22.01.2022 Fun fact: Vietnam is the second largest producer of #coffee in the world after Brazil. . So, it would be rude not to indulge in all of the delicious caffeine fuelled beverages on offer. Vietnamese coffee, coconut coffee, egg coffee, yoghurt... hmm, maybe not that last one? . This is a typical iced Vietnamese coffee. Best enjoyed on a self-guided bike tour in 30deg heat & what feels like 100% humidity, en route to beers & a massage on the beach ... . Do you also love seeking out new coffee experiences in new places? Or prefer this goodness just as you know & love it? . . . . . #visitvietnam #vietnamesecoffee #morecoffeeplease #travel #budgettravel #backpacker #backpackerlife #vietnam #coupletravel #wanderlust #wordoftravel #ecotourism #fulltimetravel #travelblog #travelgram #tastesoftheworld #dametraveler #eggcoffee #coconutcoffee #sustainabletravel See more
14.01.2022 A Conversation to Drive Urgent Change Against Fast-Fashion from the Streets of Hoi An, Vietnam. Having spent the best part of (almost) 10 years working amid the fashion industry, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside some incredible teams whilst being exposed to the many facets of this industry. From international wholesale sales, to the other side of the trajectory buying, production planning and [ 1,712 more word ] http://trithisworld.com//whomademyclothes-improving-our-c/
10.01.2022 The beautiful streets of Hoi An. . It’s no secret that Hoi An’s labyrinth of streets are bustling with tailors & leather craftsman, at the ready to make everyone & anyone their next best pair of shoes, handbag, or specialty outfit. . Having seen the volume of services on offer, as well the many stores filled to the brim with stock, I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this? ... . Are we becoming that fussy or desperate for ‘new’ & ‘innovative’ that we really need more things, at this pace? Is their something wrong with the masses of threads currently in store that we now all need to be our own ‘designers’? . As beautiful as this city is, Hoi An is absolutely geared towards tourism & a consumer driven society. . Its many artisans are skilled to pump out a ‘tailor-made’ suit is <8 hours, for near to less than you would pay for a 3 course meal in Australia! To me, this doesn’t exactly spell ‘artisan experience’, neither ‘lasting quality’. But I get that this process is money in the bank for small business & a unique experience for others. . But, at what true cost? . Obviously, there is a sizeable gap in cost of living between western countries & Asia, but it has to be asked, for a ‘tailor-made’ suit (for eg.) to be made by a skilled worker at less than $100 AUD, where are we cutting corners to facilitate this? This mere price tag wouldn’t nearly cover the fabric meterage alone for a garment of this size & complexity on home soil. Yet, why here? . With consideration to currency exchange & other economical factors, something somewhere doesn’t add up. The supply chain for a single garment is massive. Whether it’s a 3 piece suit or a simple tank top, it’s origins are the same. From the field workers sewing & harvesting crop, to the millers & spinners, textile designers & fabric dyers, freight forwarders, garment designers & pattern makers, to the friendly sales associates who hands you your new purchase in that modest bag, which also isn’t free... . Fashion is a fickle process. Clothing is a necessity yet unfortunately it’s the second most polluting industry in the world. . Blog post to come & would be interested to hear your thoughts! #whomademyclothes See more
09.01.2022 I like Pina colada’s & being caught in the rain . I don’t actually like Pina colada’s, but I do love a tropical storm. And this one, was no exception. . On our first night in Hoi An the streets were so ridiculously busy with Vietnamese holidays in full swing. ... . It was clear there was a storm brewing off in the distance with sheet lightning filling the sky. Despite the crowds, who also seemed without concern to the inevitable, this together with watching the many gondolas & floating candles on the canal was pretty cool to see. . We got caught in this torrential downpour about a kilometre from home. It was hard not to laugh at its intensity, as well our being so soaked through with no where to hide. . Like little kids we ran through the puddles, laughing at this simple delight til we were home. It was such a fun moment & free of course! #budgettravel . 08.01.2022 The stunning colours of the sun setting on the rice fields. . We were lucky to catch this beautiful sun set after an afternoon spent cycling through the villages on the outskirts of Hoi An & relaxing on the coastline just south of An Bang Beach. . We pulled off the road several times to watch it go down, with the colours becoming more vivid through the smoke lifting from the fields. ... . Having been on the road for 10 months now, these past few days have most definitely felt more ‘holiday’ than full time travel. The dollar exchange certainly helps, but with views like this, it’s hard to not feel relaxed & incredibly grateful for the (almost) year that’s been. . Happy wkd! . . . . . #budgettravel #vietnam #visit #hoian #anbang See more
