25.01.2022 : Exercise Variety One of the biggest features you have as a human being is your capacity for movement. Our brains are massive! And they can control the body in some incredible ways. Don't limit your extremely unique abilities to 10% of your potential. ... Our bodies ability to adapt to change is incredibly admirable but heavily underutilized. Creating the perfect posture is created through constantly changing exercise stye and movements, repeating a task or movement to much will strengthen that movement or posture at sacrifice of another. Most gym goers sit within 10% of what their body is capable of, and that 10% is usually your foundational movements that the brain doesn't need to think about therefore working out within a space that doesn't need change. ? Mentioned previously, 'We adapt to change'. But we must not exaggerate that orocess! Without repetition progressive over-load or skill learning can not occur. Which can leave us with half-par results. Some gyms will attempt to sell you on "YOU'LL NEVER REPEAT A WORKOUT!!". When in reality, this sales approach comes down to providing sheer entertainment versus results driven practices. ? There are too many deciding factors to be able to give you an exact or speficic time to change up your workouts. However, what we can provide is a guide. The rule of thumb is to try not to drastically change much inside of a 4 week period and start looking forward to the next stage: at approximiately 12 weeks. Without change, your brain goes into auto-pilot mode and moves within the range of what you have already pre-programmed in your mind. Changing exercise methods, keeps the brain excited, involved and adapting optimally. Looking for ideas to mix up your workouts to avoid plateus? DM us now and we'd love to have a chat!

20.01.2022 #: Effective Warm-up An effective warm-up consists of 3 main points you should consider. The benefits of applying an effective warm-up routine include improved performance, reduced injury risk, faster recovery, and longer training life.... How do you currently view your warm-up? A quick stretch or a light jog on the treadmill? Approach your warm-up with the same intensity and motivation as your actual workout. You must put time aside to improve the way you move to maximize the workout and to keep your body healthy for years into the future. A warm-up should have a plan of attack, a system, just like your workout plan. First, we need to mobilize and relax some bound up joints or muscles using tools like a foam roller or trigger point ball. Once the muscles are relaxed, apply a stretch by pulsing through ranges of motion or contracting muscles are their end range. Muscle activation & stability comes next for the weaker areas, finishing with full-body potentiation drills to fire up the engine within. When planning the content of your warm-up routine, consider the repetitive movements or postures practiced throughout your day. If you have sat in or repeated a task all day eg. office desk seating, you will need to reverse the effects. Subsequently, preparing the body for the movements relevant to the workout. If you want to learn more about structured and effective warm-up protocols or methods DM us now and we'll happily have a chat.
20.01.2022 I'm sure everyone is as excited to be back in the gym as I am! But be careful trying to get back to where you were before the closures. Even though you might have done some exercise while gyms were shut, it's not the same as regular resistance training and right now is a peak time for injures to occur.... DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) has been held as a badge of honour for a long time within the fitness community as a sign of a good workout and fastest route to progressive strength. When in a matter of fact it should only be a sign of change of routine or too much volume. Programming exercise is an art work that finds the indivuals "Goldy Locks" stimulus to the muscle. Just enough stimulus to grow and recover from but not so much it causes excessive soreness that you can't recover from which will most likely cause an injury. Anyone can write a hard workout to beat and bash you to waking up in pain for the rest of the week, it takes a true coach to keep you feeling fresh and at top proformance throughout the whole week while still progressing at an optimal rate. Exercise isn't worth an injury. And training smart doesn't mean your training easy!
19.01.2022 #: SKILL ACQUISITION Taking Skill Acquisition into account is like giving yourself a software update to your GPS. Your brain drives movement and more importantly, the brain WANTS to learn complex movement; otherwise it simply chooses to forget. ' ' !... The brains main job is to control and move the body and navigate our daily activities, in order to retrieve essential needs such as food and water. We move around all day in search mode. As we do so, the brain is reading the input signals sent from outside the body in via the spine. It then, fixes any error codes and sends the signal back out as a movement. If you have poor posture or movement patterns, your brain will 'steal' attention from other parts of the brain to amend the body first. ' ... Your movement patterns are nothing but strings of code the brain gathers and then actions. Over time you have a fatty sheath coating these neutral pathways that deteriorates, eventually forgetting how to perform that movement almost all together. Learning a new movement creates a new pathway, and performing that movement places a sheath coating over it, making it easier to perform next time. Creating a new neural pathway isn't an easy task; often a path of frustration. It's literally a process creating something that wasn't previously there, from scratch. But knowing how to create a new pathway is no different for a movement; versus creating a pathway for anything and everything else in the brain. Just like working out a muscle, creating new and improved neutral pathways can become easier as you continue to practice. If you are looking for a gym that will incorperate skill acquisition in your fitness journey DM us now to learn more.

