21.01.2022 Introducing our resident crew for anniversary week! On the baby bass, the heartbeat of our rhythm section; Mr. Juan "Juancho" Osegueda! Juancho has been with our family from almost the very beginning, you'd have to go all the way back to July 1997 when the first iteration of revolutionary local orquesta "La Gran Banda of Melbourne" made its debut at the beloved now-defunct Bullring!... Juan originally hails from El Salvador and emigrated to Australia in 1989 with his family in search of a better life. Juan's perfomance highlights have been many throughout the years; having started his career in Australia as a guitarist playing the requinto - a small traditional acoustic lead guitar - in "Cuarteto Los Románticos" performing trio music and eventually moving on to "La Gran Banda" where he played salsa, merengue and cumbia on the electric bass for many years and had the opportunity to play at many seminal venues within Melbourne and even toured interstate with the group! From there on he made the transition to upright bass after joining traditional Cuban ensemble Kenny López & The Havana Connection. It was through this band he had also been given the opportunity and honour of backing legendary Cuban sonero Félix Baloy throughout his 2009 Australian tour. Some other projects he's participated in since have been, Vocez Torogóz, Grupo Cacique, Conga Band, Sangre Nueva, Kunataki, Grupo Sazón and freelancing with many others. He currently holds a full-time place in both Tumbao Social & @mariachilosromanticos as a guitarist/bassist when required! We're grateful to have had him with us throughout this journey!

As a drummer, multi-percussionist, vocalist, and producer, with an affinity for rhythms of the world, he has had an extensive career as a performer, recording artist, and educator. From age 16, Toby has travelled the world earning a reputation as a stylistically diverse musician. 15.01.2022 Celebrating our 2-year milestone by giving our resident crew a little bit of love! Today it’s lead vocalist, Mr. Eddie Estrada! A first-generation Australian born in Melbourne to Colombian parents, Eddie’s musical journey started as a 5-year-old kid; brought up in a musical environment and growing up admiring the greats through VHS concerts and cassette tapes brought to his homeland which included Fania All-Stars, Fruko y sus Tesos, Grupo Niche, Hector Lavoe, Joe Arroyo, Osca...r D’León among others who would become his childhood heroes. At age 14, he began participating in singing competitions at his high school performing R&B music as well as beginning to dabble in percussion and learning some basic keyboard. At age 18, not knowing anyone in the Latin scene, he hopped up on stage for a jam on bongos and backing vocals with local legend Gualberto Casas and following that event was brought into Victor y sus Muñecos as a corista for a few gigs. This led to him finding his calling as a salsa singer. From there onwards until 2011, he participated in new local bands such as SON DE LA CALLE & SONGOSORONGO still honing his voice within the genre. Then in 2011, along with his brother and father; formed the popular salsa band Orquesta La 45' which peaked in work from 2014-17, performing up to 4-5 times a week at varying locations. Throughout his career, he’s also freelanced with bands such as Del Barrio, Quarter Street, SALCEDO, MALO MALO, BAHÍA, LA GRAN BANDA, PELIGRO and also contributed to the foundation of popular Grupo Vallenato Cumva from 2015-2018. Eddie’s had multiple highlights throughout his musical journey; having opened for artists such as Fania Records legend Joe Bataan, Los 50 De Joselito Willie Colón & FONSECA, Colombian reggaeton artist Reykon El Lider, Jerau y los de Adentro, Grupo Niche: Página Oficial (w Salcedo), El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico (w/ Del Barrio) and also had the opportunity to perform as a backing vocalist for " Maelo Ruiz " in 2012. After taking a 12-month hiatus from performing, he joined Tumbao Social in 2018 where his experience and consolidation as a vocalist/songwriter takes him on a new journey. And although his speciality is in salsa, he can adapt to almost any genre.
15.01.2022 Working on some new songs!
12.01.2022 Celebrating our 2-year milestone by giving our resident crew a little bit of love! Today we're celebrating one of our most recent additions, our other lead vocalist, Sebastián Lugo! A native of Villa del Río (Bogotá) Colombia, 22-year old Seb's musical career begins back home, where he was influenced by rock, electronic music and (secretively) reggaeton.... He was part of a rock band playing synths in Colombia for three years, and then made the move to Australia in 2015 where within a year he quickly made an impact on the scene, singing and playing guitar. He's played acoustic shows from Station 59 to the State Library so chances are if you've been in Melbourne City sometime in the last 3 years, you've seen him around serenading the public! Seb joined Tumbao Social in September 2019, where he quickly made the transition to a salsa singer and has since become an invaluable member of the team with both his vocal and creative abilities. Seb's musical influence is eclectic, ranging from rock to indie to salsa to lo-fi hip hop and many more! His other regular projects include working with producer @anunnaki_official, (with whom he's just released a single) and live Reggaeton band Lo Que Faltaba!

