23.01.2022 The weather has been absolutely beautiful lately and we are really enjoying our outside play and investigation times. This week, we decided to do something a little different and create our own paint brushes from sticks and leaves we found in our outdoor area. The paint brushes are perfect for textured paintings. This activity allows children to explore their creativity and imagination freely. Exploring the patterns the nature paint brushes transferred onto the paper, mix...ing coloured paint together and creating shapes and pictures with no restrictions or expectations. Each paint brush had a different type of plant leaf attached to them which created different patterns and textures on the paper. We discovered that one of the paint brushes was more prickly and hard while another one was soft and a bit floppy. Each created a different textured pattern on the painting. 19.01.2022 The Tully Kindy children have been very excited exploring butterflies. Thank you to Lara, our Gardener, for bringing in 2 caterpillars for us to observe their lifecycle as we plan our very own caterpillar and butterfly rehabilitation garden. We have based some of our experiences around the popular text, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Children have been engaged in sequencing the story and we plan to extend that further with the use of puppets to retell the story in their own words. The children have been fascinated to learn that a caterpillar turns into a cocoon/chrysalis and then hatches as a butterfly. Today we were so lucky to witness one of our butterflies emerging from it's chrysalis. We have had the chrysalis at kindy for 2 weeks now. The butterfly is a female Orchard Swallowtail.

15.01.2022 Lara visited us at kindy to give us a SHOW experience to celebrate what would traditionally be show time in Tully! Lara brought some animals that we might see if we went to the show and she dressed in her clown costume. We saw a turtle, kittens, chicks and a chicken, guinea pigs and Lara’s dog Polly. Polly did a trick for us and she wore a costume too. We looked at the animals and then we each gave them a gentle pat. We sat and listened to Lara and waited for her instructions... on how to handle the animals so we didn’t frighten them. We held the baby chicks on our lap. It was a great morning meeting all the different animals! After we touched all the animals we washed our hands with soap and water to keep healthy and clean! Providing learning opportunities to raise awareness of children’s own culture supports children to develop a confident self identity. QKLG Identity. Children are developing a sense of connectedness to their world. This connectedness helps them to relate to the values, traditions and practices of their families, kindergarten, community and the wider world.
