23.01.2022 Just WOW! We had an amazing day with Tamworth Urban Landcare Group and lovely local volunteers this past Sunday at our Propagation Workshop! We had 33 people sign on with lots of new faces. 1,500 natives pricked out and tubed 5 native species of seed processed labelled and stored... 100’s pots weeded Mud seed ball making for the kids Extra thanks to Maree Dodson and Milly Hobson for cooking an excellent BBQ. Paul Moxon, Julie Clancy and Tim Duncan for all the expert knowledge sharing and answering all the questions from volunteers and Anne Michie for coordinating! Did you make our photo gallery? 05.01.2022 You are invited to join the Tamworth, Walhallow and Red Chief LALCs as we embark on a project to revitalise cultural fire knowledge on Gamilaraay Country. A se...ries of workshops will be held across our three LALCs throughout 2021 to build knowledge in understanding Country through the lens of a cultural burn practitioner. Workshop 1 will be held on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 May over three locations. The workshops will focus on knowledge sharing, understanding how to read Country and understand its need for fire. Participants are able to join the workshops in a single location or attend all three workshops for a more comprehensive learning experience. This workshop series has been made possible through funding from the Australian Government Indigenous Land and Fire Management Workshops Program and is provided free of charge to participants. Lunch will be provided. Please wear appropriate clothing including long sleeved cotton clothing and enclosed shoes. Our teaching team will include Cultural Burn Practitioner Den Barber from Yarrabin Cultural Connections, Ecologist Michelle McKemey and members of the Banbai Rangers, Guyra. 03.01.2022 We are seeking Expressions of Interest for Round two of the Koala Habitat Restoration Project. Tamworth Regional Landcare Association is reaching out to private... landholders in the Liverpool Plains and Gunnedah Shires to express interest in a koala habitat restoration project. Funded under the NSW Government’s ‘Saving Our Species’ (SOS) program, the project aims to procure at least thirty(30) hectares of new koala habitat across both Shires by the end of 2021. Tamworth Regional Landcare Association (TRLA) have a grant funding agreement with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment to oversee the Saving Our Species koala conservation project in the Gunnedah and Liverpool Plains region. The state-wide SOS program aims to secure threatened plants and animals in the wild in NSW. A total of $145,000 has been allocated to fund the program in the Gunnedah and Liverpool Plains LGAs. Tree planting, watering and maintenance of existing trees will occur while we enjoy the wonderful autumn weather. Morning tea provided. Please bring drinking water, enclosed shoes and sun protection.
