24.01.2022 On our way home from Cape Hillsborough yesterday we saw this poor lonely calf sitting on the side of the road. We noticed 3 birds of prey circling above eyeing it off. It was so skinny and still had the umbilical cord attched. We got out to check on it and encourage it away from the road. The kids wanted to put it in the car to take home We tried to let a farmer know about it, but unfortunately no one was home, which upset the kids. Sadly the circle of life can be harsh.... . . #trundlewithus #getoutdoors #outandabout #farmlife #calf #circleoflife #cowsofinstagram #capehillsborough #myweekofonlyone #animalsofinstagram See more
24.01.2022 Hay Point, Mackay Yesterday we did a drive out to explore Hay Point. Although it is quite an industrial area, the kids really enjoyed seeing how the coal port worked. It was extremely windy, so the beach wasn't too inviting, however there were quite a few high rated Geocaches around to find. ... #haypoint #geocaching #exploremackay #visitmackay #getoutdoors
23.01.2022 Travel Tip: Ask A Local Yesterday we had an awesome day out four wheel driving with some friends in the Eungella region. Unfortunately we can't tell you exactly where, as the locals want to keep it a bit of a secret. Their biggest fear is that people will go down and trash the place, and ruin the track. It's also a narrow track with some steep ridges which would make passing a bit sketchy. We had to do a little bit of track maintenance to get through, but that was all... part of the fun. So, our first tip is: chat to the locals and be amazed by some of the beauties you can find. This place is up there with one of our favourites around Mackay. Next time we will definitely need to camp and make a weekend of it!! Tip 2: Respect the places you visit, and leave only footprints so others can enjoy the beauty too. #visitmackay #mackaypride #visitqueensland #tropicalnorthqueensland #TNQ #4wd #4x4 #travelblog
22.01.2022 The kids have been loving being back home and making cubbies. They have been begging to sleep in it tonight, but sleepovers in their rooms will have to do! . . 22.01.2022 Holiday planning in progress!! Since selling our camper our brains have been ticking away trying to process our new way of camping. . . We want to do a short trial run these holidays with our swags and nut out what works and what doesn't. Trying to fit 6 people's worth of stuff is going to be a challenge, but we want to try and keep it as simple as possible. The less we have to fuss over the better!!... . . We are looking for some free/cheap beach camping within 500km from Mackay. That roughly puts us between 1770 and Cardwell. 22.01.2022 "Mum, the rooster's broken!!" We tried to pass our Mr. Target on as he has been getting a bit louder in the mornings. Someone suggested we try a collar on him to see if it helps. We bought a "No Crow" collar online and have been pretty pleased with how well it works. He still crows, however it is a lot more muffled, and he doesn't seem to do it as much. This was Target getting used to his collar! Let's hope it lasts & we don't have to get rid of him . . #trundlewithus #nocrow #roostercollar #backyardchooks #silkiesofinstagram #silkiechicken #silkierooster #roostersofinstagram #rooster #mumlife #backtonature #petsofinstagram #pets #silkies
22.01.2022 We finally made it home safely last night, much to our relief. It wasn't without it's dramas though! The night before we were due to leave we had cops knock on our cabin door questioning where we had been and whether we were a threat to society. We were told to isolate in our cabin until further notice. We were all pretty shaken up by the whole ordeal, but thankfully were given the all clear the following day! We are definitely living in different times. . .... #trundlewithus #ontheroadagain #covidlife #reallife #drama #personalblogger #travelblog #mumlife #dadlife #bigfamilies #roadtripping #familytime See more