17.01.2022 Finally getting back to face to face education!! Had a great day today with some Brisbane fitness coaches going through our Movement Restoration Program! These guys are the frontline of shifting the fitness industry towards injury prevention training.
17.01.2022 ... Ever stepped onto one of those BOSU balls and tried balancing on it thinking youll become more stable? Myth... Let me explain Stability is created from the inside out, not from the outside in. So stepping onto a surface that wobbles around excessively and unexpectedly will not make you more stable on a ground that doesnt move at all. The earth doesnt wobble and move underneath you unexpectedly. Itll only make you better at balancing on a BOSU ball. But what does the research say? One study found that power output has been shown to be compromised when performing squats on a BOSU ball. This research tells us that using a BOSU ball in your training program may not only be ineffective, it may even be counter-productive! Balance is task-specific, meaning that superior balance on one task doesn't correlate to balance on a different task. You must practice balance in the specific task you wish to improve it in if you want that balance to translate. Stability or tension creation is one of the most important training focuses people arent doing enough of or doing effectively. People that lack stability to the point it causes pain usually dont know how to create stability/tension themselves and usually need an external weight to force enough tension to be stable. To enhance stability throughout the body you need to be taught brace and tension techniques on a FLAT, HARD and STATIONARY platform or ground. And its more than just breathing in on the easy part of the rep and out on the hard part of the rep. True Technique uses many different techniques to teach people tension and self bracing to create stability throughout the warm ups and workouts. Its hard to perform and do perfectly but when they see it pay off no one argues doing it again. If youre interested in more info or some of these techniques please reach out and message us! We love helping people wherever we can.

13.01.2022 & ? Attempting to get fit without taking the time to care for your joints and correcting movement patterns is like driving a car without ever servicing it, dont wait till you break down to see a mechanic AKA Physio. Thats why at True Technique we have dedicated recovery workouts to make sure you are regularly servicing your vehicle, to make sure your fitness journey can continue wit...h minimal hiccups. Our Prehab workout involves a corrective system to teach you self care with a joint by joint approach. Each week we focus on a different stability and mobility joint partnership. Eg. Tonight we are working through Hips and Lower back, hips being the mobility joint that can cause havoc on the stability the lower back needs if the hips arent working effectively. Our Prehab system we run you through will always start with education, the what, why and how. Followed by the practical system of mobilizing stiff joints, activating weak/inhibited muscles, stabilizing the joint in centration and then strengthening exercises to practice healthy movement patterns for fast, long term results. 10.01.2022 Not all workouts or exercises should be directed to your immediate goals. Some exercises or workouts should be indirectly directed to your goals. Let me explain...... Pattern or skill rehersal is a hugely underated and overlooked focus point within gyms. Performing movements to either correct or improve a pattern will result in an exercise or workout that is directed towards your goal greatly increase. Constantly trying to build strength and fitness on top of your current movement patterns will only get you so far before you get injured or sick of never reaching your goal. Without setting aside time to focus on correcting or improving a particular pattern, you are putting a cap on your potiential that may not get you to the goal you're in the gym for. A huge component of your training in the gym should be HOW you are performing the movement, making sure each joint is up to it's full potiential, making sure you understand when and where to hold tension within a lift or mastering a particular movement pattern. All these commonly missed elements of training will build movement competence to be able to exercise the way you need to in order to achieve what you joined the gym for. Only issue is because it doesn't feel like an exercise that burns huge calories or builds muscle people don't often give enough attention to it. Take the video as an example, i'm practice scapula retraction, a hugely benefical movement to master and strengthen as it has a huge transfer to many bigger and better movements. I'm pairing it with heavy barbell squats and the result from doing heavy squats is what I need to do to achieve my goals. BUT, I realise that if my upper back isn't as tight as I can possibly get it the weight I can squat will be limited. So I practice this retraction of my shoulder blades to indirectly acheive my goals by improving the tension I can hold in a component of my squat. Improving the way I perform a squat directly helps me achive my goals. So take aways are; - Don't think every movement and every exercise should be going hard out to achive your desired goals. - Practicing, correcting and mastering movement patterns will always having a better long term result and outcome. - Spend periods of training focusing on movement quality/technique before progressively testing what was learnt with load, speed or intensity. - As we all know, small things done very well and often result in a very big outcome. Move well first, then move often...
