24.01.2022 Welcome aboard Peter! Support Coordination is like being the oil in an engine. When the oil is doing its job, every part works smoothly, but when the oil doesn’t do its job everything comes to a dangerous stop! Actually, being a Support Coordinator is less dramatic, but it does illustrate the importance of the role. So how and why does an ex-kindergarten teacher become a Support coordinator? ... The honest answer is, by chance and by living a working life based on a strong sense of social justice! From teaching 4-8 year-olds in the UK, to working as a Support Worker, to 18-months as a Support Coordinator for @FlourishAus, I now find myself at Trusted Support Coordination. Being part of the Trusted Support Coordination team is like being a small cog which has been placed into a well-oiled machine. The team are legends! They support their colleagues, give advice and provide training. Support Coordination is a challenge, working with the NDIS can be a challenge too, but when you are able to improve the life of a participant, even in a small way, it is very rewarding. 22.01.2022 We have recently welcomed Ashvina to the Trusted Support Coordination team in Melbourne. Ashvina started work in the sector, to follow her passion of helping others, celebrating and facilitating diversity and inclusion. Prior to starting her career as a Support Coordinator, worked as a Support Worker, supporting participants with community engagement. Ashvina has completed a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences at Deakin University, majoring in Disability, Inclusion and Famil...y and Society Health. Ashvina’s areas of knowledge and interest lie within community engagement, health promotion and working with youth age participants. Ashvina is a former competitive hip-hop dancer, who has also trained in many styles of dance. Ashvina loves to cook, volunteer in her community and learn new things. As a Support Coordinator, you will be responsible for working with participants and their families to get the most out of their NDIS plan. 12.01.2022 Kenneth doesn't want to leave the SIL residence! "I started assisting Kenneth as his Support Coordinator 12-months ago and his wish has always been to move out of the aged care facility where he has lived for 15 years and into a home of his own. This has always been his NDIS National Disability Insurance Scheme goal. Kenneth had the opportunity to move into a property in Merimbula at the beginning of the year, but the space and area were small, so he opted to wait for a more ...suitable property. Earlier this year, The Disability Trust purchased a lovely big home in Tura Beach. Kenneth was initially cautious about the move after being cared for in an aged care facility for 15 years! Kenneth has trialled the home, where he is now staying. He does not want to go back to the aged care facility, so his stay has been extended until the SIL quote is approved. Kenneth enjoys walking around the gardens and cooking the barbeque with his new found freedom. He enjoys playing his guitar and singing along with one of the other participants in the house." 02.01.2022 Great insights from new Support Coordinator Johnson. "From the interview I could see that these guys were going to be supportive and they walk the talk. I am going to do my best to make sure the team succeeds and gets to where they need to. I've learnt a lot about budgeting and audits, but I know it all pretty well now. The amount of help I've gotten is amazing. In other workplaces, they leave it to yourself and watch you from a distance. I'm really happy I got this job. I pu...t down what I need to do for the week, because it's important to have a system and you get the help when you need it. Lots of team members have me advice and guidance to manage the work. I've been a disability support worker and a care manager before, so I know how it's supposed to happen and what is expected. As a support worker you are providing care based on what you are told. In this role, you've got an eagle eye view of what's supposed to happen. It's great. It's revealing. Being a support worker, you don't always know how it all works with the NDIS National Disability Insurance Scheme so I now have been able to go to meetings and use the portal and you can impact lives more by doing this job."
