24.01.2022 In some patients there can be limited bone for dental implants due to a low lying sinus cavity. In many cases this can be easily fixed with a sinus lift procedure. A bone graft can be done to allow enough bone for implant placement at a later stage.

We are still maintaining social distancing for consults and trying to limit the number of patients in the waiting rooms at any given time. We will be in contact with all patients delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Townsville OMS is the only practice with surgeons based locally. This allows us to provide emergency appointments when needed and to provide post operative support for all our patients. 18.01.2022 The COVID-19 pandemic has become a global health emergency. The situation is changing rapidly and we will continue to reassess the service we can provide on a daily basis. Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons are among the highest risk groups to contract or spread the virus, due to the nature of our treatments within the mouth and airway. The appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is in extremely limited supply and must be utilized very carefully. All elective and non-ur...gent surgical cases have been ceased until further notice. All non-urgent consultation/reviews for March and April have been cancelled. At this stage, Dr Ben Rahmel will offer phone consultations* for URGENT referrals and care for patients who require EMERGENCY treatment, in accordance with the Australian & New Zealand Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (ANZAOMS) guidelines and Government advice. We are not sure how long these measures will stay in place. We will review and advise bookings for May in due course. Once the threat has passed and the rooms (together with the Mater Hospital) are fully operational again, patients who have had their consultation and/or treatment cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, will be given priority. *Suitability for phone consultations will be assessed on each individual case. 08.01.2022 The government has started to ease the restrictions on elective surgery. There are however still limitations in place and this will be a gradual process. Currently we have only limited operating time available and we must still restrict operations to those with pathology, infection or pain. If restrictions continue to ease, we may be able to resume normal elective surgery in the near future. If you have pain, recurrent infection or concern about your condition deteriorati...ng please let us know. Once restrictions are FULLY lifted and our normal operating lists are available, we will be in contact with patients to reschedule non-urgent surgery that was cancelled due to COVID. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

08.01.2022 Today we welcomed Dr Marcus Sinanan to the TOMS team. Dr Sinanan has also been a Consultant at the TUH for the last two years, with a background in General Maxillofacial Surgery, Head & Neck Surgery and Salivary Gland surgery. Dr Sinanan, together with his wife and family have settled to call Townsville home. TOMS now has three locally based Surgeons to serve the needs of Townsville and surrounding communities, offering a wider scope of practice and postoperative support. This will also help minimise waiting times and allow more availability for emergency care.
