25.01.2022 We are staying in a caravan park in Somerset, 8 kms west of Burnie. Burnie is a town of around 54 000 people. We love that there are still farms and undeveloped land right on the doorstep. I really love that the penguins are still coming ashore at the town beach. Burnie has many of the big shops such as Coles and Target but also, plenty of boutique shops.

18.01.2022 This is another place that we were told to visit, ever since we arrived in Tassie. It was closed for months but finally, on our third attempt, we got to see what the fuss is about.

18.01.2022 Just a two minute drive 'out of' Arthur River town is the "Edge of the World". It's worth a visit and is set up well for tourists. However, it is certainly not the "Edge of the World". A lovely area but also a good tourist gimmick. with @Trevor Sim @Katrina Nicolson

15.01.2022 Dip Falls is quite amazing! It's an easy 45 min drive from Smithton. A 5 min walk (1 min drive) from the falls is the 'Big Tree'. So incredible.

15.01.2022 The next few posts are more ticks on my bucket list! We did a loop from our base in Smithton to Arthur River and Edge of the World. The locals call the first area (the north side of the loop), the Harcus. It's a beautiful part of Tassie, as I say in every post. As I usually do, there is a map to show you where the various photos were taken.

14.01.2022 The last photos of Burnie. It was a nice place to visit and explore but time to move on.

12.01.2022 Happy anniversary to us - and we are still together after 3.25 years of travelling full-time! Where has the 124 years gone? After a busy morning, we are now relaxing in the caravan sipping sparking. It's finally warm weather at 20c so it's a great day for an anniversary. After all the excitement we'll be asleep early.

11.01.2022 When we left Waratah, it was mentioned in the news as the wettest place in Tassie that day. Trust us! Thankfully we have had a few dry days since then. We are now in Somerset, near Burnie, on the north coast. This was an easy 20 min drive from Burnie.

11.01.2022 Savage River - what a name! It has been on my list ever since I read it on a Tassie map. Many years ago! Today, we drove through it to Corinna. What a road, I was feeling car sick/motion sickness.

11.01.2022 The Tarkine Drive was interesting, something I have been wanting to do 'forever'. I loved it but there were not as many stunning places to explore as I thought there would be. Having said that, I think if you were a hiker there would be more to see. Though, I think you would need 2-3 days to do it justice. My two favourite places were the Trowutta Arch and the Dempster Plains Lookout. I reckon the Milkshake Hills would be a good walk to the lookout. Map of all these places are the last two photos.

10.01.2022 Lake Rowallan is a Hydro Tasmania lake. Apparently, it has excellent bush-based trout fishing, with a stocked population of rainbow and brown trout as well as some native species. So we took lunch and Trev took a couple of rods. It's beautiful in a haunting way.

09.01.2022 Just another day in Tasmania! This goat is just too cute. It was giving little bleats to everyone walking past. Even the locals were amused to see it.

07.01.2022 Guess who I found! Many times, I have walked along the boardwalk in Burnie looking for penguins. There are signs saying penguins are here and I saw penguin footprints. One day I saw movement out the corner of my eye and here she is!

07.01.2022 Tasmanian Devils having a feed. We love the noises they make.

07.01.2022 Somewhere in the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. At an information point pull-over.

04.01.2022 Arthur River is just a small town of no great 'anything'. With a regular population of around 25 (or 57, depending on which website you read), it's a sleepy little place. Certainly worth a look though. Tomorrow we head back there to do a river cruise up the Arthur River, so maybe we will have more photos to show of this place.

04.01.2022 After the Marakoopa Cave of the last post, we drove to Devils Gullet. What an amazing place it is, no sign of human existence (except what I was standing on).

03.01.2022 Third time lucky and we were able to do the Arthur River Cruise. It's a family owned business and the parts of the family we met, were lovely. Third time lucky because it has been flooding. The water comes from near Waratah (if you remember a previous post, where it was so wet). The river actually does flood and the water goes up over the banks. It also brings with it, ancient logs of wood.
