25.01.2022 A good news story: This is a process where people are coming together to say, hey, we actually do care about our local history and heritage, and if governments arent adequately, I would argue, looking after our heritage, Australias heritage and Indigenous heritage, then you know, the locals and good people can Mr Johnston said... https://www.nativetitlesa.org/abori/one-place-many-stories

22.01.2022 February 2020 was a busy fieldwork month for us on projects from the mountains to the coast... Here's a taster of some of our workplace views along with the conditions we worked in. Happy Digging!

22.01.2022 Hope everyone's staying healthy and safe. Last week was a very busy, being our last week in the field for the forseeable future.... Time to unpack and catch up on some report writing. Best wishes to all! Andy

19.01.2022 A day of two extremes.... I managed to both bog the ute and flatten the battery as we worked amongst masses of mosquitos and a labyrinth of spider webs strung between the ti-tree (thanks to Deb, Minta and Eric for all your hard work in the difficult conditions). On the plus side, we were visited by Kutcha Edwards, an amazing musician and person that I've admired since first hearing him share his deeply personal version of Paul Simon's "Mother and Child Reunion" many years ago. Drove home with a smile...Happy Wednesday! Andy

19.01.2022 Hope everyone had a great St Patricks Day yesterday! A big thanks to Google for the free advertising and thanks to Bec at Life Digital for bringing it to our attention!

18.01.2022 Some days it's easier (and safer) to let the long-handled mechanical trowel do the hard work...

18.01.2022 It's National Archaeology Week! Here's a link to events taking place all over Australia: http://www.archaeologyweek.com/

17.01.2022 Take note: Triskel Heritage Consultants has had a (minor) change of name to Triskel Heritage Pty Ltd. We'll be updating our name and new ABN on various platforms over the coming weeks. All other contact details remain the same. Thanks for your ongoing interest and support!

16.01.2022 A lot of driving this week as well as a warm day digging in Alberton. Also found time to check out the site of 'Gippsland's Oldest Catholic Church' and the nearby currently used church dating from the 1870s.

14.01.2022 Back in the office after a well-needed break. Happy New Year and here's to a new start and better times ahead for everyone in 2021! Cheers, Andy

14.01.2022 Before our American cousins put the happy into happy halloween there were.... Scarey Turnips! Enjoy tonight https://www.museum.ie//Ghost-turnips,-pucas,-fortune-telli

13.01.2022 Great end to the week down at the Penguin Parade at Phillip Island! Had to get the survey done this week before the shearwaters (muttonbirds) arrive. Luckily the sun came out and finally gave us a taste of spring...

13.01.2022 An important part of our industrial heritage being destroyed. I'm sure it evokes mixed feelings in most but it is sad to see a constant of the landscape and skyline of the Latrobe Valley in living memory now changing forever.

13.01.2022 Bit late to the party for Women's Day, but a big shout out to Dani, Cat and Minta for an epic day's fieldwork during the week. Difficult conditions dealing with heat and cemented soils but they dug through it all with smiles on their faces and dare I say it dug even more holes than the similarly hard-working nearly all-male crew the day before :) Mighty effort!

12.01.2022 It's been a challenging 3 weeks but we got there in the end...Great weather for frogs.... Roll on Summer!

12.01.2022 A great week in the field with our new table sieve definitely making life easier. We had some moral support from a swamp wallaby and more pragmatic help from Ash, along with Issy, Steve and Tommy. Happy Friday everyone!

12.01.2022 Happy Christmas and New Years from Andy and Robyn at Triskel Heritage!

11.01.2022 Great to see Inverloch's maritime history being investigated by Heritage Victoria. http://www.abc.net.au//archaeologists-to-uncover-/10346750

11.01.2022 We were carrying out fieldwork in the Corinella this week and couldn't resist having a look at one of the memorials in the town. This one includes convict-made bricks from one of the earliest British attempts at settlement in what became, Victoria. Founded largely as a response to fears of French colonial interests, the settlement was started in 1826. (for context,Melbourne was founded later in 1835). The settlement was abondoned in 1828 when the fear of the French (and possibly fresh water supplies) subsided. The structures were destroyed at before leaving to avoid their use by others.

10.01.2022 History was made in our Parliament today when the First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria met formally for the first time. The Assembly will work with the Victorian... Government to set the ground rules of Treaty a voice on behalf of Aboriginal Victorians. Its members come from all walks of life. Women. Men. Country. City. Those with a few more years under their belt. Those with less. And they all bring different ideas and opinions and experiences to the Treaty process as they should. Treaty will be stronger for those differences. We've always said this process would be led by Aboriginal people, for Aboriginal people. And it is.

09.01.2022 Apologies to anyone trying to contact us over the last couple of days - feel free to try again, we've had long periods of no electricity, phone and internet due to the recent the storm. Fingers crossed - things seem to be getting back on track . Hope everyone's staying safe and here's to calmer weeks ahead... Andy

07.01.2022 Week 2 digging at the Penguin Parade

07.01.2022 Fantastic news! Worth a read and the article contains a fascinating video by the Traditional Owners. https://www.sbs.com.au//ancient-budj-bim-site-in-southwest

06.01.2022 Passed through Yarram today. Love the facade on the old Butter Factory.

06.01.2022 We don't do dinosaurs.... but today we met some people who do. Popped down to visit the palaeontologists at their dig site at Inverloch to get assistance identifying the raw material of some Aboriginal stone artefacts from a recent excavation (the stone had some micro-fossils in it). The jury is still out on the stone type but we enjoyed the fascinating talk on the fossils they've found so far. Looking forward to getting feedback on the artefact photos sometime soon.

04.01.2022 Paid a visit to the NGV (Fed Square, Melbourne) last week to view the exhibition on the frontier wars and the early days of the colony. Continues until mid July. A confronting and fascinating collection of images and objects. Highly recommended. Also an easy walk to the ongoing historical dig at Swanson St which can be viewed through a window in the hoarding. https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/exhi/colony-australia-1770-1861/

02.01.2022 Bit of a different style pit we dug during the week. Happy Easter everyone!

02.01.2022 Something to ponder over the weekend... Last week were carried out an Aboriginal assessment in Somers. No stone artefacts, but this mystery object did catch our eye. The 2-acre block it's on has an interesting history since the 1920s - school, recuperation house-hospital during the war, and then a camp for kids. Any ideas what this may have been?

02.01.2022 A few snaps from our first week digging at the Penguin Parade.

01.01.2022 New Aboriginal Heritage Regulations (2018) come into effect 23 May. From The AV website: What has changed with the introduction of the Aboriginal Heritage Regulations 2018? The new Regulations are substantially similar to the former Aboriginal Heritage Regulations 2007 with several key changes. These are:... nature conservation reserves defined under the Crown Land (Reserves) Act 1978 are areas of cultural heritage sensitivity the definition of waterway explicitly includes channelised sections of named waterways areas of cultural heritage sensitivity related to geological formations are more accurately mapped by relying on the recently published Surface Geology of Victoria 1:250,000 map book the listed high impact activities include residential buildings (such as residential hotels and hostels) and residential villages the prescribed fees more accurately compensate the decision maker for expenses in carrying out prescribed functions which incur a fee. Other changes include the addition of strategic fuel breaks as a high impact activity, and an increase to the length of walking and bicycle tracks that require a cultural heritage management plan. We'll share more information as it becomes available.