09.01.2022 #: Improve Movement Movement patterns are often an overlooked aspect of our weekly workouts. However, it may be the main reason so many gym goers dance around injuries, every time they hit peak performance. ... Your body is only as strong as it is stable. Lack of stability in a joint or throughout the body, leads to mobility and performance restrictions. To break through long lasting plateaus, you must change and improve your movement quality. So that; as you become stronger and faster, you will also have a body capable of performing at that level. The way you have learnt to move and the way you are currently moving has gotten you this far and will in turn, get you to a measurable gain in strength and fitness. But at an inevitable stage your body won't hold up the way you'd like it to. There will come a time and stage in which your strength, speed or measureable distance will plateau and your movement patterns will no longer be able to perform at a higher rate before reaching breaking point! Immproving the movement quality ensures continual growth with lessor chance of being injured. We all have a point in which our performance levels of any kind, reach a peak and subsequently die off. Fitness is no exception. Years of wear and tear inflicted on joints, connective tissue and muscle will inevidebly, catch up to us. But, most of this wear and tear derives from the practice of uneven loading; as we move through our joints. So, how can we reduce this impact? By improving our movement! By doing so, we learn to practice better technique and to evenly distribute tension. This process enables us to maintain a fit lifestyle for decades to come! If you want to know more about ways you can seek to improve the way you move please DM us now and we'll happily have a chat!
08.01.2022 Achieving your health and fitness goals requires grit and determination. Both of which can be in short supply when you exercise alone. Being part of a team with a common goal can help you push on when the going gets tough and hit your targets sooner than you thought possible. ... By helping each other succeed, you’ll do more than just get fitter; you’ll join together with like-minded people. You’ll find fitness, focus, and friends. Whatever your fitness goals, you’re sure to achieve them sooner with the help of coaches and with workout buddies to spur you on. Shifting weight, increasing cardio, getting an edge: one thing’s for certain we’re better together. So stop thinking about getting healthy and start doing something about it.

06.01.2022 Being one of the most underutilized exercises, the dead hang is one incredibly beneficial exercise. Dead hangs can decompress the spine after heavy squats/deadlift or after a long day in the office chair. The whole upper body stretch of the shoulder, back and arms is incredible and fantastic at restoring overhead mobility.... ?: - Your rotator cuff muscles and tendons are strengthened as a great shoulder prehab exercise. And grip strength is improved immensely which has been proven time and time to be beneficial to your shoulder/neck health and pain. Use it as a warm up, active rest between exercises or as a cool down, dead hangs will have a huge impact on your athletic performance and posture.