21.01.2022 How gorgeous is Nine Mile Beach at Byfield National Park? This was the view we came to after having a bit of fun four wheel driving up the big sand dunes. We enjoyed a late picnic down on the beach along a beautiful creek. . . 20.01.2022 ~ Collie Farm, Miriam Vale ~ Last night we found a great camp spot at Collie Farm just south of Miriam Vale, thanks to WikiCamps. It cost us $10 an adult and $5 for our kids over 6. It's a lovely quiet farm with a variety of spaces to camp. A clean toilet is available, however you need to be self-sufficient with water.... The owners were extremely friendly, as well as their two pet dogs who regularly came over to say hi. Collie Farm is also only 40 minutes from 1770 or roughly 30 minutes to Agnes Water. #trundlewithus #getoutdoors #lowcostcamp #camping #travelaustralia #visitqueensland #colliefarm #roadtripping
20.01.2022 ~ Captain's Crossing, Mackay ~ If you're after a beautiful place to spend the day, or a few nights, then look no further! The fresh, clear water at Captain's Crossing is perfect for cooling off in, or floating down stream on a raft. There are plenty of shady spots to set up free camp or a picnic for the day. This place is roughly 1.5hrs West of Mackay, and a fwd is highly recommended, especially if there has been a bit of rain. There are no toilets or drinking water, so i...f you're planning on camping, you need to come prepared, and take all rubbish with you. For those after a bit of fun doing some four wheel driving, then you can keep driving past the creek along some rough tracks. Some of these would be quite challenging or impassable in the wet due to all the wash outs. #trundlewithus #getoutdoors #4x4 #4wd #travelblog #freecamp #fourwheeldriving #adventuretime #captainscrossing #visitmackay #letsdosomething #thegreatoutdoors #mackay

18.01.2022 As we watched the sun set on the year 2020, we were reminded again that times are changing. . . With the latest border restrictions, we have family needing to make last minute plans to get out of NSW. The stress of not knowing if Qld will follow suit is hanging over us like a dark cloud, however we are trying to make the most of each day we have with family. .... . This year we have learnt that life can change in the blink of an eye. With the loss of our pets, a cancer diagnosis, deep brain stimulation surgery, learning from home, new life - just to name a few. This year we have also learnt to trust in God so much more and have seen how He has worked in amazing ways despite all the chaos going on around us. . . As we go in to the new year, it is our prayer that you may find peace amongst the storm, that families may stand united, that we can share more love and kindness, and look for the positives in life that bring us joy! . . 15.01.2022 Last night I surprised Dale with a kid free night out (thanks Jodey!!), our first in about a year!! With 4 kids it's easy to get so busy and caught up looking after them, that taking time out for us can get put to the side. Enjoying a meal that we didn't have to prepare, eating in peace, and enjoying uninterrupted conversation was a bit of a novelty...although, we did miss the kids . So here's a random story to add to all our sagas...... Just before midnight last night we were (well, I was - I had to wake Dale up!) startled awake by loud banging at our front door and bedroom window. There was loud talking and torches shining at our window. The adrenaline was pumping as we tried to work out what could be going on! Dale got up to answer the door to find 2 cops at our front door!! Their dispatch said that someone had been shot at our address!! - Nope, sorry, not here! Needless to say, it was a bit difficult to get back to sleep after that...
15.01.2022 Giving the big boys their dose of four wheel driving for Father's Day! 15.01.2022 Some days you just need an excuse to stay home and hang out! That didn't stop Dale though who braved the heavy rain to do his 9km run so he could have a clear head to finish his final masters assignment! Yew!! We enjoyed some board games - Sequence & Carcasone being some of our favourites; educated the kids with Home Alone 1, followed by some gingerbread baking!!... What are some of your favourite family-friendly rainy day activities??!!
