09.01.2022 Congratulations to Yuin man Lloyd Hornsby, on becoming an internationally acclaimed Indigenous artist with a painting set to hang in the Louvre in October 2020.... One of his artworks shown here 'Spirits of Warriors Past', depicts the Dreaming story of reincarnated ancestors as orcas. In the Dreaming of the Yuin people, killer whales are considred to be their totem animal and reincarnations of their ancestors. Yuin elder Guboo Ted Thomas heard stories of his grandfather riding on the backs of killer whales; and there are strong connections to the migrations of orcas and the rising on the star cluster the Pleiades in the constellaton of Taurus. Mr Hornsby says he achieves the celestial look by using actual images of galaxies and star systems while he paints. (Source: Donal Sheil) See more