09.01.2022 Celebrating our 2-year milestone by giving our resident crew a little bit of love! This time, on the congas/tumbadoras, the tumbao behind Tumbao; percussion whiz Mr. Antonio Bonilla. A founding member of the group, Antonio, the youngest of 8 siblings in a musical family is also originally from El Salvador and emigrated to Australia in 1990 during his early teens.... It wasn't much longer until his musical career began, joining his older brother’s band ESPÍRITU LATINO. He started out not on percussion, but playing saxophone, as the band already had an established percussion section in its original lineup. He played saxophone with the band from 1990-1993 and also had a brief stint with the merengue group FURIA from 1993-1994. In 1994, ESPÍRITU LATINO was rebooted as a band whose core was made up entirely of the musical Bonilla brothers. It was during this time that Antonio would switch to playing percussion, being inspired by the sounds of the elegant salsa orchestras of the golden age and it was here that he would remain until 1997, when both he and his brother Freddy (pianist/singer) decided to embark on a new venture and founded LA GRAN BANDA. LA GRAN BANDA debuted at the now-defunct Bullring in July 1997 where they held a residency for nearly 10 years playing merengue, cumbia and salsa as well as playing venues and festivals throughout Melbourne and also interstate. They remained an active band until 2010, however Antonio would remain active participating in multiple projects, such as Conga Band, Sangre Nueva and also among them the two-time Clave Contra Clave (Live Latin Band Competition) runners-up PELIGRO (2011 & 2013) where he had the opportunity alongside the band to be the opening act for the 5-time Latin Grammy winning artist FONSECA and the legendary Willie Colón on their joint 2012 Australian tour. Antonio has been a key member in Tumbao Social’s history from its founding where he started as the timbalero to today where he holds the position of conguero. His musical input and signature swing have been invaluable to us as a group!
08.01.2022 Celebrating our 2-year milestone by giving our resident crew a little bit of love! Today we're honouring our sole woodwind; on baritone sax - Jack Beeche! Originally from the Blue Mountains (NSW), Jack is an Australian saxophonist based in Melbourne. ... After graduating from the ANU school of music in 2004 he moved to London where he immersed himself in the local jazz scene, attending jam sessions, gigging and performing throughout the UK and Europe. During this period he also played in ensembles ranging from jazz to cabaret, ska and hip hop. He regularly travelled, studying with top international jazz musicians, searching for his own approach to improvised jazz. After becoming highly influenced by alto saxophonist Lee Konitz who strives to improvise entirely in the moment; he returned to Australia in 2009 where he settled in Melbourne. Jack works regularly with jazz, latin and commercial ensembles in Melbourne, performing at festivals and touring nationally. In 2015 he completed his Masters of music performance at Monash University and released his first album Golden Blue. His saxophone ranges from loud, rock fuelled intensity in bands like Tim Willis’s - The End, Jessica Carlton’s ISSHO and Gareth Hill’s Slow Code; to lyrical, interactive conversations, heard on his first release Golden Blue, 2016’s Beeche / Magnusson and his chamber trio Neyland / Attiche / Beeche. Jack's been with Tumbao Social since the band's inception, and has contributed greatly with not just his unique sound but also a handful of his instrumental compositions adapted into the band's Latin jazz style. His favourite drink is gin, and a year ago on Thursday he became a father to twins which he regularly uses as his excuse to duck rehearsals and gigs.

01.01.2022 Hey y'all. We, like all our fellow musicians and arts/entertainment cohorts have been doing it rough with the cancellation/postponing of all events due to the risk of COVID-19 transmission. However, that hasn't demotivated us to keep working and honing our crafts individually from the comfort and safety of our homes and it definitely hasn't ruined our positivity and plans toward the future!... As soon as this risk is managed, you can be sure we'll come back stronger and more swingin' than ever with new songs, new looks and exciting new projects. But in the meantime while everything's on hold, please stay at home for the safety of yourselves and others, and enjoy this clip from our last event at @baropenfitzroy featuring special guest Wally Casas of @delbarriomelb! See you all soon!
