10.01.2022 Last weekend staged the first art workshop for the year for the Tumut Art Society with the presentation and tutelage of renowned Watercolourist and Acrylic artist Helen Cottle from Victoria. 16 participants learnt, laughed and painted with fabulous results. As part of ‘Workshops on Wheels’, a collaborative venture by Tumut Art Society, Temora & District Visual Arts Centre and The Arts Centre Cootamundra. This was the first in a series of 3 workshops offered to members of the ...three art societies in 2020 made possible with a CASP Grant from the Regional Arts fund. The aim is to provides a series of traveling professionally led visual arts workshops accessible to our in need rural communities. This collaborative 'sister societies' group, aims to promote and provide our rural communities access to a diverse range of arts programs promoting current art practices. Professional leading tutors in their genre, for example acrylic painting, printmaking and watercolour will present at each of the venues in the above towns at a minimum cost to the attendees. It is envisaged that each group will attend the others workshops to boost the flagging numbers that usually prohibit well known tutors to attend country towns. The effects of the current drought and now fires on our communities is evident in the low numbers attending full priced workshops throughout the region. Workshop coordinator and local art tutor Jennie Forster commented on the program, ‘Thriving art communities offer support artistically, socially and mentally to all members and the broader community in which we live’ ‘We find that sharing ideas improves interest, enthusiasm and resources. Members really enjoy and benefit greatly from professional instructions provided by visiting artists’ Jenny Crain the President of the Tumut art society fully supports the collaborative venture, ‘It has been shown that a vibrant, creative community is a healthy one and allows people to express their ideas, opinions and creativity. Other important benefits are the mingling of the creative communities, cross fertilisation of ideas, development of new creative programs and combined exhibitions. The skills and techniques learnt by our members can be used in programs for school groups, school holiday activities and wider community applications’. If you have any questions or would like to be involved in the future, pop into the 5Ways gallery open Thursday to Monday 10am 3pm or visit our website www.tumutart.com.au