15.01.2022 ~ Mackay Marina ~ If you're after a place to relax and watch the sunset, or entertain the kids with the big ships coming in, then the Marina breakwall is the place to be. We usually like to grab some fish & chips from the Lighthouse Cafe, however they are closed at the moment while doing kitchen renovations. We found this out after accidentally calling and ordering chips in Port Macquarie . So, Vella's chips were our next closest option - highly reccomend them!!... #visitmackay #letsdosomething #mackaymarina #getoutdoors
13.01.2022 ~ Ballantyne's Strawberry Farm, Mackay ~ If you're after something fun to do with the family, then head out of town to Ballantyne's strawberry farm in Calen. Our kids had a blast hunting for the perfect berries to fill their punets as well as playing hide and seek among the golden giants. Make sure you take some extra cash to indulge in some homemade strawberry icecream, or decadent chocolate brownies! It costs $10 per punet which you can fill to the brim.... If you want to make a whole day's outing, then take a picnic with you and head around to Cameron's Pocket to relax by the water. Be prepared for a few crowds in the morning though, especially on the weekend! #visitmackay #mackaypride #visitqueensland #tropicalnorthqueensland #TNQ #strawberrypicking #cameronspocket
12.01.2022 ~ Blue Water Trail, Mackay ~ Yesterday we enjoyed a stroll down the Cathy Freeman walk along the Blue Water Trail. Dale and the kids had fun looking for geocaches (which were placed about every 200m), with no luck, however we did manage to spot a cute little echidna which was desperate to hide from us. The trail is roughly 21kms long (if not more), so is the perfect place to take the bikes for a spin. It meanders along the Pioneer River down through the botanical gardens, an...d through parts of town. #visitmackay #mackaypride #visitqueensland #tropicalnorthqueensland #bluewatertrail #getoutdoors #thegreatoutdoors
11.01.2022 A sad day for us as we said goodbye to our much loved Jayco Swan The opportunity came to us, and we felt this was the best decision. We have had 5 awesome years of adventures from the bottom of Tassie all the way up to Cook Town, and so many places in between. We had a 5, 3, and 1 year old when we first started, and it was the best thing for our family. . . We're not sure what our camping adventures will look like yet, but ultimately we are going to be saving hard for ou...r dream caravan (we think)! . . 11.01.2022 Back on the road again, and safely back in our home state! We can now breath a sigh of relief that the borders didn't close. The kids are all eager to get home (still another 1000km away), so we're still deciding which way to get home. So many options! 09.01.2022 2.5 weeks until school holidays and we are hanging out for more warm days by the beach! The SWAG DEBATE - we'd love to hear all the pros & cons from those of you who have used swags, especially with kids! Do you think we can manage with 4 kids, or is there way too much set up/pack up involved? .... . We'd like to think we can make it work, especially as the kids are getting older & becoming more independent, but we'd love to hear from the experienced!! 08.01.2022 Happy Father's day to all those awesome Dad's, Grandfather's, and Uncle's out there! We are truly blessed to be surrounded by strong, Godly leaders in our family. We are thankful for all the amazing adventures we get to go on, and the man who leads our home and puts family first. Wayne and Murray, thanks for being such awsome role models.
05.01.2022 ~ Kershaw Gardens, Rockhampton If ever you are passing through Rockhampton, make sure you stop at Kershaw Gardens to let the kids have a good stretch of the legs. There is an awesome climbing web with tunnels and slides, flying foxes, a peddle train, a big water-play area, and so much more!!... There are a lot of tables or shadey spots for the perfect picnic, or bring the kids bikes to ride around the park. Clean toilets and outdoor showers are available, as well as plenty of parking. There is limited trailer parking in the main parking lot. #trundlewithus #visitrockhampton #visitqueensland #thegreatoutdoors #letsdosomething #playground #reststop #kershaw #kershawgardens #rockhampton
04.01.2022 If you're in Coles make sure you pick up their FREE Spring Health & Beauty magazine. 04.01.2022 ~ Wheel of Fire, Finch Hatton Gorge ~ Yesterday while I stayed home to get over my flu, Dale took the big kids up to Finch Hatton for a friends baptism. It is such a beautiful part of the country to explore. Whenever we have anyone visit us, this is one of the top places on our list to go! This was a first for them to head to the top waterfall - Wheel of Fire. Usually we only head to the lower one as it's an easier/shorter walk. ... Dale enjoyed this area as it seemed to have a bigger waterhole, although there aren't as many big rocks to jump off! It's probably also less popular due to the longer walk. #finchhattongorge #exploremackay #wheeloffire #thegreatoutdoors #getoutdoors #visitqueensland
04.01.2022 Loving the open spaces and sunsets on the property! The big boys had a bit of fun the other day building their own box cart which has been a lot of fun down the hill. 01.01.2022 Blue Water Trail, Sandfly Creek Walk, Mackay Yesterday we went out to explore another section of the Blue Water Trail. We started at the boat ramp near the fish market along Pioneer River, and stopped to turn around at Town Beach. That stretch was about 5km return, which was enough for the kids on their scooters. If you're into Geocaching, there are a few to be found along the way!... There are clean toilets at the start of the walk, and various benches to stop at along the way. Just be aware that dogs are not allowed between 1 October - 1 April due to birds breeding. #bluewatertrail #sandflycreekwalk #visitmackay #mackaypride #mymackay #letsdosomething #fitkids #10000steps
