25.01.2022 Like Martin, we all experience a range of emotions every single day. Some are big, some are small, some can be positive, some can be negative. When we are able... to label our emotions, which is practising our emotional literacy, we are able to: 1. Reduce the impact of the negative emotions we experience, and 2. Actively shift towards positive emotions which are critical to our overall mental health.
25.01.2022 We are getting excited about getting to know our 2021 Prep children and their families next term. We are not sure whether our transition will be allowed to be o...nsite, however we have plans to conduct engaging transition sessions whether onsite or off. The dates below will stand for either scenario. If you are yet to enrol, please contact us as soon as possible so that you don't miss out on being part of our great learning community. See more

22.01.2022 Hi On The Hill lovers! Unfortunately this year we are unable to have a proper festival. However, we still want to celebrate what makes Panton Hill so special. T...his year, from the 18th to the 25th of October we are going to relive some of our past festival's through installations around the town centre. To make this possible, we need your help. If you live in Panton Hill; are part of a community group; a regular stall holder or performer; or just love our town, we would like you involved! This means making a scarecrow who can be part of the installations. We want to encourage the use of recycled and repurposed material to reduce our impact. These will need to be delivered to the church building on the weekend before (10-11/10). From here our committee will be able set them up ready for the 18th of October. Make sure you follow the On The Hill Festival facebook page to stay updated. If you have any questions, queries or want to help out in any way, feel free to contact us through the facebook page. 20.01.2022 One of the delights of working in a school is having the chance to share stories - and at this time of year we would normally have had the opportunity to share ...stories with our local three and four year olds at our Storytime sessions and of course our newest PHPS members, our 2021 preps. But we're not going to let a global pandemic stop us! Our story loving staff have all recorded themselves reading a favourite story and we will share them with you over the next few weeks. We thought this might be a good opportunity for our newest members to start getting to know us just a little more. We are starting with Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge, written by Mem Fox, Illustrated by Julie Vivas and read here by our school principal, Kylie Richards. We hope you enjoy. All of the staff stories can also be found on our school website. See more

15.01.2022 This explanation is so good. Self regulation takes ages to master....and it is a gradual thing that develops with endless co-regulation by someone safe who loves us.
14.01.2022 Child - "How old are you, Grandpa?" Grandpa - "I'm 81, dear." Child - "So does that mean you were alive during the Coronavirus?" Grandpa - "Yes, I was." Child -... "Wow. That must have been horrible, Grandpa. We were learning about that at school this week. They told us about how all the schools had closed. And mums and dads couldn't go to work so didn't have as much money to do nice things. They said that you weren't allowed to go and visit your friends and family and couldn't go out anywhere. They told us that the shops ran out of lots of things so you didn't have much bread, and flour, and toilet rolls. They said that Easter holidays were cancelled. And they told us about all those thousands of people that got very sick and who died. They explained how hard all the doctors and nurses and all essential workers worked, and that lots of them died, too. That must have been so horrible, grandpa!" Grandpa - "Yes, that is all correct, but I was just a kid back then. But to tell you the truth I remember it differently... I remember playing in the garden for hours with mum and dad and having picnics outside and lots of bbqs. I remember making things with my Dad and baking with my Mum. I remember learning how to do hand stands and back flips. I remember having quality time with my family, even when they were being my teachers. I remember Mum's favorite words becoming 'Hey, I've got an idea...' Rather than 'Maybe later or tomorrow I'm a bit busy'. I remember making our own bread and pastry, growing our own vegies and having fresh eggs from our new chooks. I remember having movie night three or four times a week instead of just one. I remember we got to put our Christmas lights up in the middle of the year, just because we wanted to. It was a horrible time for lots of people you are right. But I remember it differently." Remember how our children will remember these times. Be in control of the memories they are creating right now, so that despite all the awful headlines and emotional stories they will come to read in their future years, they can only actually remember the happy times. 14.01.2022 "We don't do rehab for our minds, but we do rehab for our bodies..." Often regarded as one of the more difficult principles of GEM (gratitude, empathy and mindf...ulness), practising mindfulness allows our mind to take stock and be present. What are some of Martin's tips for practising mindfulness? Try: - Colouring-in - Puzzles - Origami - Meditation (try some apps!) - Yoga - Flow states

12.01.2022 It is so important that children's voices are captured as part of this pandemic and for historical records. https://thesector.com.au//dear-australia-project-offers-c/ As a result of this momentous time in history, Australia Post believes it is important to record the thoughts of those experiencing significant change. To support the recording of this thinking, Australia Post has created a national letterbox where, from now until 18 August, anyone participating can write a le...tter to share their experience of the COVID-19 pandemic. The letters will then be curated by the National Archives, with eligible letters being kept for future generations, allowing all Australians to record their impressions of this remarkable time.

09.01.2022 Nurture, nurture, nurture. How do we do that? We validate what our child is feeling (something more than "I can tell you're angry, but . . . " which doesn't re...ally validate); we let them tell their story; we comfort; we offer help and support, and a safe haven to help them when they’re feeling internally chaotic and reactive. In a quiet comforting voice with an empathic facial expression and nurturing body posture, then, you might say something like, "You're having a hard time right now. I’m here with you. Or you can ask gently, What do you need? How can I help you? Or, What can we do to calm down?" Or you can just say, I will help you. This empathetic response does not reinforce negative behavior. That’s a common fear, but it's a misunderstanding of how behavior works. What you’re doing is reinforcing that you are a safe, predictable person who will help them when they need help. And, with your help in calming down, they’re practicing how to shift from reactivity to calm regulation so that their brain and body learn how to do that for themselves. So just like we’d comfort our child (and not blame them) when they’re physically suffering, we want to comfort them (and not blame them) when they’re emotionally suffering. Once they’re back in control of their own emotions (without us trying to control them), then we can effectively talk with them about their behavior. #teachingTheWholeBrainChild #childdevelopment #TinaPayneBryson #books #authorsofIG #discipline #parentingtips #goodparenting #peacefulparenting #gentleparenting #wholebrainparenting respectfulparenting #childtherapy #childrensmentalhealth #psychotherapy #childtherapist #mindfulness #wellbeing #childmentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentallyhealthy #CultivatingResilience #upstairsbrain #downstairsbrain #ipnb #ParentalPresence #communication #ThePowerOfShowingUp #healthyconnection #stayingconnected #connecting
07.01.2022 Over the last three years, The Resilience Project commissioned an independent evaluation with The University of Melbourne so we could: 1. better understand the ...impact of our school partnership program and curriculum, and 2. identify the ways we could improve it. 06.01.2022 Wise words from Brené Brown. "There is immeasurable power in our children watching us practice self-kindness vs. berating ourselves or putting ourselves down when we stumble, fail, or make mistakes. And, no matter how we encourage them to talk to themselves, they are definitely watching to see what really matters."
