25.01.2022 We've been reviewing our photo vaults & have come across some truly memorable pix from Tunarama festivals of the past. Over the next few weeks, we'll post some of these memories for you all to enjoy. This one is from the 1978 Town Parade. If you have any further info about it, please let us know.

23.01.2022 Something else from the archive. The original #creepyclown from the 1962 town parade. We'd love to know who this is & how an entire generation of children avoided nightmares...

18.01.2022 Great day at the opening of the RSL Museum for our reigning Tunarama Ambassador, Belinda Currie. Here she is with The Hon. Steven Marshall MP, Premier of S.A. If you'd like Belinda to attend your event, please let us know. She's keen as mustard to finally be able to get out & about!

15.01.2022 Hello friends. Today we were expecting to get the final sign off from Health SA to go ahead with Tunarama 2021 as we had met every condition required to hold a safe festival. Sadly, the COVID situation has deteriorated in Adelaide so we have to wait another 2 weeks to see if we can proceed. Our behind-the-scenes work continues unabated and we will do everything in our control to get this thing off the ground. As soon as Health SA give us the green light, we'll let you know.

08.01.2022 Some of you may have seen an article in todays paper questioning as to whether the 2021 Tunarama Festival will be going ahead. We have a meeting with representatives from Health SA this Friday (13/11) to finalise our plan. We are very confident that the Festival will be able to be delivered with the appropriate COVID 19 management practices in place. You may have also noticed that MP Mark Purnell MLC made some incorrect remarks on his official FB page about the tuna being use...d in the photo. We have been in contact with the MP and he has now officially revised his remarks to more accurately reflect the fact that no dead tuna have been used in the Tuna Toss since 2018. Thank you to everyone who posted in support of Tunarama & the Tuna Toss in general, including our good friends at #asbtia Unfortunately, the journalist did not request a current photo to illustrate the article and used an old file image instead. For those that may be concerned, since 2018 all the 'tuna' used in the Tuna Toss heats & finals are made of rubber. The Salmon Toss competitors use a canvas bag filled with sand that looks like a salmon. The Prawn Toss competitors use a little rubber prawn See more

07.01.2022 Hi everyone. We are aware that there is a lot of speculation about what Tunarama 2021 will look like, especially in these very difficult times. In the face of this global pandemic, running large, public events has become a monumental challenge just to get anything off the ground. The work happening behind the scenes simply to comply with a vast array of specific government rules and regulations is mind-boggling. We are all very sad that some of our much-loved, larger events h...ave to take a back seat for 2021. However, Tunarama is a major economic driver for our region and it will be far better for the local economy & our community - especially after so many months of uncertainty - to have a weekend of activities than to throw in the towel and do nothing. Tourists are likely to descend on the town in droves as Tunarama may well be the first large-scale event in SA since this whole sorry COVID-19 business started back in March. Be assured, we are doing everything we can to make this Festival the best it can be and also be assured that, as long as the world changes back to something akin to 'normal' at some point in 2021, the things we can't do this year will be back in 2022. If you want to know anything, please ask us, we’re more than happy to tell you what we know. Please understand that our circumstances change almost daily - we're doing our very best with what we know today and we hope you will support us on this journey. See more

07.01.2022 Was lovely for Tunarama folks to be invited to the official opening of the Leisure Centre today. What a fantastic building! What a story to get it to where it is! It's an absolutely first-class sporting facility. Congratulations to everyone involved over the last (many) years!!

05.01.2022 Friends, supporters & sponsors. It is with a hugely heavy heart that the PLTI Committee & our Coordinators have made the gut wrenching decision to cancel Tunarama 2021. There are a number of reasons for this & the decision was NOT made because of this temporary lockdown. We have serious, on-going concerns about the safety of the community, & our older volunteers, given the number of people we attract to the Festival. Another important issue concerns the restrictions around ga...therings that will likely stay in place for some time. Once the '1 person per 4 square metre' rule was reintroduced on Monday, we knew the event could be in trouble. We work very hard to ensure many elements of the Festival remain free admission & by adding a handful of ticketed events to the program, we are able to earn a small income to offset many of those costs. The costs haven't changed but our capacity for income has diminished considerably. Even though this current outbreak may be quickly contained, no-one can guarantee that it won't happen again leading up to the Festival nor can anyone guarantee that those restrictions will be removed. We've lost critical planning time that can't be replaced - the timing of this has been dreadful for our Festival. It is also grossly unfair to suppliers, sponsors, stallholders, advertisers & visitors alike to be left hanging in a sort of limbo as to whether they should plan to be here or not. Today has been awful for everyone but WE WILL BE BACK! Assuming this nasty COVID business is sorted sometime in 2021, prepare yourself for a fantastic event in 2022 with ALL the bells, whistles and traditions returned in force. All our paid staff have been stood down til January but we are monitoring emails & our phone. THANK YOU to all our wonderful sponsors who are being so supportive of our decision. If you haven't heard from us yet, please be patient - we are still working to contact you. Please stay safe out there & we look forward to seeing you all again very soon. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. See more
