23.01.2022 Last week we celebrated Waitangi Day. Waitangi Day is the national day of New Zealand, and commemorates the signing, on 6 February 1840, of the Treaty of Waitangi. During group time the children discussed Waitangi Day and watched a video about Waitangi Day, which is about the New Zealand culture. Some children noticed that the New Zealand people were wearing a special cloak called a Piupiu (feather cloak). Piupiu are taonga (treasures) that are often worn on special occasions. As a combined group project the Butterflies and Beetles room made thier our own Piupiu. These activities are a great way to create culture awareness for all children. They allow the children to understand similarities and differences in people, culture, traditions etc.

22.01.2022 Hello, my name is Alessia and I am the Sustainability officer for TELC and have the honour to be in charge of our Sustainability Program for 2021 . My purpose, here at TELC is to embed sustainable practices into our everyday lives. Sustainable practices are so important in a childcare environment, they can establish and guarantee a connection between children and the environment. This could be done in many ways: recycling and reuse various objects for the daily routine an...d/or during play. Children can feel a connection with the world around us, just if we are going to share it with them and let them discover unbelievable ways on how to interact with it. The Tullamarine ELC educators are doing their best to identify and bring to the centre more materials and stuff to reuse during the daily schedule. We will love to have your and your children's support in collecting recycled material that could be used by children for a variety of purposes. For example, clean plastic lids, paper towel cylinders, buttons, wool, fabric, packaging materials, stamps, screws, bottle tops, natural materials, etc. (For Health and Safety reasons, exclude toilet rolls and egg cartons) #sustainability #sustainableliving #savetheenviroment #savetheplanet #tullamarine #tullamarineelc See more

14.01.2022 It is important that every person understands how and when to call for emergency services, regardless of age. It is important that your child knows what to expect and how to answer questions asked by the emergency operator. Children as young as three have been able to save their parents in an emergency by calling 000 and providing vital information, such as a name and address. Children need to learn the emergency number and to ...memorize 000 in case they need to call emergency services and know not to call 911. Australians are frequently exposed to American television shows and movies where characters are seen to call 911 in the event of an emergency. Children may be influenced when they watch these shows and it is important to teach all children to call the correct phone number for emergency services in Australia. See more

14.01.2022 Hand Painting Today in the Caterpillars Room, the children engaged in a colour mixing activity. We used the primary colours - Red, Blue & Yellow to create our beautiful table masterpiece. We also added objects like blocks and small cars to create shapes and patterns across the paper. Mixing colours is a great way to extend on the children’s colour recognition skills and imagination skills #colourmixing #primarycolours #red #blue #yellow #tullamarinelc

12.01.2022 For the month of February TELC focused on 'Geography' The children in the Beetles room were reading a story called "Everyone Eats" The children then began to show interest in foods from around the world. So to extend on their interest the children made different foods from all over the world. Sushi from Japan, Tacos from Mexico and Spaghetti from Italy. By teaching the children about food from around the world we are opening up their eyes to a whole different culture and letting them learn different meals and traditions from all around the world.

11.01.2022 On Friday, the Bumble Bee's children along with the Butterflies children we went on an excursion to the Melbourne Airport Quest Hotel! Before they left the educators sat with the children and explained that they would get paired up with a child from the other room. They would then hold hands as we walked to The Quest to have a picnic lunch. We put on our safety vests and off we went. The children enjoyed the walk as it felt like a little adventure. Looking at what was around the centre, watching the trucks and just exploring and looking at everything we walked past. Once we arrived at The Quest we were met by the Manager Mike who took us for a quick tour around the hotel. We saw the reception, the conference room and the gym. Then we went and sat in the outdoor area and had a picnic lunch.

11.01.2022 Today we had a visit from Teeth On Wheels. Joseph and Dee give a presentation about what foods are good for your teeth and which foods are not. They also showed us the proper way to brush. Then later some of the children had a visit to the dental van for a check up. Thank you Joseph and Dee for coming out to visit.

09.01.2022 The children in the Butterflies Room participated in a science experiment using oil and coloured water. Each child had a turn at using the plastic droppers to transfer the coloured water into the jar full of oil. They were all so excited to see the reaction it caused. Each time the water droplets hit the oil it was cause a water bubble to appear and stink down to the bottom of the jar, which looked just like a lava lamp. The learning benefit of this science experiment is unli...mited. Participating in sciences experiments helps develop a child's resourcefulness, particularly their skills at goal-setting, planning, and problem-solving. It also nurtures intellectual curiosity, helping children acquire new ways of asking questions and understanding the world. They reflected on this experiment during a group discussion by asking the children to critically think about what happened and why.

03.01.2022 Introducing the Bumble Bee's room to experiments by making "Moon Rocks" Using Bi carb soda, water and black colouring we mix all of them together and made moon rocks. We molded them into balls and put them in the freezer for half and hour. When they were ready we each took a "Moon rock" and used an eye dropper with Vinegar to squirt the "Moon rocks" Baking soda and vinegar science activities like these fizzing moon rocks is a really fun and unique way to introduce children t...o the world of chemistry. The baking soda is a base and the vinegar is an acid. When you combine the two, you produce a gas called carbon dioxide. You can see, hear, feel, and smell the chemical reaction.

01.01.2022 The Beetles room have been discussing "How to Promote a Healthy Lifestyle" the children have been engaged in learning about the body. They focused on the Skeletal system. The educator went through each bone using a skelton and spoke to the children about what each bone is called, what roll each bone performs in the body and why we have bones. They then demonstrated on the children where each bone goes in the body. This ensures the children had a clear visual idea of where the... bones are placed in the body. As an extension to thr group discussion of the skeletal system the children have been provided with a hands on art based activity that allows them to engage in a discussion with peers well participating in a creative experience. This allowed educator to scaffold the children's learning by asking them to recall names of the bones in their bodies! This encouraged the children to replicate the skeletal system by using cotton buds in different sizes to make a human skeleton well discussing the names of the bones! See more
