16.01.2022 Trojan Cricket bat leaving the bat cave - 2'9 and heading to Dubbo (central NSW)

16.01.2022 Then the process of shaping the bat commences. A variety of handtools are used to remove and shape the willow including - drawknife (a cooper's tool), hand plane, heel shave (a cobbler's tool), travisher (chairmaker's tool), spokeshave (wheelwright's tool) and a rasp/ file. After pressing of the willow, balancing of the bat is probably the most important part of batmaking. Removing weight (timber) from the shoulder and toe areas, and then shaping between those areas, gives t...he bat a certain balance (or pick-up). Putting aside the dead-weight of the bat, a bat will have a 'good' pick-up if the weight is evenly distributed over the length of the blade and there isn't too much weight close to the toe. Of course, its all down to personal preference, so a heavy bat with a 'bottom-heavy' balance may well have a good-pick for a few batsmen, but the majority of batsmen won't share that opinion.

12.01.2022 With cricket season looming on the horizon, now's the time to get the kit bag out of storage, dust it off and check out whether you need any new gear for the season. To help you keep all that gear in tip-top condition, Trojan Cricket is now selling kit bags in two sizes. Larger bag about 100 x 43 x 36cm in height, for $150. Smaller bag about 90 x 33 x 28cm in height, for $80. Both are wheelie bags.

11.01.2022 Plenty of Trojan bats in stock. Choose from 1st grade, 2nd grade or 3rd grade willow, and ranging from 2'10" to 2'15". Or have one custom-made to suit your game. Same prices as 2016-17.

09.01.2022 Once the glue has dried, the shoulders and toe of the bat are cut to shape. There is purpose-built machinery that can do this work, but I use a jigsaw to get the rough-shape of the shoulders and toe, before using hand tools to get the final shape and finish.

07.01.2022 Once the shoulders and toe have been cut to shape, the edges are marked out, as is the centreline on the back of the bat. The centreline shouldn't change as the bat is being shaped, while the shape of the edges may, depending on how the shaping of the bat progresses.

05.01.2022 Some slight tweaks to Trojan bat labels for 2017-18. Thanks to Richardson Design and Joker Signs and Stickers. If you've opened your kit bag for the first time since last season and thought 'this season I could do with a new bat', why not get in touch with Trojan Cricket so we can make you a bat that suits your game. Or, we've got bats in stock ready to go, so you can pick one off the shelf, and get into the runs without needing to wait.
