The Wangetti Trail is a one-of-a-kind experience of Indigenous cultural history and stunning coastal and hinterland scenery of the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics and Great Barrier Reef. Walkers and mountain bike riders will be treated to a one-of-a-kind experience of th...e regions Indigenous cultural history and the stunning coastal and hinterland scenery from Palm Cove to Port Douglas. 18.01.2022 US VIRTUAL VISIT || Last week TEQs US office conducted the inaugural virtual Queensland Tourism Exchange, an online trade training event. The program allowed Queensland sellers to virtually engage with key North American buyers to maintain preferred partnership, review experience development, and to discuss opportunities for when Australian borders reopen. Tropical North Queensland operators represented a third of the total participants ( go TNQ) that met with around 60 key North American buyers, a group that represent TEQs core partners in-market. 12.01.2022 TOURISM LEADER TO GUIDE REGION’S RECOVERY || Tourism industry leader Ken Chapman has been elected Chair of Tourism Tropical North Queensland at the first meeting this week of the new elected TTNQ Board. The Chairman of Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, Mr Chapman has a distinguished career in tourism in both the domestic and international markets, is a former Tourism Australia Board Director and a major investor in the industry. He has been appointed for a three-year term to guide... the destination through its recovery from the impact of the pandemic. 11.01.2022 INSURANCE INQUIRY || The Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO) has launched an inquiry to investigate the practices of the insurance industry that impact small businesses and consider whether small business insurance products are fit for purpose. Affected tourism small business operators may be interested in contributing to this inquiry. The inquiry responds to a growing trend of insurance companies denying small businesses insurance or pricing ...insurance policies out of reach. The inquiry will target a range of issues: - the availability and coverage of insurance policies provided to small business - insurance policy affordability - the role of brokers in getting the right coverage - contract changes that have not been agreed to and whether they amount to unfair contract terms - timeliness of insurance payouts and effectiveness of dispute resolution frameworks - the effectiveness of relevant codes of conduct and legislation, including if applicable penalties are adequate. Interstate media representing Traveller, news.com.au, Travel Weekly, HM Magazine, Channel 7 and Wayfarer Travel TV arrived on the first Virgin Airways flight from the new Brisbane Airport runway. They were joined by a reporter from the Sunshine Coast Daily who flew to Cairns on the first Alliance Airlines flight from the Sunshine Coast. 10.01.2022 SURVEY || Cairns residents will have an opportunity to voice their opinion on issues as part of the new Our Cairns community survey. The multi-faceted survey will enable residents to tell Council their views on a plethora of subject matters. The broad community survey was last conducted in 2016 and had 6400 respondents. The survey can be done online, or a printed version is available at Council libraries and the customer service centre. Hard copy surveys can be returned to th...ose areas once completed. 10.01.2022 DIVE INTO SUMMER IN THE TROPICS || A whole new cast of characters can be spotted during summer on the Great Barrier Reef when light winds and excellent visibility offer optimum conditions for snorkelling and diving from Cairns. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority has posted a picture of the first whale shark arriving and Cairns-based Master Reef Guide guide Michelle Barry, who works for the Entrada Travel Group, anticipates more sightings. Whale sharks arrive on th...e Great Barrier Reef before the coral spawn, with the curious juvenile males are often seen by passengers on the boats, she says. Quicksilver Group Master Reef Guide Sam Gray says summer is the sexiest time on the Great Barrier Reef. The waters are warm and calm with amazing visibility, often around 25 metres. 09.01.2022 BRIDGE OR FERRY || The Daintree River Crossing Options Assessment Report examines a two-ferry service and bridge option across the Daintree River, and compares them to the current single ferry service. You can view the Report online. Douglas Shire Council is giving the community the chance to have a say. Hard copies of the Report may be viewed at Councils Admin office in Mossman, at both libraries, Croc Espresso in Daintree Village and at Masons Cafe in Cape Tribulation. T...here will be a few copies for viewing at Rainforest Village in Diwan and the Daintree Discovery Centre in Cow Bay this week. Council will make its decision on the future of the river crossing based on the results of the community consultation. Feedback will be sought two ways: 1. Via an online survey from 14 September 2020. A survey link will be emailed out and posted on the Councils website. All residents will receive a survey card in their letterbox. 2. The survey checkbox responses only, so for those wanting to provide extended comments, these can be emailed to [email protected]. The closing date for feedback is 26 October 2020.
