25.01.2022 To show emotion is not a sign of weakness. By teaching this message to our younger generations we may have the chance to reduce the shame that prevents those experiencing mental health issues from seeking support. Suicide as the leading cause of death in 15-44 year olds is unacceptable. https://www.facebook.com/217982711661588/posts/1671177973008714/

18.01.2022 Many of us are so fortunate in Perth to be able to go about most of our daily lives as normal at the moment. However as life gets busier once again we need to remember to continue to strive for balance and include self-care in our routines. Quite often many get through difficult times only to fall in a heap once life returns to normal and the survival mode that has been active during a stressful phase of life can switch off.

16.01.2022 As the world navigates the COVID-19 situation, it creates an environment characterised by uncertainty. This can cause unease, increased stress and even anxiety for many individuals. There is so much focus upon what we can do to maintain and protect our physical health but what about our mental health? Increased stress and change can trigger various mental health issues not to mention social isolation and a loss of routine and enjoyable activities. This article provides some great information on the little steps we can all take ensure we stay mentally well during these unprecedented times. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51873799

16.01.2022 So grateful for programs such as 60 minutes for discussing mental health issues. Last week they discussed suicide and the under funding of mental health services. This week anxiety was the focus. https://www.facebook.com/60Minutes9/videos/1216746031728043/

15.01.2022 This is such a special message this R U Ok Day. Emphasising the importance of building a support network and having those around us who not only ask us if we are ok but know us well enough to realise when we are not and start that conversation.

14.01.2022 Depression is more than sadness. It is not just a feeling that passes but rather an illness that affects how a person feels emotionally and physically, how they think and what they do. https://www.facebook.com/Mental.Health.News.Hub/posts/1155959111197272

10.01.2022 I continue to be shocked by the number of people I meet who are working incredible amounts of overtime and are overwhelmed by the increased responsibilities and workload within their job. Stress is one of the biggest contributors to depression and anxiety and as such maintaining a healthy work life balance is integral to mental well-being. Beyond Blue has listed some tips on managing work hours just in time for Go Home On Time Day this Wednesday the 20th of November.

09.01.2022 This is a chance to let the government know how important it is to do something about the increasing suicide rates in Australia. Encourage them to put more funding into account reverting suicide by signing Lifelines petition before Monday.

08.01.2022 Most people take the time to learn how to assist with Medical First Aid. But how much do you know about Psychological First Aid? These tips outlined by Beyond Blue will help you to assist someone that is experiencing heightened anxiety or a Panic Attack. https://www.facebook.com/beyondblue/posts/10155846816013607

08.01.2022 The last 12 months have been challenging for many Australians, with the drought, bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve seen our lives change in how we work, engage with others and experience education or training. For many Australians this has been the first time they may have experienced mental health and wellbeing challenges. For others the events have exacerbated their difficulties and symptoms. So this year it is even more important to ask others Are you ok?. But most significantly ask at a time you have the space and time to listen to their needs.

A passionate artist faced with the prospect of never being able to do what she loved again after being involved in a bad car accident, she instead used her passion to fight through her chronic pain. What an amazing achievement this exhibition is for her!

03.01.2022 Waking during the night and not being able to get back to sleep can be frustrating. But for some people, this happens regularly and can develop into a vicious cycle leading to persistent insomnia and tiredness. This article is a great summary of some techniques I share with my clients who struggle with difficulties getting to sleep, either initially or in the middle of the night. http://coach.nine.com.au//08/11/17/how-to-fall-back-to-sle

02.01.2022 After speaking with so many people over the last few days, one theme really stood out. With so many massive changes to various areas of life all occurring at the same time without the ability to get any clarity on the future, individuals are feeling unsettled, anxious and distressed. It is times like these we need to focus upon ways we can ground ourselves. If one was on a boat in the middle of the ocean in a big storm, the only way to get through would be to drop an anchor t...o gain some stability while one rides the storm out and waits for it to pass. So how can we drop an anchor during this COVID-19 storm? By focusing on the small things that we can control, by keeping a routine, by exercising and engaging in activities we enjoy, by being creative in the ways we maintain our social connections. We need to look for the little joys in life, be present and breathe and know this storm will eventually pass. See more
