25.01.2022 Did you guess correctly? Rob Unger ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ by Charles Dickens This book was my first real exposure to one of the classics and I enjoyed it so much I have revisited it several times in recent years. As a result of reading this book, I went on to explore other classics like Robinson Crusoe, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. ... Helen Kwaka ‘Damascus’ by Christos Tsiolkas I came across this book after attending Christos’ amazing talk at the 2020 Adelaide Writers’ Week. I’ve read all of his books but this one in particular is magnificent looks at class, religion, masculinity, patriarchy, colonisation, exile. Jessica Lintvelt ‘Harry Potter’ by JK Rowling I grew up reading Harry Potter and have read the series several times over. There are so many iconic characters and moments throughout the series and the books made me laugh, cry and everything in between. (I’ll never forgive JK Rowling for Hedwig though). I’m so excited to read these books with my daughter in a few years’ time. Kevin Knight ‘Adventures of the Secret Seven’ by Enid Blyton I first read this when I was six years old and still have my original books from the series from my parents. I credit these books with the passion I have for reading a well-written story and I remain an avid reader of fiction and adventure stories to this day. #TeaTreeGullyReads #SouthAustraliaReads #AustraliaReads #LibrariesSAOneCard #AustraliaReadsAtHome #SouthAustraliaReadsAtHome

09.01.2022 Keep your 1.5 or feel the wrath of Darth Rads!

09.01.2022 Did you guess correctly? Carol Neil ‘Where Song Began’ by Tim Low I heard about this fascinating book on a podcast. Turns out songbirds originated in Australia, millions of years ago, and from here they spread out across the world.... Brett Rankine ‘Click Clack Moo, Cows that Type’ by Doreen Cronin It’s a great collective story, where the cows band together and type letters on a typewriter asking the farmer to improve their conditions. Eventually the farmer agrees. Olivia Savvas ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ by Delia Owens This is the best book I’ve read in years. It’s romantic, political, heart-warming and juicy the twists had me dreaming about the book for weeks! It’s Delia’s first novel and she perfects the voice of young Kya who raises herself in the midst of a swamp in North Carolina. Damian Wyld ‘The Silmarillion’ by J.R.R Tolkien is my favourite book. His books ‘Lord of the Rings’ tends to steal the limelight, but his masterpiece ‘The Silmarillion’ is truly epic. A remarkable allegory of good vs. evil and hope amidst despair, I first read it during uni holidays 20 years ago and I couldn’t put it down. #TeaTreeGullyReads #SouthAustraliaReads #AustraliaReads #LibrariesSAOneCard #AustraliaReadsAtHome #SouthAustraliaReadsAtHome
