24.01.2022 Words cannot express the feeling of support from all of you. The word thank-you just doesn’t seem enough. When a public negative comment is made towards a business, the ripple effect can be huge. It not only affected me; it affected my children, my staff, and my community. I deal with these comments on a day to day basis, but when it is on social media it just hits harder and I cannot defend myself. ... I’ve never had so many comments on a single post during the four years I’ve run this page. I know I have the support of you all, but I don’t think you all understand how much your messages and comments has meant to me and my staff.

23.01.2022 Tulum Store is closed for our belated annual winter break and maintenance. We will reopen on Thursday 22nd October. Thank you everyone for your support during these trying 6 months. We live in an awesome community and it is because of you, our fammunity, all local businesses will come through to the other side of this mayhem year. Thank you x

21.01.2022 If anyone wants to order Baker Boys bread for Christmas Day, I can get it ordered for Christmas Eve pick up. They have a delicious range of croissants, sour doughs and ciabatta. Although we are not open Christmas Eve, I am still taking orders for an arranged pick up time.... If anyone is interested please email [email protected] Catherine

18.01.2022 Thankyou to all my customers for a busy holiday season. After 31 days straight, I am taking off my 4am wake up alarm and having 2 days off. I also want to thank my amazing staff. I am so blessed. They kept our community fed, caffeinated and made sure I was not over working myself. ... We will be back on Friday, see you then. Trading Hours as of Friday 29th January: Tuesday: Closed Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 8-3pm (kitchen open 8-2:30pm) Saturday and Sunday: 8-5pm (kitchen open 8-4:30pm)

16.01.2022 With the rise in cases and more visitors to the Peninsula, I feel it is best that we close on a Sunday. Originally, I did weekend hours for my regular customers, however, 95% of the customers are not from the area. Generally, I would love more business, however during this pandemic, the health and safety for my regular customers and my family is paramount over profit.

14.01.2022 Try eating one of these with a mask on...

12.01.2022 As of today, we are reducing our hours of operation. We will be closing at 3pm on a Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and normal Friday & Saturday closing of 8pm. With the world changing every 24 hours, we may have to reassess our trading hours in the future. We are all part of an amazing and supportive community who looks out for each other. We will all get through this by being there for each other.... Stay safe and well. Catherine & staff See more

12.01.2022 I had such a good day planned for today, my day off, besides getting orders done for the shop and behind the scenes stuff, but that all changed when I was alerted to a Facebook post on the Balnarring Residents Group questioning my trading hours and stating such a shame for us as a community to not have a reliable little general store It would have been nice and respectful for people who go on social media to have a face to face conversation with a business owner and ask a...re you doing ok rather than cowardly questioning the running of a business on social media. I have had a few phone conversations from concerned locals who thought I was closed permanently, just from 1 miss leading and irresponsible post. My hours are clearly stated on the fence, google and our website, always have been. So, thank you to my loyal and appreciative locals, day trippers and weekenders who know and appreciate that we have kept our community caffeinated and fed as best as we can during a world frickin pandemic. Oh and our Chip Club members, yes I said it publicly, thank you for being part of the secret Friday night fish & chips, all 94 of you, since March. It will be back in February, I promise. So, rather than question the running of a business ask a business, are you doing ok So yes, we are doing ok. We are short staffed like a lot of hospitality businesses, THAT is why we are doing the best we can with our opening hours. I would love to open on a Sunday but I don’t have the staff to do so. Just like all the cafes in Balnarring, they too have reduced their operating hours. Even our Community bank has reduced hours. Are any of those businesses questioned ? We all have to be financially sustainable to get through the coming months because things nationally will be different once jobkeeper and jobseeker is done and dusted. I would never walk into a business and question their operating hours or tell them what they should be doing, or even post about it on social media. It is wrong and nosy and definitely unacceptable when businesses are recovering from the effects of a global pandemic and state lockdown, especially when I see those same people drive past when we are open and don’t even support us in the first place, pre and post pandemic. Going forward our hours over the season are reduced, once again because we are short staffed and it is not that easy to get experienced staff, if anyone was thinking get some staff So, there will be no night trading over the season, our hours are: Closed Christmas Eve Christmas Day Boxing Day Open 27th Dec- 26th Jan 6.30am - 5pm This is our 5th season and first without enough staff. Oh, and I sell lots of Hawaiian shirts by the way, and I do sell cans of baked beans. For the record, this ain’t my first rodeo.

12.01.2022 With all the bad, sad and devastating news that fills our lives past, present and the months to come, I want to share something loving, beautiful and caring that I have been on the receiving end of. Last week I received a lovely basket of fruit and vegetables from Meg to say thank you for bringing us happiness and laughter to our community This week I received a thank you card organised by Glenda and Antony Bayley from themselves and customers they approached over the last... few weeks to include their names and dog names. We also received from Will Palmer an amazing shell scene of animals surfing he made for us as a thank you. Just this afternoon I went to my letterbox and found a card with a kind note and some pineapples, and I’m not talking about the fruit. I just want to say thank you to everyone who has kept us going and sane through this ever so strange time. My parents also want to thank you as they know what an amazing, caring and protective community we live in. I know we keep you all caffeinated, choco-anated, scone-anated, cake-anated and daily we are thanked for being open, but I really want you to know how much we appreciate you all. Usually we are on our winter break and in Hawaii this time of the year, but you all daily bring us Aloha to Balnarring Beach pre, present and post lockdown. Thank you Catherine xx See more

12.01.2022 Thank you to our family community Fammunity who have supported us since the mayhem started........... and unfortunately it continues. So, we will be open for Newspapers, Baker Boys Bread, Coffee, Milk and toasties Monday-Friday 8am-11am Saturday & Sunday 8am-12noon.... Sending y’all virtual hugs. See more

10.01.2022 With so much discussion about toilet paper, there is one that needs to be had. When you replace your toilet roll, are you a fringe or a mullet?

02.01.2022 I just came back from a very busy Balnarring IGA and I just want to give a shout out to the awesome staff. They have always done an amazing job but since pandemic, an outstanding job. They are not always thanked and cop a bit of unnecessarily flak (not cool) even if it is just for making sure we are COVID safe and enter & exit at the assigned doors. Thank you Thank you ...
