24.01.2022 Sea Celery is a great native vegetable. It grows well all time of the year and makes a tasty local alternative to the exotic celery most are familiar with. #nativevegie #bushfood #tuckerbushplants
24.01.2022 Lemon Aspen is a type of native citrus, bearing small edible fruits that taste like a cross between a sour lime and a grapefruit. Being a rainforest species, the fruit may sometimes be referred to as a rainforest lemon. This tree is native to Far North Queensland so protect from frosts when young. Unfortunately due to high demand and short supply, Lemon Aspen won't be available until next year. #nativecitrus #nativefruit #tuckerbushplants
24.01.2022 The lovely red tinged foliage of Sea Purslane in contrast against the lime green leaves of River Mint. Both are actively starting to grow now the weather is warming up. Sea Purslane eaten raw, the leaves proffer a salty and slightly bitter or acidic flavour with a crunchy succulent texture great for pickling! When cooked, the flavours and textures soften suitably for a variety of savoury dishes and garnishes. Sea Purslane leaves are a good source of vitamin C #nativevegie #eatyourselftohealth #tuckerbushplants

This white finger like tubers are edible and usually grow to around 3.5cm in length, around 15cm below the surface. Raw tubers are slightly sweet and best eaten when young. As the plant ages the leaves become much thinner, and a paler green and the plant develops "spines". Hence the other common name "Prickly Fan Flower. 10.01.2022 Warrine is active from Djeran (autumn) to Kambarang (spring) and is completely dormant in Birak (summer) Warrine is an edible native yam, harvested during the Noongar season of Kambarang (Oct Nov). Traditionally, this species was grown extensively from Perth’s southern coasts all the way up to Shark Bay, with single yam fields often covering several square kilometers. Warrine tubers are long, thin and white. They can be eaten raw, but taste much better lightly roasted with butter or a pinch of salt. This native vegetable is a great ingredient in a variety of savoury and sweet dishes, like stews, pies, curries, tarts, dumplings and cakes. This is available W.A (metro) only. https://tucker-bush.square.site/ #bushfood #nativevegie #tuckerbushplants
