24.01.2022 Just in from QDN - "The new compulsory Independent Assessment will be the only thing that determines a participant’s NDIS plan and budget. Participants will not be able to provide their own medical reports and will only be asked to consider their goals after the independent assessor has determined their budget. This proposed process is completely at odds with the core principles of the NDIS choice and control. " If you want to give feedback you can fill in the QDN survey and they will use this to develop a submission to the Government about these assessments. Survey is here - https://bit.ly/33zXGrl

22.01.2022 New technology in the form of electronic silicone skin has made it possible to improve prosthetics so people with them can sense pain or danger and avoid damaging their prosthetics. This is pretty cool! Pain sensing fake skin! It also offers an alternative to invasive skin grafts and can make artificial limbs feel more natural. This material also has the ability to response as fast as a real human pain response. You can real more about it here: - https://theconversation.com/pain-sensing-electronic-silicon

15.01.2022 Plan managers can assist with supported decision making. This means we can give you the tools or information you need to make your own decisions about what supports you buy with your NDIS funding. It is NOT the plan manager's role to make this decision for you, so if you have a plan manager that says you can't buy something you need for your disability, come on over to Tropical North Bookkeeping, where we respect your right to decide!

12.01.2022 Did you know that people with a disability have a 3.6 times higher rate of potentially avoidable deaths than the general population!? Suicide was one of the two leading causes of death, with the other being coronary heart disease which potentially could have been delayed/avoided with improved diabetes management. Even more alarming is the fact that mortality rates were highest in people with disabilities who were in residential accomodation support. You can see the Commission's summary here: - https://www.ndiscommission.gov.au/2020-report-mortality-pat?

03.01.2022 How many of you live with a disability and can identify with invasive personal questions about how you acquired your disability? What about statements like feeling sorry for you or how they couldn't do it if it was them in your shoes? Check out this great ABC story on this issue!

03.01.2022 Plan Management: The NDIS pays your plan manager, who will pay your providers for you. Your plan manager must be registered with the NDIS. A registered provider meets the NDIS quality and safety standards. Your other support providers may or may not be registered with NDIS. Your plan manager cannot pay more than the NDIS set price limit in the price guide for specific supports. At Tropical North Bookkeeping we currently have two Plan Managers working to assist our clients - both with lived experience of disability themselves, and being carers for persons with disability. Email us anytime to find out how we can assist with your NDIS plan - [email protected] for LIZ & [email protected] to get directly through to LISA.

03.01.2022 There are some drawbacks to having your NDIS funding plan managed. Here at Tropical North Bookkeeping, we try to turn these drawbacks into advantages! For starters, we strive to pay invoices as PROMPTLY as possible! When we receive invoices, we claim and draw down on the funds usually the next day, and when the funds arrive, we pay your bills for you immediately. This is an advantage as prompt payment of invoices prevents tension over finances between client and provider, maintains goodwill and secures the client's good standing and relationship with their providers.
