23.01.2022 It was my honour and privilege to be part of awarding the NSW Premier’s Emergency Citations @blackheath Mt Victoria RFS today. Alongside our District Manager, Super Medianik & the community, we acknowledged the effort & commitment of these Firefighters during the Black Summer.
20.01.2022 Earlier this week I was treated to a tour of Headspace Katoomba by Sian and Liv from the Youth Advisory Committee. The importance and necessity of the work of Headspace is undeniable, offering accessible, free mental health support for locals aged 12 - 25. To Debra, Sian, Liv and the rest of the team, a heartfelt thank you from our community. If you or anyone you know needs to reach out, call Headspace Katoomba on 1800 478 626 or drop in to 37 Waratah Street Katoomba.... Headspace Katoomba

15.01.2022 UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women... Each year on the 25 November women and men across the globe take action to raise awareness of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This day also marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. One in three women experience physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner. This year alone we have seen the deaths of 45 women across our nation. ...This is a national tragedy. Let’s put the safety of women and children at the heart of everything we do. I call on our governments to make sure that laws and resources are in place to protect victims and that agencies are funded to provide the help needed. 13.01.2022 I visited my friends, Billy and Sarah yesterday, at their beautiful property in Mt Tomah. The 2019/20 fires had come uncomfortably close to their home but miraculously, it escaped unscathed We walked around their garden and they pointed out the 50 or so trees that need to be felled, each of them, try as they might, unable to survive after a hard fought battle against the firestorm. With sadness they told me about the wildlife that had not returned to their garden after the f...ires. Amidst the re-telling of the day the fires hit, Billy and Sarah spoke of their plans looking ahead, a heartening reminder that amongst the devastation there is hope and better days and that life renews. We took a drive afterwards to Berambing, to visit the wollemi wilderness cabins. What Lionel Buckett and his team have created here is nothing short of breathtaking. Lionel spoke of his experiences of the bushfires and how each of the dwellings, which utilise solar energy, are respectful of the environment, built from non-combustible materials and amazingly unique - survived the firestorm. Surely this adds weight to the campaign for eco-tourism! Check out the images below and let me know what you think...
11.01.2022 Today is Surf Life Saving NSW Volunteer Recognition Day. Let’s take a moment to acknowledge and thank this remarkable organisation of 75,000 volunteers, who work tirelessly to save lives and keep us safe at the beach.
11.01.2022 On the eve of these official National awards, amid a selection of remarkable candidates, I am so proud of Grace Tame: Australian of the Year 2021. Thank you Grace, Advocate for survivors of sexual assault. Thank you for your bravery & courage; for fighting to speak. Too many rape victim-survivors are silenced.... The message here: validating your truth, highlighting gendered violence & holding perpetrators to account for their abuse - this is honoured through you & your award. As the Shadow Minister the Prevention of Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault & Shadow Minister for Women, I feel hopeful that your voice encourages others & the change we need. . . . Eat my fear, indeed. #LetHerSpeak Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia

07.01.2022 In celebrating NAIDOC week, I pay my respects to our First Nations people. I’m very proud to represent the Blue Mountains, to honour our Elders & take guidance from the Darug & Gundungurra in recognising /protecting Country.
06.01.2022 Mt Tomah & surrounds today formally honoured their community - well after a year down the track from those 2019/20 Black Summer fires which ravaged the landscape, homes & their lives . Today we thanked the Mt Tomah Rural Fire Brigade & presented them with their Citation awards. I had the privilege of joining Nick Medianik Nsw Rfs in being part of this significant event. Many locals have recently joined their Brigade & were presented with BF certificates, also. Today the sun was shining, people mingled & we remembered - as we all heal. What a fantastic, strong community! NSW Rural Fire Service
06.01.2022 The Liberal Government has made QR codes mandatory on entry into all venues. What they have failed to do however is provide good information on what this means. Let me know what you think and tell me about your experiences. I acknowledge that some of you may not be happy with the idea of data collection en masse, so let me know what you think about that too.My office will write to the Minister and pass on your questions and comments.... Please see the following link, which may help to remove some of the mystery surrounding mandatory QR codes: https://www.abc.net.au//nsw-new-mandatory-qr-code/12912158
06.01.2022 What a relief. Biden & Harris! #inauguration2021 This, however, is the shining highlight... We lift our gazes not to what stands between us but what stands before us.
02.01.2022 I spoke with Wendy and Robbie on ABC Sydney this morning about why Government must invest in Firefighting services NOT strip them back. As I said, this is a dangerous proposal - relocating water tankers to other areas of need. Our BM is one of the most bush-fire prone areas in the world Government has a duty of care to support communities with Fire and Rescue NSW crews, not diminish them. If other stations need resources, Government should provide them. This is a case of ro...bbing Peter to pay Paul. I will stand with our community and support retention of our Fire trucks and the jobs attached to their use. Have a listen and share this post to spread the word. We must keep pressure on the NSW Government! Fire Brigade Employees' Union (FBEU) See more
