To drought-proof northern properties, Western Australias unique groundwater availability presents a genuine opportunity to grow fodder on-farm through centre pivot, sub-surface drip and flood irrigation systems. 14 years ago, there were only 3 pastoral stations with irrigation capability now there are at least 12, with more irrigation projects curre...ntly underway. 21.01.2022 In the last week growers have delivered 1.8 million tonnes to the CBH network, increasing the seasons total to more than 3 million tonnes. Attributed to the warm and dry weather conditions, the increased activity has allowed CBH to open 111 sites, with daily receivals expected to peak over the next few weeks. On Wednesday, November 13 alone, 330,000 tonnes were received by the group, making it the biggest receival day to date.... CBH General Manager of Operations Ben MacNamara reported that approximately half of all receivals have been barley, with just over a quarter of receivals being wheat, however wheat deliveries are also expected to increase in the coming days. A new barley cultivar from plant breeder Intergrain, is set to swell the options for farmers with soil constraints. 09.01.2022 As the coronavirus pandemic spreads and global markets tumble, Australian farmers are experiencing a surge in confidence. A survey by agri-lender Rabobank has indicated one of the largest bounces in farmer confidence in 20 years, with almost half of those surveyed expecting the farm economy to improve over the next 12 months. Tim Hunt, head of research at Rabobank Australia and New Zealand, said recent rains and strong commodity prices had fuelled the optimism. ...
