25.01.2022 We cant wait to get back to the white sands of Cape Flattery! The drive in and out can be difficult with a deep water crossing and steep, soft sand dunes between the start of the track and the final beach. The challenging drive in and the incredible final location make this such an awesome adventure that is often left out of most peoples #capeyork road trip.
24.01.2022 THE TIP WILL OPEN!!! Minister Craig Crawford has announced that the Northern Peninsular Area will open along side the Cook Shire on the 10th of July. This means travel to the tip of cape York will be allowed! Hope Vale and the Torres Strait have also announced they will open. More news to come tomorrow from other communities.
23.01.2022 The CREB track is officially open!!!
23.01.2022 Off to Lakefield to chase some Barra!
22.01.2022 A review of Cape Yorks current biosecurity lockdown is due on the 18th of June. Hopefully this will give us a roadmap for its reopening. At this stage easing Queenslands travel restrictions indicate state wide travel may be permitted by mid July (I suspect Cape York will be excluded from this travel initially). The QLD premiers comments indicate it may be longer before we can expect interstate travellers to be allowed into QLD. There are some rumours around that Cape Yo...rk will be closed until January 2021. The Cook Shire council has stated that this timeline has not been mentioned to them so I suspect that it is just that. A rumour. I would expect that the loosening of Cape Yorks restriction will be 2-3 months behind the rest QLD so pending everything going as per the states plans we may see travel open in September-October. At the end of the day we will have to wait until June 18th before we know anything concrete. See more
21.01.2022 Whos hanging out for the Creb track to open? Word is its getting very close! The track itself has had a dozer in to repair it and is in reasonable condition, with only the depth of the crossing at the Daintree River stopping it from being opened. Hopefully council can get a machine out to fix the crossing soon
21.01.2022 CREB Track opening!!! The CREB Track will open to traffic again on the 22nd! Welcome news for anyone wanting to add it the their Cape York adventure
20.01.2022 Time for some corrugations...
20.01.2022 The Aboriginal community of Laura has announced it has closed its doors to visitors due to Covid-19. The Information centre and rock art tours are also closed along with the cancelation of the Laura dance festival. Information via ABC FNQ radio
19.01.2022 Who cant wait to get back across the Jardine River and up to the tip?
18.01.2022 The Cape York biosecurity lockdown has been lifted (as of midnight 11/6/2020) but while it may be a relief for locals its not the good news tourists were hoping for... - Tourist travel will not be allowed into Cape York. - Cape York residents will be allowed to leave the area and visit the cairns local area and return without requiring a 14 day isolation. - The Cook Shire Mayor, Peter Scott, has suggested the next expected date for a change in the rules or possibly lifting the lockdown is the 10th of July.
18.01.2022 Lakefield putting on a show!
17.01.2022 Whos had a tyre fail like this? We got lucky with this time... complete sidewall failure at about 80kmph could have easily ended much worse
15.01.2022 Stuck below the high tide mark, with an incoming tide, at the mouth of the jardine... Not our finest moment Lucky we had the #maxtrax packed! We donated an orange one to the beach that day so theres a hidden prize for anyone with a shovel
13.01.2022 Whos been through the mine tunnel at cape flattery? At 2.4m wide and 2.4m high its a pretty tight squeeze for most 4wds.
12.01.2022 Quick stop for a beer and a flick at Hahn crossing is always on our list! Whos stopped through Lakefield on their travels north?
12.01.2022 UPDATE: https://www.facebook.com/212548445909136/posts/817807688716539/ We have been getting a few questions about the whole Cape being closed so we thought the best way to put it into perspective as to where is closed was with a map. Now there is bad news for people who are solely travelling up the cape just to stand at The Tip because, at this stage, anything north of the Jardine River is closed and this area includes the northern most tip of Australia. If you are travell...ing up the Cape to experience the PDR, Old Tele Track, Lions Den Hotel, Frenchmans, Lakefield, Old Coch Road, the CREB Track, Bramwell Station Tourist Park, Cape York, Qld, Moreton Telegraph Station, Hann River Roadhouse, the many pristine waterfalls or the towns along the way then the good news is that, at this point in time, (and as soon as the wet is over) these spots will be as open as per usual. So stay healthy, listen to the latest government advice and enjoy the Cape! See more
10.01.2022 Keen to take a road other than the PDR on your way back from the tip? Take a detour through Lakefield National Park from Musgrave to Laura. You wont be disappointed!
