19.01.2022 Summer can mean rising temperatures and sometimes your dog may need some extra help keeping cool. Never leave your dog in the car. Not even if you think you’ll only be a few minutes. The temp can increase extremely quick inside a closed car, even if you have a window slightly open. ... Leave your dog at home if you think you may need to stop off somewhere while you are out and about. Keep you house cool if your dog is kept inside. Leave the air conditioner on and close the blinds. If you don't have AC you might consider other options such as a cooling vest or mat and always allow access to a ample supply of fresh water. Always use common sense when it comes to exercising your dog. Limit when and how much exercise you do when it's hot. Take walks in the cooler part of the day, early morning and later in the evening is best. Place your hand palm side up on the ground for a few seconds, if it is to hot for you then most likely it is to hot for the paws of your dog so wait a bit longer. Carry enough water for both you and your dog. At home ensure ample access to clean water and shade. Kiddie pools or a sprinklers are a great way to cool off in the yard also. Try giving some frozen ice blocks with a few treats or toys inside, I like to use a 2 litre container because it lasts a bit longer. Take care with dogs at a higher risk. Be watchful if you have a snub-nosed pet, their smaller airways make it harder for them to release heat when they pant. It's also easy for older companions and those with heart and health issues to get heatstroke. If your dog has long hair get rid of any mats and tangles. Don't shave or clip his coat before you talk to your vet if breeder as some breeds can encounter serious problems and damage if this is done. The extra fur that keeps him warm in winter may also keep him cool in summer. Visit your vet. Summer is high season for fleas and the spreading of many diseases, mosquitoes can also carry heartworm. Your dog can't tell you when he doesn't feel well, so keep an eye out for heatstroke, which can include some of these symptoms: Heavy panting Heavy drooling Trouble breathing Rapid heartbeat Dark or red gums and tongue Dizziness Weakness Agitation If you see any of these signs get to the vet right away, it is always better to be safe then sorry.

18.01.2022 REMEMBER: if you’re buying a purebred dog or puppy always ask the breeder for their breeder registration number & CHECK ITS LEGITIMATE. Phone the Dogs Tasmania office on 6272 9443 and ask if this number matches the breed as well as the person and kennel which is advertising the particular litter in question. Unfortunately these days we see many instances of fake numbers being used (especially on Gumtree) and misrepresentation being used to fool unsuspecting people, while we... remind people to report to thoroughly check breeders out and report people and adds who are not legitimate it often it comes too late for a potential buyer. A registered breeder has to abide by the code of conduct of the ANKC association AND in many breed specific areas, ALL REGISTERED breeders must also ensure specific health tests been carried out on the parents on their chosen breed. There seems to be trend on fad colours in many breeds but in truth while once every so often a particular pup may appear in a litter very strict restrictions apply and its is NOT something that is encouraged. This is because at times there are potential health problems associated with many of these rare colours. Breeding for health a d temperament is paramount and no breeder should be promoting colours as a selling point. Not all breeders choose to show their animals so consider asking for recommendations and ask your local ANKC affiliate (Dogs... Tasmania, Victoria, NSW ect) for a breeders list on your chosen breed, remember to research the breed well. ALWAYS consider the BREEDS lifestyle needs and requirements and do they suit your own household needs, many working breeds need LOTS of exercise and consistent training and stimulation, just because you would love a particular breed unfortunately it's not always possible. Be aware, do your homework and ask lots of questions to avoid being preyed upon by disreputable people!. For any queries in the legitimacy of a breed and in order to authenticate a breeder you can ring the Dogs Tasmania office on 6272 9443.

16.01.2022 Chocolate Poisoning. With Easter fast approaching dogs are known to eat things they are not supposed to eat. This can be dangerous when there is chocolate being hidden around the house or in the yard when preparing for the almighty egg hunt.... Chocolate is derived from the roasted seeds of Theobroma cacao, which contains properties that are toxic to animals, caffeine and theobromine if ingested can also lead to medical complications and may even become fatal. Symptoms may be one or multiple of the following Vomiting Diarrhea Increased body temperature Increased reflex responses Muscle rigidity Rapid breathing Increased heart rate Low blood pressure Seizures Always be on alert and make sure you do not feed anything that might contain chocolate, keep you dog secure away from the egg hunting area and always keep a count or a map of how many eggs you have hidden and how many have been found. Lets keep our pets out of harms way and take extra care to prevent any accidental chocolate Poisoning.

07.01.2022 Take note of these regulations on animal welfare, care and control, this is the legislation for Tasmania. There are many new amendments that some people may not be aware of. https://www.legislation.tas.gov.au//i/current/act-2000-102

04.01.2022 We have had a few enquiries lately as to why we have been a bit quiet on our page. This has been several attempts in the making of writing this and many second thoughts on if I am doing what is right for us. The reason why we have been absent is because we have had a few things going on, unfortunately with the loss of our beautiful Sasha who was the pinnacle of my breeding and produced some amazingpuppies well beyond my wildest expectations, then followed by our young girl Ma...rley and more recently my gorgeous boy Storm who lost his battle from a brain tumour to say we have many moments where we struggle to come to terms with losing part of our family is an understatement. It has been a rollercoaster of feelings and emotions as I took absolute pride in being a ethical and reputable breeder who had high expectations of myself to do the very best I could for the breed. So with all this being said we have retired from breeding for the foreseeable future. We have accomplished more then we could ever have dreamed, the memories along the legacy of the Tuabu breeding as well all the positive feedback that we have had about our beautiful dogs has been a wonderful experience and I am truly grateful to the families that has made breeding a pleasure and all you have done to continue to provide me with updates, photos and friendship. Shadow, Bailey and our new addition Axel from one of our earliest litters who we have welcomed back with pleasure are going to continue to be the sun loving dogs lazing about all day . We would like to thank all our wonderful owners for your support and remember if you need ANYTHING at all I am always available no matter what time of day it is, you have been the best owners and credit to you guys for raising such wonderful dogs.

02.01.2022 Some photos today of the dogs, Storm and Marley, these two are kindred souls.
