23.01.2022 When our teens come up against problems, our instincts as parents often tell us to focus on a seemingly-obvious fix. However, if we explore the feelings behind the issues and make it clear that we are listening and understanding, it helps teens to calm down and recognize the problem themselves. Here’s a funny little clip that reminds us of this. It’s not about the nail!

12.01.2022 Did you know that we have developed a modified Tuning in to Kids program, specifically relevant to dads? Dads TIK has been strongly endorsed by fathers who have attended, with feedback that a fathers-only option is a very welcome addition to the parenting programs currently on offer. A randomised control trial of the program showed positive outcomes including improving parenting, parent-child relationships and child behaviour. We have a half-day professional training coming up in Melbourne, for any of you trained TIK facilitators who would like to hone your wonderful skills just for the dads out there - have a look!

Instead of building their willingness to engage, listen, and learn from you, tight rules and harsh punishments are more likely to create anger and resentment and leave kids feeling misunderstood or unheard. Countless individuals and organisations continue to do exceptional work with our Tuning in to Kids suite of parenting programs - we thank everyone for their ongoing enthusiasm and support. A great example of this is the fantastic achievements of Yarra Communities that Care. CTC has been an incredibly successful collaboration between 24 agencies, delivering 18 Tuning in to Kids & Teens parenting groups within the City of Yarra in Melbourne, with nin...e of these groups tailored specifically to to the CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) community.