10.01.2022 Whispers are it wont be long until the pdr opens back up! Whos heading straight up there?
09.01.2022 Who knows where this is? Probably one of the most overlooked places to visit up the cape
08.01.2022 Edit: If you are from QLD you will be allowed to travel up to the cook shire as of this noon this Friday the 3rd!!!! Travelers from other states will be allowed when QLD boarders open on the 10th Other councils (eg Lockhart and Northern peninsular area) are expected to make a decision on wether that stay closed to travelers soon. This may mean the tip will stay closed to travelers if NPA decides to stay closed. Edit: updated picture to avoid confusion Hopefully we have updates from the other councils soon.
08.01.2022 Pormpuraaw, Cape York If your looking for somewhere a bit more off the beaten track and away from the crowds then make the trip out to Pormpuraaw Awesome beach camps, great fishing and amazing sunsets! Just make sure you pack the Bushmans...... See more
07.01.2022 Whos taken on Bobs Hill on the CREB track? Weve driven the CREB track quite a few times now and last dry season was the first time we have seen Bobs Hill dry enough to drive up. It was still bloody steep and challenging and shows why there is a permanent detour graded around it.
06.01.2022 Northern Peninsular Area closed Only essential travel in and out. Hopefully these restrictions are able to be lifted before the tourist season starts
06.01.2022 Can not wait to get back out on the tracks. Thinking the CREB could be first on our list! What will be your first post lockdown track?
06.01.2022 5 Beaches drive has a few incredible camp sites along it. Get in early and set up camp, then once the days traffic passes through youll have the place to yourself!
06.01.2022 It was a rough trip up the PDR early last year.. If the cape opens this year it will be a lot different. With no tourist and plenty of time for repairs the PDR will be like a highway
06.01.2022 Sneaky croc hanging around our camp at the mouth of the Jardine River Be croc wise people!
06.01.2022 CREB Track update: The CREB track is in good condition and relatively dry which is to be expected this time of year. The Northern half of the CREB has had fires burning along it for the last 5 or so days and becuse of this several large trees have fallen across it. Some have been cleared and others have had tracks pushed around them. We came accross this recently fallen tree towards the Wujal end of the track and decided clearing it was the best option.
04.01.2022 The Tele track is OPEN!!! Queensland Parks have re-opened the Old Telegraph Track! Despite the track being opened there are still fires burning in the area so take care For up to date information visit... https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/park-alerts/#capeyorkpeninsula See more
03.01.2022 How not to cross Nolans... Always pays to have a snatch strap hooked up before you cross. Hope it didnt end this blokes trip
03.01.2022 The Bend, Coen Located about 6.5 hours drive north of cairns, right next to the PDR, the Bend is an awesome free camp with plenty of sandy open areas, croc free swimming and public toilets. Its not hard to see why its nearly always our first stop over when heading up the cape.
03.01.2022 Captain Billys Landing, Cape York Extremely exposed and windy as hell.. but well worth enduring the elements to explore the caves and see thousands of micro bats fly out at sunset
02.01.2022 Old Telegraph Track CLOSED until further notice!! Bush fires in the area have foced Queensland Parks to close the track until it becomes safe again.
01.01.2022 Cape York Closed! Looks like thats it for non essential access to the entire Cape according to the Cook Shire Councils website. Police will be stationed at various access points to the cape to advise on travel restrictions on all non-essential travel to Cape York and the Torres Strait.
01.01.2022 The CREB track is back open!!! Whos keen to get back up there?
