The session will run for about 15 minutes at 4pm, Thursday April 2. 24.01.2022 Important statement from WBA President, Paul Jones: At the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday 8th December 2019, the WBA membership voted to change our association name change to the Wyndham Basketball Association. This outcome is an exciting opportunity for the future of the association and for basketball throughout the rapidly growing Wyndham area. The WBA is more than basketball, we are an important community organisation.... Wyndham Basketball Association is a name our entire membership can own and call their own. Today, 9 of our 13 affiliated clubs are based in suburbs other than Werribee, and more than 70% of our current players reside in suburbs other than Werribee. These figures are set to increase as the wider Wyndham region grows rapidly. The name will help attract more Wyndham residents to our sport. The Werribee Basketball Association was established in 1972 and we have a long and proud history. We are committed to honouring and enhancing that history and always acknowledging the wonderful contributors that got us to this point. Whilst we are changing our name, we are retaining our traditional colours of gold, royal blue and red and we’ll continue to be known as the ‘WBA’. This is not a change we have taken lightly and has been discussed at great length. Earlier this year, the name proposal was presented to, and supported by, Basketball Victoria. More recently, briefing sessions with our club presidents and WBA life members were conducted, and we were really encouraged by the support and positive feedback. This support was reaffirmed at the AGM. In 2019 an impressive 7238 unique players played in our domestic competitions, we have a record 582 teams competing this season, there were a record 814 participants in Aussie Hoops (3rd highest in Australia), and we reached more than 5000 students through Sporting Schools basketball clinics. As the 2nd largest community sports association in the western suburbs and the largest in Wyndham, changing our name will help to increase our profile as we become a leader in sport in Wyndham, the western suburbs and across the state. Our VJBL Rep teams will complete the 2019/20 season as Werribee, while our Big V teams in 2020 will compete as Wyndham with our junior rep program following suit in 2020/21. We are delighted with this development, and with the support of our membership, we look forward to our entire community embracing our new name, the Wyndham Basketball Association.

24.01.2022 The latest update from Basketball Victoria. Key information: VJBL postponed until at least April 17 Big V postponed until at least April 13 Aussie Hoops suspended until at least April 13... BV highly recommends all organised training to be suspended until further notice And a reminder our junior and senior domestic Summer 19/20 competitions have been cancelled. It was also announced yesterday that Eagle Stadium, Werribee will close from Thursday, March 19 until further notice. At this stage our Winter season is planned to go ahead as scheduled, but as everyone will appreciate, this is subject to change at short notice as the coronavirus situation evolves.

23.01.2022 Latest update from Basketball Victoria regarding return to sport. We’re getting close!

22.01.2022 Wyndham Basketball Association Update Today the State Government announced that the greater Melbourne metropolitan region (including all of Wyndham) will recommence Stage 3 lockdowns as of midnight, July 8 (Wednesday night) for 6 weeks. Unfortunately this means all WBA programs, training and competition will cease immediately, for at least the length of the lockdown. All WBA activities WILL NOT run during this 6 week lockdown period.... As soon as decisions are made on return dates for our domestic competitions, programs and training, we will let you and our entire community know. The club will provide a further update for those families that have already registered for the winter season.

22.01.2022 Summer Season Cancelled Wyndham Basketball is cancelling all basketball operations indefinitely as a precaution against COVID-19 (Coronavirus), based on medical advice from Australia’s Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy and Basketball Victoria. All scheduled junior and senior domestic fixtures will be cancelled until at least March 30th. ... This means there will be NO FINALS series for the Summer 19/20 season. We understand the gravity of this unprecedented decision, but we are living in unprecedented times. The WBA’s number one priority is the health and safety of our community and we make no apologies for not compromising on this. All basketball development programs have also been cancelled, including Aussie Hoops, Hoops Academy, DDP, Devils Edge and The WEST until governing health and sport bodies deem it safe to proceed. Big V and VJBL have been cancelled for the weekend of March 14/15, and we will follow instructions from the leagues regarding future rounds. Training for these programs is also cancelled until further notice. Our Rep Prep Online Sessions are FREE and the perfect way to gear up both mentally and physically as we edge closer to returning to the court. The training sessions will be using Zoom communications and will run for 45 minutes. The session will feature 3 coaches from across the associations each week and are open to all existing VJBL players and any aspiring players hoping to tryout and make a team for the upcoming season. 17.01.2022 WBA UPDATE Summer Season: The final regular season round has been treated as a washout (3 points to both teams).... For junior domestic, the teams sitting on top of the ladder after the regular season will receive the champions medals and teams that finished second will receive the runners up medals. In competitions with 2 grades, the teams that finished 5th will be winners of the second grade and 6th will also be runners up. Winter Season: The next task is to assess how the Winter 20 domestic season will be affected. At this stage the season is postponed until the Victorian State of Emergency has ended, the social distancing rules are relaxed and Eagle Stadium is reopened. Unfortunately, as you can appreciate, we have no clear indication on when this will be, but once these have happened, we are aiming to restart the competition within 2 weeks. We will be letting everyone know via email and our social media channels as soon as we have any firm dates on this. Full WBA statement below.
