04.01.2022 As a Movement Coach I have standards for both my athletes & myself... I put a lot of time & energy into getting my people moving well - freely, naturally, efficiently, safely & intelligently. Much of that comes from putting in the extra hours to truly educate them in the why/how/when of movements & positions, ensuring they understand on a much higher level than that of just being able to perform the movement. I then have a ‘grading’ system if you will, for my coaching, that I... strive for, which has 3 levels. 1: The athlete can perform the desired movement perfectly. 2: The athlete performs the movement perfectly the vast majority of the time, but, on the odd occasion they do not, they themselves can recognize & detect the ‘bad rep’... 3: Vast majority of reps are perfect, very rare ‘bad rep’ is recognized by athlete, AND they are able to correct the issue themselves. When my client/athlete is at level 3, that is when I consider myself to have done my job. While it’s great to have them move well in the controlled gym environment under my supervision, the fact is that might be less than 1% of their total living hours every week, and it’s those other 99% of the hours that injury is likely to potentially occur... So getting my people to that above mentioned level 3 gives them the best possible chance of avoiding any potential real life injury, reducing the severity or recovery time etc It shows me their actual movement habits & patterns have changed, long term... This video is an example of that. Don worked with me for a while up until early 2018, before change in circumstances meant he had to stop... This last week he has come back (after 2.5 years) so I’m reassessing him, seeing where he’s at etc. This was literally his first set of deadlift patterning since 2018 when he stopped, & while there are some very small tweaks/reminders needed to be perfect, his form is very close to being spot on, straight off the bat. This is the perfect example of what I hope to achieve with any of my athletes, why I put so much emphasis on truly educating them & attempting to make permanent change. #coachgoals #deadlift #movebetter #doshitgood #trucapfit #everydayathlete
