25.01.2022 Our residents and staff have been taking extra care to safe, but still are managing to have some fun! International Friendship Day was celebrated together, with in-person and online connections . More updates are in our current newsletter found on Tuia Lodge website. #familyandfriends #connection

25.01.2022 100 years young! Tuia Lodge resident Pru celebrated her 100th birthday, with singing, flowers, cards throughout the day. Oh, and cake! Staff and residents enthusiastically sang Happy Birthday over breakfast for Pru, before local Donnybrook radio surprised her with a radio announcement in celebration of her birthday followed by some old time favourites.... Pru was then treated to a surprise birthday lunch taking place in a secretly prepared and decorated room, filled with balloons, more flowers and cards, favourite foods, and close family. The birthday cake was a highlight Afternoon tea saw residents sharing stories, laughter and of course, just a little more cake!

23.01.2022 The Tuia Team were greeted by the Manager Clinical Care & Coordinator Aged Care Support Services with a medal, stickers, and streamers in recognition of all their hard work, especially during current times. #Thanksforcaring

22.01.2022 Did you know? Hairdresser services are available for residents to visit in the salon every Monday morning. A running list for haircuts is kept in the office for Kaz and Sharlene during the week for those who wish to have a trim.

20.01.2022 In anticipation of COVID-19 disrupting our staffing ability at Tuia Lodge we are reaching out to the Community for assistance in putting together a contingency plan. Would you be able to help if we needed it? We are especially looking for expressions of interest from Donnybrook locals who may be able to assist with things such as: Caring for residents Food preparation and service... Cleaning Laundry and general assistance. We hope that it doesn't impact us and that we wont have to enact any such plan; but if you could assist in such a scenario could you please give us a call at the Lodge on 9732 3500 and register your expression of interest...being prepared means that we will be able to tackle anything that comes our way and you would certainly have the thanks of our residents and staff.

17.01.2022 COVID-19 Update #1 Tuia Lodge is following the National Guidelines for Residential Care Facilities as developed by the Communicable Diseases Network Australia and communicated through the Health Department. In Line with those guidelines we have undertaken the following measures: * Reception has been modified and screening of all visitors has been implemented. * Between the hours of 4pm to 8am and on weekends access to Tuia Lodge will require visitors ringing the front door be...ll. * All other areas of access to the facility have been closed. Please note that our screening may result in some visitors being refused access depending on their answers to screening questions but we are not in total lock-down at this stage. We will keep everyone updated as these restrictions inevitably tighten over the coming days and weeks and ask you to keep in mind our overarching responsibility to ensure the well being of our residents. 11.01.2022 COVID-19 Update #2 Following on from the PM’s announcements this morning we are taking the following further precautions effective immediately. Whilst school groups visiting Tuia Lodge had previously been cancelled the ban on children now extends to anyone under 16 years of age entering Tuia Lodge.... Visits to residents will be restricted to a maximum of 2 people at one time during the day and the duration of these visits will be monitored. Please try to limit these visitors to immediate family members, close friends and family supports. Visitors will not be allowed to roam between rooms and visit multiple residents and visits will only be allowed in residents rooms or in outdoor areas. All visits by visiting allied health professionals as well as entertainers have been cancelled until further notice. The physio will interact where required via Skype.

10.01.2022 It can be tempting to take over and do things for people with dementia. You might be surprised by how much they can do for themselves. Are you giving people with dementia enough space? Take Dementia Australia’s quiz to find out what you can do. Visit https://discrimination.dementia.org.au/action-week/ for more information. #dementiaawareness

06.01.2022 World Chocolate Day! So chocolate can be eaten any time, it's true. But any excuse to indulge is always good! This celebration day was enjoyed by residents making rocky road. #celebration #chocolate

04.01.2022 Residents have been enjoying rounds of marbles, and other old school yard games this rainy week. We have been sharing stories about childhood games with laughter and some demonstrations too.

04.01.2022 26-3-20 Update Hello Everyone, Another week nearly completed and everyone here has stayed well which is our primary aim.... The weather has been a little up and down but Julie and Caroline continue to do a great job getting all of our residents as mobile as possible and where possible enjoying this extended good weather with small activities in the outdoor areas. Everyone is looking forward to Fish and Chip Friday tomorrow. All of our staff have commenced the flu vaccination process with 30 staff to be vaccinated this week. We hope to have the rest of the vaccines shortly to extend the program to all staff. We will be testing our contingency planning for food supply in a very positive way this week with Carolyn Hayes joining our team to prepare meals in house each Wednesday for the next four (4) weeks at least. As well as testing our ability and honing our kitchen staff skills and processes we hope that this will go further to brightening the Wednesdays for all our residents with some great meal choices being offered each week. Please keep in mind that the Government has instructed that from the 1st of May anyone who visits an Aged Care Facility must be vaccinated. Please get those vaccinations as soon as you can. We continue to remain positive with great support from the Shire Senior Management and Councilors to keep everyone safe and well. As usual please feel free to ask if you have any questions or concerns. If family members can’t make a visit in person we can facilitate both phone and skype calls given some notice. Kind Regards, Bob Lowther Manager Aged Care Services

03.01.2022 Last week we had a delivery of some beautiful artwork from the students of St. Mary's Primary School. Our thanks go out to the teachers and students for continuing to support our residents. We sincerely appreciate it ! Remember if you have a family member who is under 16 and would like to do a "virtual visit" with a resident the team are happy to assist with Skype or video calls.

03.01.2022 12.04.2020 HAPPY EASTER! The Easter Bunny was given special dispensation to pass through the screening process. Our residents are delighted to receive this special visitor. We have been on virtual outings a visit to Paris to see Mona Lisa, sea life at Monterrey Bay Aquarium. Wishing you all a Happy Easter from us all.

02.01.2022 Residents were treated to some in house cooking by our recently hired cook. Dishes for the day consisted of Tuna Macaroni, Baked Apple and Custard, Tomato and Basil Soup, and Apricot Chicken. With plates proverbially licked clean, and bellies full, the experience for the residents brought smiles to their faces. Tuna-in this Wednesday, for more delicious foods.

02.01.2022 COVID-19 Update #3 Just an update on what is happening here at the Lodge. We really appreciate that everyone is following the government rules and that is going a long way to helping the community and keeping our residents safe. We are not yet in a full lockdown situation so visitors, as long as we are all following the government issued guidelines, are still welcome. ... The second roll out of Flu vaccinations to staff has commenced. Please remember that the Department of Health requires all visitors to residential aged care to be vaccinated and provide evidence from the 1 May 2020. If you are unable to visit but would like to communicate with a resident, please call us. We will do everything we can to facilitate video or telephone call at any time. Yesterday we had day #2 of cooking in-house to test our contingency plan for long term capability in this area. The meals prepared were really enjoyed by all, especially the trifle! The feedback received has been excellent and have had nothing but positive comments from our residents. Everyone here remains upbeat and positive as can be and we have made sure the Easter Bunny can get through our reception/screening station with ease. Happy Easter !
