25.01.2022 Our blood stocks are running low. Thousands of Australians need a blood transfusion every single day. That's people who have been in accidents. People who are ...sick. People who have just given birth or undergone major surgery. All of them can be helped by someone else taking an hour out of their day to give blood. So please if you can, book in at your nearest blood donation clinic and share a pint of the red stuff. You'll never know whose life you're saving.
24.01.2022 We received some beautiful roses from a lovely Neighbourhood House neighbour today.
23.01.2022 UNDER CONSTRUCTION: COMMUNITY HOUSING PROJECT TO HOUSE YOUNGER PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES UNDERWAY! Construction is currently under way for a new $1.8 m...illion community housing development in Sale, to accommodate up to seven people living with disabilities under the age of 65. The housing development marks Stage 2 of the broader $5 million project in McCole St, and is designed to house residents who require a high level of care. The share house facility, which features five bedrooms with an overnight carers room, as well as two independent units, is the first dedicated housing facility for younger people requiring access to 24/7 care in the town. For young people, who have previously only had the option of living with their family or entering an aged care home, Victorian Government Minister, the Hon Melissa Horne, described the opportunity to live independently with other young people as a 'game changer'. "We're all about providing accessible affordable accommodation for people with disabilities for their whole of life, and getting young people out of aged care facilities", says Five Star project chair Leo O'Brien. "Some of them have been under their parents care for quite a few years, so there's things like life skills like cooking, shopping and looking after their money that are needed, so we run programs for all those sorts of things." State Manager of Community Housing Ltd, Grant McNeil commended the Sale community on raising the money for the project in collaboration with funding from the Victorian Government. Community fundraising events such as 'Dancing With The Stars', held between 2010 and 2013, were instrumental in bring the project to fruition. The project is due for completion in April 2021.
