22.01.2022 Is it a cold, or is it allergies? This can be especially challenging during late winter and early spring, when cold and flu season, as well as allergy season, are in full swing. Fortunately, there are a few typical telltale signs that tend to differentiate the two. Once you figure out whether youre suffering from allergies or a cold, you can seek the appropriate treatment, manage your symptoms, and get on with the business of living your life. For more information, read our latest post: https://buff.ly/2EQkdqG?

22.01.2022 ACT Health is warning Canberrans about the potential for a thunderstorm asthma event in the ACT region today (Sunday 22 November) and tomorrow (Monday 23 Novemb...er). The warning comes as we see elevated pollen levels and the possibility of severe thunderstorms over the next two days, increasing the risk of a thunderstorm asthma event. People who suffer from hay fever or asthma are encouraged to be vigilant for any worsening of their condition. Thunderstorm asthma can be sudden, serious and even life threatening for people with asthma or hay fever. Protect yourself, or someone you care for, from risk by: staying indoors with windows and doors closed staying in air-conditioned premises, and if possible, switching the air conditioner to ‘recycle’ or ‘recirculate’ to reduce the amount of dust entering the building avoiding all vigorous exercise, especially if you have a heart or lung conditions If you experience asthma symptoms which are unrelieved by their usual asthma treatment, seek urgent medical advice. In the event of a medical emergency call 000. If it is safe to do so, check on elderly neighbours or people who you think might need extra help. 17.01.2022 We have had lots of questions about physical distancing in pharmacies. We absolutely want to keep an appropriate space between all people in our pharmacies and ...are taking steps to limit the number of people present in our pharmacies at any one time. Please help us by respecting and following crowd control efforts and floor spacing. Officially, pharmacies are health care destinations and are exempted from social distancing requirements as determined by the National Cabinet. At times (e.g. vaccinations) we have no choice but to be closer. We have changed our procedures to reduce this to the minimum amount of time possible. Please work with us to transact efficiently. Please be respectful. Please be polite. Anxiety is understandable but anger and inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated. Please dont be greedy. We have guidelines and laws to work within for the supply of many products. Please be patient. No-one is going without any immediately necessary health care in our pharmacies. 09.01.2022 Arthritis is a major cause of disability and chronic pain. Its estimated that about 4 million Australians are affected by it, with problems including pain, stiffness, and inflammation and damage to joint cartilage which can cause weakness in joints, instability and deformities. Many people believe that arthritis refers to a single disease, but it actually is an umbrella term for more than 100 related medical conditions involving our bones and muscles Three of these osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout account for more than 95% of cases in Australia. If you suffer from arthritis, we are here to answer any questions or concerns that you have about your medicine and to make sure you are getting the maximum health benefits from them.

08.01.2022 Dont touch your face! Its one of the best ways to reduce your risk of getting sick. Mucous membranes - like our eyes, nose and mouth - are ideal passageways f...or viruses When you touch your face with dirty hands, germs can take up residence and make you unwell. We know this is easier said than done though Luckily, regular and thorough hand washing (20 to 30 seconds) and cleaning frequently touched surfaces, like desks and phones, can lower your risk of infections. Be mindful, though your hands are only clean until you touch the next surface. Follow our other hygiene advice in the comments below to keep you and our community safe from illnesses like #COVID19

07.01.2022 Come in tomorrow - we will be open from 9am-6pm

07.01.2022 We wanted to share this lovely message from Canberra Special Children's Christmas Party. "Dear Capital Chemist, Well, 2020 has almost been and gone, and what an... interesting year it was, to say the least! We want to take this opportunity to offer a HUGE thank you for sticking with us in 2020! It was a trying and testing year for us all, so thank you for your support. More importantly, thank you from all the special needs children and their families. Despite everything else going on in the world, the reasons these children are chosen each year remains the same, so thank you for helping create a memorable experience for these children and their families. Your support helped create something for these children to look forward to in an otherwise uncertain year so thank you again! Please take a couple of minutes break and have a look at the amazing video footage below, to see how your support contributed towards bringing Big Smiles to Little Faces this year." The pleasure is all ours being part of this heart-warming event. #CommunityMatters #SpecialChildrensChristmasParty #CommunityMattersProgram

07.01.2022 Should I wear a mask? If you are healthy, you do not need to wear a mask. Masks are recommended for healthcare workers for when they are assessing and testi...ng sick patients for #COVID19. They are also used for people who are unwell with respiratory symptoms (for example coughing and sneezing) and people who are suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19. Masks help contain infectious droplets from sick people and keep those around them safe. The best and easiest way to reduce your risk of getting sick and spreading disease is to follow good hygiene practices and social distancing.

06.01.2022 A cheeky but pertinent (not to mention memorable) reminder about masks!

04.01.2022 Remember to store hand sanitisers safely and out of reach of children. Shortages of packaging, bottles and pumps have seen supplies in a variety of container types, including those that look like drink bottles. When used by young children, please supervise. For advice on possible poisoning, please contact the 24-hour Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26.... https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/news/Pages/20200412_01.aspx #handsanitiser #kidsafety #COVID19

04.01.2022 Are you one of the estimated 3% of Australians suffering from psoriasis? In addition to the uncomfortable and sometimes painful symptoms of the disease, psoriasis can significantly affect a sufferers quality of life. Some studies of people with psoriasis show that up to 70% will avoid swimming, and 40% will avoid playing sport. 12% will even avoid leaving their house, with many people experiencing anxiety and/or depression. While theres no known cure for psoriasis yet, ther...e are treatments which can help to control the symptoms. These include topical creams or ointments, pills or injections, and UV or light therapy administered by a dermatologist. Ask your pharmacist about the pros and cons of different treatment options, and which may work best for you.

03.01.2022 Did you know that you can safely dispose of your expired and unwanted medicines at your local pharmacy? Storing medicines that you no longer need in the home can be dangerous, and disposing of them inappropriately can also harm the environment. Speak to us for more information or visit https://buff.ly/2Tjj6DA
