The proven result is an Australian Standard has now been issued for the Use And Installation of Turfgrass As an Erosion, Nutrient and Sediment Control Measure that is now available to Austra...lian specifiers. This Australian Standard was prepared by Committee BD-107, Turf. It was approved on behalf of the Council of Standards Australia on 21 June 2017. both on farm and scieThis Australian Standard was published on 30 June 2017. Natural turfgrass traps and removes dust and dirt from the air. 6. 250 m of natural turfgrass can absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release enough oxygen for a family of 4. 7. Natural turfgrass in an average sized lawn of a residential property has the cooling effect of about 9 tonnes of air-conditioning. 8. On a hot day a natural Turfgrass lawn will be at lease 15% C cooler than asphalt and 8% C cooler than bare soil. 9. Natural turfgrass is effective in reducing noise and proved to be more sound absorbent than a heavy carpet or felt pad. 1, A good fine textured lawn has it least 10,000 shoots and over 5,000,000 km of roots per square metre. 24.01.2022 Natural turfgrass uses less water than you think. With the many different turf types and varieties available to choose from, many drought and shade tolerant and water efficient options are available. Discuss this with your Turf Queensland producer. Some turf growers utilise recycled water and that can also be utilised in residential properties. Natural turfgrass can be more water efficient by incorporating compost and all water saving additives ask your supplier for advice.

23.01.2022 The terms "Accreditation" and "Certification" are sometimes used interchangeably, however, they are not synonymous. Certification is used for verifying that personnel (individuals) have adequate credentials to practice certain disciplines, as well as for verifying that products meet certain requirements. Accreditation is used to verify that organisations (companies) have an appropriate quality management system and can properly perform certain test methods (e.g., ISO test methods) and calibration parameters according to their scopes of Accreditation on-farm. Turf Queensland's TURF ACCREDITATION PROGRAM "TAP" falls directly under Accreditation.

23.01.2022 As most people would know erosion control and sediment movement is critical to our clean water results for our catchments and waterways including the Great Barrier Reef. Specifiers and Tenderers must take note. To assist andAustralian Standard has been developed AS5181:2016 to provide the appropriate knowledge and assistance to specifiers.

15.01.2022 NOW SOME GOOD NEWS In 2016 Dr Geoff Beasley from the Louisiana State University provided useful information on why so many existing levee banks failed in New Orleans as result of hurricane Katrina in 2005 that resulted in 1464 deaths. The investigation was targeted at preventing this tragedy from repeating itself and the research was carried out over 3000 miles of levee banks in the New Orleans area. The analysis showed that the conditions resulted in the erosion of the back ...side of the levee banks that caused these structures to fail. Various levee bank strengthening options, including concrete and turfgrass were trial against each other. The sheer weight of concrete resulted in concrete levy structure is sinking into the soft Louisiana ground, hence reducing their overall effectiveness. Initially, based on a relatively small US$8000 investment, natural turfgrass grown through turf reinforcing mats was shown to be effective erosion control agent and mechanism for stabilising and reinforcing levee banks. More extensive research was then commission and conducted at the University of Colorado where it was found that Couch grass covered slopes, ground through turf reinforcing mats, could withstand more than 12 hours of constant, high velocity, flooding without sustaining any damage. As a result 4.5 mill yd. or US$300 million worth of Couch grass is being used to strengthen the 3000 miles of levee banks in the state of Louisiana.

14.01.2022 TURFGRASS TEMPERATURES Ralph Egues, the Executive Director for the National Hispanic Landscape Alliance delivered the following message at the 2016 Turf Producers International (TPI) Conference in Houston Texas in February. A number of USA University research projects have indicated the following examples regarding heat generation between natural turfgrass and fake synthetic grass. As an example, Ralph reported on a Clemson University study that measured the temperature of va...rious ground covers on a 34 C day. The surface temperatures ranged from 94 to 165 degrees Fahrenheit, being: Water = 34 C Bermuda grass (Cooch) = 40 C Sand = 55.5 C Asphalt = 58 C Synthetic turf = 74 C In addition, researchers at Brigham Young University, Utah, found that the surface temperature of an on campus synthetic football field averaged 47 C (with a daily high of 69 C ), while an adjacent natural grass field registered a surface temperature average of 25.5 C (with a daily high of 31.5 C ). Also, practicing on an artificial field can increase the incidence of heat stroke, muscle cramping, and fatigue.