06.01.2022 ? Do you commonly experience tension and tightness in your neck, shoulders, and lower back? I hope so! Your experience of that sensation is lying to you...... or at least its misunderstood. Everything you experience, see, smell, touch, taste, and hear is received by nerves and sent back to your brain for processing, rearrangement, and interpretation. Not only do you have those 5 senses, but you also have a sense of balance, proprioception, temperature, pain, time, and even electricity and magnetism! Your brain has two main jobs: interpret the signals it gets from these nerves (your sensory nervous system), respond accordingly via the motor nervous system. These nerves take signals back out to our body and regulate our responsive actions. So for example, when your hand approaches a warm stovetop, your sense of touch will pick up pressure, and your sense of heat will pick up heat. Your brain will decide that is dangerous, and automatically send a signal to the muscles of your hand and arm to move away from the danger. When you feel tension in your neck and shoulders, for example, have a think about the position and activities youve been doing. Have you been sitting down in the car or at a desk all day, with your head slowly drooping further and further forward? The sensory nerves pick up on the stretched state, and sends a signal to your brain, which feels tight. What is the motor nervous system doing at the time? Probably pulling down on the front of the neck, shoulders, into your pecs and down towards your hips, replicating and holding onto the seated position in which youve been all day. Now, of course when your neck and shoulders feel tight, a massage and a stretch feels great, right? What youve done is just reinforced that lengthened position: the sensory nervous system is sensing that the area NEEDS tension, and needs more MOTOR input. You FEEL tightness but its ASKING for tension! If youre feeling tight somewhere, have a think about what youve been doing. Try and find out why that SENSATION is happening, and if theres a related MOTOR pattern contributing to it. You might find more relief by releasing and stretching that area instead.
04.01.2022 Who has inflamed intestines? Think about the typical modern diet of processed crap and take a guess.... And its not usually a conscious recognition of pain, Its the unconscious neuroception you dont feel that gets you!! If you eat food your gut bacteria doesn't agree with it'll create inflammation and makes it next to impossible to contract and brace your core muscles = your back now hurts! If you want to bang out some core work, start with your gut health first.
03.01.2022 . The hardest, and most forgotten element in fitness is our recovery... And it's more than just a rest day...... 03.01.2022 Ive never done this before, or; Ive never stepped foot in a gym in my life. These statements are ironically some of the most common we hear from people. We get it! Visiting a facility filled with strange equipment and completing odd movements with no real understanding of how or why can be extremely daunting. One of the most confronting things youll do is finish your first week. The thing is, right now youre in a comfort zone. You ...know you should be doing SOMETHING, right? But your drive to leave that zone of comfort where its safe and effortless isnt quite strong enough yet. I mean, how bad could it get? Youve come this far The only constant in life is change. Youre not the same person you were yesterday, which means youre constantly moving forward towards SOMETHING. This is something you get to choose. What are you moving towards, and who is the person youre becoming? Are you committed to improving your situation, conquering those challenges, growing through allowable and manageable discomfort? Or are you welcoming old age; welcoming the deterioration that inactivity brings with it? Both situations are uncomfortable, but in one scenario, youre in control and bettering yourself every day. In the other, you have no control but the choice itself. Which path will you choose?
03.01.2022 Here is your sign It is time to start setting some goals and planning how to accomplish them! The lockdown is almost over, the year is half done, we have been given a reset button so lets use this opportunity to propel ourselves to the things in life we truly want for ourselves!... In reflection of this lockdown I have come to the realization that if you wait for that "right time" before you start working towards something great something will always come up and stop you from starting. That "right time" never comes. I have found that the biggest resistance is at the start of any journey. We have all been given a new start and it's time to push aside the little voice offering you the easy way out and tell yourself "the time is right and it's my time now!" What are your focuses for the rest of the year? What are some goals, focuses or achievements you want to knock out?
02.01.2022 & ’ . While people may still think that gaining strength is at a loss to your mobility, we at True Technique believe NOT! 01.01.2022 Emphasis on the glutes seems to be common within the fitness industry, however, can the glutes become inactive? Rarely will a muscle become completely inactive, a muscle can be inhibited by another muscle overpowering it, the muscle just doesn’t know it’s place or action within a movement, or the joint moving isn’t in the ideal position for a certain muscle to be used. Let me explain with a common example.... If you are performing a squat, lunge, or deadlift for glute strength for example, and you don’t set a strong foot arch or you’re wearing a shoe that supports your arch allowing the foot to relax will result in your femur (leg) to internally rotate. With the femur in this inward-facing position, your preferred muscle to extend/stand up will be your adductors, over your glutes. Resulting in the myth:... I have inactive Glutes. So in this very common example, you could do all the Glute activation in the world but without knowing how to set structures in the right place at the right time, your glutes will remain less active during the movement. The coaches at True Technique have a sound knowledge of every movement programmed to guide you through a perfect technique to get the most out of every rep! Train smart at True T!
