25.01.2022 Evening All, Unfortunately due to a multitude of different reasons I will be closing the shop this Friday at 6:30pm. The kitchen will be closed from 5:45pm. I am sorry for the inconvenience this may cause but we will be back on board as normal Saturday morning 7am and will be closing at our normal winter time of 7:30pm. ... THIS IS ONLY FOR THIS COMING FRIDAY Just a reminder to everyone, we are currently operating under our winter hours of the following: Monday 6am - 7:30pm Tuesday 6am - 2pm Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 6am - 7:30pm (except this Friday 24th July we will closing at 6:30pm) Saturday 7am - 7:30pm and Sunday 9am - 7:30pm. This is a HUGE shout out to some of our local kids Eva, Layla, Dan and Lucas for their AMAZING work in donating $38.15 to our local wildlife shelter selling home made cupcakes, books, succulents and lucky dips. 17.01.2022 Hands up if you love books???? Well it all started with a suggestion from one of our locals Krissy to take the books outside due to at the time having limited numbers in the store. And so our Community Book Exchange was born and is now starting to come together and grow! ... With the support and help from the Gordon family donating our new cabinet, to Lachie removing the old display boards, making me a new one, and putting up our new cafe blinds, to Logan finding me our new cafe blinds, (still 1 more on the way) to Mac who dedicates his time to come and tidy up, and to all those who have donated already, our lil book nook will soon be a cozy and accessible space for anyone to enjoy. Please remember, we are after good quality books that have been wiped down before being dropped off. Lets enjoy our community swapping stories through these pages, but lets stay safe while doing it. With the new government directive for Regional Victoria for mask wearing to prevent the spread of Covid-19 we wanted to let you know how things will look for us at #thegeneral.... Do I need to wear a mask to come into the shop? Yes it will be a requirement of entry to the shop for you to be wearing a mask from Monday 3 August. What if I have an exemption from wearing a mask? We are still able to help you in a contactless way without you having to come into the shop. Please call ahead on 5195 5133 and have a chat. What if I dont have a mask? We have a limited number of disposable masks if you are caught short as we all adjust to this new normal. Unfortunately, we will only be able to offer one per person for their first visit, after that we ask that you source your own. Do children have to wear masks in the shop? No, as per the government directive, children 12 and under are not required to wear masks in the shop. Is there still a limit of customer numbers in the shop? Yes, and we now have a new limit of 4 customers in the shop. Can we still come in a sit and have a coffee? Wearing a mask and drinking coffee is a challenge, so for this reason we have decided to close our cafe area BUT we will still be serving our delicious coffee takeaway! Can we buy masks at the shop? Yes, we will be stocking fabric re-usable and washable masks as we have them available. Please call 5195 5133 to see what we have in stock as it will be changing from day to day. 04.01.2022 Remember we are doing the best we can....... With the post being as crazy as ever and today receiving a 2nd car load, I am going to say this in the nicest way possible. We are a "general" store, not Australia Post. If you come in and your mails not ready, its not because we are drinking coffee (even tho we have great coffee!) or sitting down chatting, we could be:... Serving, Cooking Stocking Ordering Making coffee Answering phones Scanning Preping school lunches.....I could go on. I dont like hearing from my staff that they are being huffed at, or spoken to rudely because a customers mail is not ready for collection. This shop has a number of duties and with the amount of parcels we are receiving daily at present makes it very hard to get to all of them first thing. I hope you understand and just to remind everyone, parcels are to be collected after 2pm daily, except Tuesdays. We will try and have your parcel ready as soon as possible due to closing at 2pm. Im sorry to be the "grumpy shop owner" but its happening more and more frequently that we are getting spoken down too regarding the post. This is our work place and please help make it an enjoyable one for us to come too everyday by understanding. Vent over...... #TheGeneral
