24.01.2022 After yesterdays cleanout, fitted new pneumatic pumps to temporary 205L drums while we wait for delivery of new tanks. already looks so much neater.

21.01.2022 Yesterday at Progressive Auto Care saw our new oil storage tanks arrive. What a difference the area looks neat and professional now. Also our waste oil tank looks nice a clean with a new coat of paint, to match the new oil tanks. Overall a great change to the workshop

21.01.2022 At Progressive Auto Care we are seeing an increasing trend, of families owning multiple vehicles. This, in turn, leads to all of these vehicles doing less overall Km per year. Please take note of the pictures below. This timing belt was NOT due by km but had gone years over its time limit. This customer was extremely lucky there was no major damage. An update to this post ... Here is another example or age degradation to a timing belt. This vehicle was 10 years old but had only done 70000km. The belt was due at 6 years or 120000km. There is little chance this belt would last another 50000km See more

14.01.2022 Take a look inside a beautifully crafted 3D printed Toyota inline four-cylinder engine! And learn about how engines work while youre at it! What is an inline ...four cylinder? What are the advantages of an inline engine? Four cylinder engines are great compact engines, which can fit in many engine bays, are easy to work on, and have balanced primary forces. The secondary forces of I4 engines are not balanced, however, reducing the overall size they can get to without the use of balancing shafts. Also, I4s have a high center of gravity. One of the interesting things about inline four cylinders is why the pairs of cylinders move in the way that they do, with the inner two pistons moving up and down together, as well as the outer two pistons moving up and down, opposite the inner cylinders. Now part of the reason this is done is because for an even firing interval, you want to fire every 180 degrees, so you need at least one cylinder at top dead center for every 180 degrees of crankshaft rotation. But this flat-plane crankshaft is chose to keep the engine balanced and minimize vibration. You can see that for first order forces, the pistons moving up and down opposite one another balance each other out. That said, for secondary forces, the forces do not balance out, as they point upward at both top dead center, and bottom dead center. This tends to limit the size of inline four cylinder engines, because as they get larger and rev higher, they tend to vibrate more. This can be countered using balancing shafts, but that means a more complex engine design.

12.01.2022 How healthy is your car air-conditioning system. Does it have a smell when you first turn it on. This can be caused by a build up of bacteria within the system. Or a build up in the pollen filter. The picture below shows the difference between a new filter and one 2 years old.

Here is an example of what can happen to an engine when it has been without a service for a prolonged period. As a result of this lack of maintenance, we have just fitted a second-hand engine. This car came in for a minor service and complaints about the brakes being soft and noisy. These brakes were extremely dangerous and this car should not have been on the road. Please make sure that your car is safe to drive by getting your car serviced regularly
