as well as government policies, initiatives and even our curriculum. Today we reflect on the way we are healing our country and forging respectful ties to the indigenous people of Austr...alia. We also wish to acknowledge the strength needed to endure such inhumane acts and while today is just a day, it symbolises so much more. It is about human rights.

07.01.2022 This week is Infant Mental Health Awareness Week (7 - 13 June) - highlighting the importance of babies' emotional wellbeing and development. Our centre philosophy and the practices in our nursery room greatly support the mental health of our little ones. When asking our educators about their approaches to mental health in the nursery room, they critically reflected and replied "emotional coaching and regulation is big for this age group and what we're trained in, it's about a...cknowledging their cries and never ignoring them". Call us on 9817 1477 or email us at [email protected] to meet our caring and experienced educators, and to book a tour of our centre today. #infantmentalhealth

03.01.2022 Brr! Who else woke up and thought about how chilly it was this morning? In perfect harmony, our art therapy lesson this morning was all about the colour blue and the way famous Australian artist, #brettwhiteley , uses the colour in his artworks to express meaning. But first we sat down to meditate, breathe and practice mindfulness. We also spoke about the way the colour blue can make us feel - sometimes with feelings of warmth like the when we think of summer and the blue...s in the ocean, and then cold with the blues of wintery skies and scapes. This discussion inspired many friends in our preschool room to speak about visiting the #BlueMountains when it's winter time and the memories we have of snow. After this, all preschool children were invited to create a wintery scene using blue and white paint, as well as soft cotton. Children used the cotton to paint, some made comments about the cold and wet texture, as well as the softness of the cotton. While painting, we talked about the shades of blue in Brett Whiteley's artworks and how they became lighter by adding white. There was lots of experimentation on paper after realising this. The art-making process enabled children to develop their fine motor skills, a richer vocabulary of words, to be exposed to iconic Australian artists, and to fine-tune their artistic eye for detail while connecting to mind and body. We are so excited to see what Ms Justine has planned for her next visit!

02.01.2022 What a beautiful way to start the day! Ms Ceci beginning the day on a musical note and inviting her children to explore their untapped talents in our preschool room. "Studies in neuroscience show that music can enhance brain function in children. Musical activities (such as playing an instrument, singing or just listening to music) stimulate the brain, and this brain workout leads to improved brain structure with the formation of new neural connections" - Learning Potenti...al - Musical Benefits If you're curious about our amazing educators and rich curriculums across our centre, call us on 02 9817 1477 or email us at [email protected] to book a tour. #musicneuroscience #musicalbenefits #learningthroughplay
