15.01.2022 Growing in our Trolley’d garden is the Calendula, an edible with most commonly yellow and gold-orange hues that vibrate with the Sun and the energies of joy, abundance, the Third Chakra, intellect, creativity and clarity. The taste is tangy, and the petals make a spunky garish that pops . The flowers open at sunrise and close at sunset Supposedly eating the flower allows you to see fairy folk Herbalists often used dried Calendula flowers as a tea for improving the... spirits of someone sad or depressed. In this form it also reduces cramps and fever. Overall this power flower offers antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antibacterial qualities. In India, Calendula is among the most sacred of flowers. In this setting it represents thankfulness, excellence and serenity. Marigolds adorning holy statues like a living necklace celebrating Nature in all her glory. On a similar note Christians often brought flowers to statues of the Virgin Mary. Thus we have the name Mary’s Gold. Also known as pot Marigold, Holligold, Bull’s Eyes and Gold bloom, another name is Summer’s bride because the head of this plant turns as the sun moves through the sky. 13.01.2022 Prepping WILD DRINKS for our upcoming ‘Wild Feast for a New Age’ lunch with @theweedyone & @marneefox , we are drawing inspiration from, and celebrating this amazing undervalued ‘weed’ . The endurance of this small cheery flower is astounding. Most of us have memories of them from our childhood - creating a dandelion chain, blowing the clocks or blowballs and making a wish, or being told you would wet the bed if you pick one. They are in fact highly nutritious and revered... for their wide array of medicinal properties, used for centuries to treat a myriad of physical ailments, including cancer, acne, liver disease and digestive disorders. In Greek mythology, Theseus ate dandelions for 30 days to fortify himself to fight the Minotaur, a half man-half bull that ate the young adults of Athens. We believe this knowledge, the stories of our past wrapped up in a lineage of ancestral wisdom, is vital for us to maintain. It doesn’t matter which part of the world you’re from, it is empowering to draw on this knowledge, especially when our health, wellbeing and ‘wealth’ is at stake. You might need to ‘relearn’ it . But being able to forage dandelions safely from your own back garden and reap the benefits (providing they have not been sprayed!) is great for your health & helps you to feel connected to the natural world around us. A FLASHBACK to last summer, after a team beach trip and rock scramble and donning our Ansett swimwear, we came across this gorgeous tree. Abundant with fruit, it’s branches were teaming with fresh riberries. Clearly a wonderful meal for the birds, but also being wasted as so many of them were falling to their mushy doom, and landing on the bonnets of the cars that parked in the carpark... below.
