22.01.2022 Week 5 - Butterflies and Remembrance Day During this week we followed on from the story of the very hungry caterpillar and studied butterflies. During group times we discussed everything butterflies, how they live, what they eat and drink, their wings, their patterns etc. The children thought it was very interesting to learn that butterflies only eat nectar off flowers. During one group session all the children were asked, if you were a butterfly what colour would you be?. Wh...ile outside the children looked for butterflies. We learnt that butterflies are attracted to bright colours so to follow on we will be creating a fairy garden with lots of colourful flowers. The children created a butterfly print using forks to paint and then folding their paper in half to create a beautiful unique print. This activity allowed for creativity expression, colour recognition and fine motor skills. On Monday the 11th we took part in the one minute silence to remember those who gave their lives for us many years ago. The children sat quietly on the mat for one minute. The children painted cardboard green and added some red cupcake paper to make a field of poppies poster. School readiness ABC READING EGGS the letter and sound Gg. Following on from a question during the week if you were a butterfly what colour would you be?, the 3-5 year olds coloured in their very own butterfly to resemble their own personality. They then cut it out and stuck it to a paddle-pop stick to make their butterfly fly. We ended the week with a game of musical chairs and drop dead fish.

This dice game allowed the children to copy numbers in dot form or number form and it also gave the children an insight to addition by adding dots together on 2 dice. Great week had by all!

15.01.2022 Term 4 Week 3 - Halloween This week our focus area was Halloween. We have decorated our deck in black paint, spiders, ghost, bats and spider webs, all to enhance our vivid imaginations and creativity. We created our own ghost and spiders in art and craft using the following - spiders black circle paper, pipe cleaners and sticky tape, ghosts foam cups, tissues and glue. These creations were added to our deck area. We have coloured in some bats and Halloween colourings. Childr...en have been imagining themselves as zombies and ghosts while on the deck. Our story of the week was some things are scary, following on from this story we all had to name something we felt scared of. Being scared is a feeling and some children even said ways in which you can make yourself not feel scared. School readiness this week we completed the letter and sound Qq, we also created an alphabet window display in our big school room. All the letters were placed in the circle and children had to sing the alphabet. As they sung they added a new letter to the window. All children took in turns and are very aware of their ABCs and putting them in order. We played a jellybean guessing game, children had to close their eyes and place a jellybean in their mouth and tried to guess what colour they were eating. We had some very clever taste buds but we also had some very sneaky eyes. This game emphasised colour recognition as well as using our taste sense. Today we got a load of sand delivered to the centre. The children thought it was great to watch. The sand will be put into the sandpit over the weekend. See more
