14.01.2022 Fresh Funk’s 20th anniversary this year certainly did not go to plan, BUT the program adapted brilliantly and ended on a high note! The year began with gusto, large classes and plans for all kinds of projects, and guest choreographers from LA all within the first month! Then as COVID hit, the program was forced to move online. While this dealt a huge blow, it also forged a strong online bond between the participants and tutors, that led to lots of training at home, sending in... videos for feedback, live sessions, zoom calls with dance friends to practise together, and proved that the Fresh Funk connection goes way beyond the classroom. When Semester 2 began back in the studio, the excitement and positivity was palpable. There was an incredible energy about being in classes together again, sharing, and bouncing off each other’s vibes. Things were different, but everyone was grateful to be back in this special community and determined to make the best of things. We couldn’t have live theatre audiences, so we re-thought it all. Brilliant concept-video pieces were created in a new version of the Young Choreographers Initiative, and the end-of-year show became an end-of-year cinematic spectacular at Limelight Cinemas. The show was ambitious and the screenings were sold out and full of cheering crowds. The positivity of the Fresh Funk culture is undeniable, and it truly shone through in 2020. Congratulations to all on an incredible year. Merry Christmas, and a safe and Happy New Year we cannot wait for what 2021 will bring! #tuggeranongartscentre #canberradance #communityarts #freshfunk #freshfunk2020 #cbrarts
