04.01.2022 REMEMERANCE DATE 11-11-2020 Receipt of the News at Tungamah. Great joy was manifested in Tungamah on Tuesday when the news came through that the armistice had been signed. A public holiday was soon proclaimed, and a gathering took place at the Shire hall, which was well attended. In the evening a procession was formed of school children and a number of adults, others of the latter accompanying the procession in spirit by walking along the footpath.... Plenty of noise was made on various instruments; a huge piece of blazing hessian enlivened matters; and once on Church Hill, a large crowd watched a big bonfire with an effigy of the Kaiser, presumably, on top. Messrs Knight and Rumble contributed speeches, and the latter lollies also, to the school children. Various patriotic airs enlivened things, and altogether quite a festive time was spent.
