07.01.2022 GRANTS AVAILABLE: Dr Pat Field was awarded $34,884 from the Tropical Australian Academic Health Centre (TAAHC) 2019 Seed Funding Scheme to develop models of cardiac rehabilitation that will improve access for people in rural and remote areas of northern Queensland. In collaboration with health service providers across northern Queensland, we hope to develop models of cardiac rehabilitation that meets the needs of people living in rural and remote areas across northern Queens...land. We want to provide a sound evidence base for health service planners and providers to plan and implement cardiac rehabilitation services that are accessible and improve the quality of life for those living with heart disease across the region, Dr Field said. Data collection for the project is underway, with a recent visit to Hughenden to engage with local communities and health care providers. Visits to Cooktown, Wujal Wujal and Hope Vale are also planned. We are a collaboration between the five hospital and health services in northern Queensland Cairns and Hinterland, Mackay, North West, Torres & Cape and Townsville - the Northern Queensland Primary Health Network and James Cook University, including the Australian Institute of Tropical Health and Medicine. Through an emphasis on translational research, TAAHC aims to embed research into health service delivery to improve quality and efficiency of care, enhance recruitment and retention of professionals in the region and encourage greater investment in the north.
