23.01.2022 The MRC seem quite determined to push on with the sale of Sandown, regardless of what issues arise. They have even threatened to pull out of the Caulfield Racecourse Reserve project if they don't get what they want. "A club spokesman confirmed it was also considering pulling the reins on its plans for a $570 million sports and entertainment precinct at Caulfield Racecourse, which it also operates, if it was affected by the tax. The club loses about $5 million a year on its Sa...ndown operation." 22.01.2022 We have a large form guide archive going back to the late 1980s which we will start sharing in a weekly post. Here is MAHOGANY's first start (drifted from 5-1 to 12-1!) to finish 4th, won at 5-4 by 4 lengths the start after, and his Caulfield Guineas win in 1993. We photographed a lot of the feature races and famous horses a few years back as we were going to use them on the website, but never did. If there is anything you particularly want to see, let us know. (and allow tim...e for a lot of moving of boxes for more obscure stuff) (this all started on Twitter today when someone asked for the results of a mid-week Flemington meeting from September 1992 - no problem!)

21.01.2022 FLEMINGTON: MACKINON STAKES - 7th November 2020 Race day update with tips and suggested bets for Flemington 07/11/2020 Clear day with light winds and we should get even racing, probably coming off the rails later in the day which will give those running on their chance. Looks to be a keen betting day and quite a few noticeable betting moves overnight, with horses like Race 3: 8-MORVADA, Race 5: 6-TRUE SELF and Race 8:2-FIFTY STARS coming in for good moves. Think punters are k...een to have a go today. One interesting item we didn't mention in the form preview, the Mackinnon is notorious for being won by leaders, with 7 of the last 10 winners leading, horses such as SO YOU THINK, GLASS HARMONIUM, SIDE GLANCE, GAILO CHOP, AWESOME ROCK, TRAP FOR FOOLS and MAGIC WAND winning. Fair enough the race used to be run on Derby Day where the racing pattern could favour those on speed, but even since the race was moved 3 of the last 4 winners have lead all the way. Which makes us think we need to give the 10-SHOUT THE BAR a bit of a closer look in this. As started in the tips, with the Best Roughie out swap in the Race 9: 13-MARIAMIA and make the box quinella 3,7,8,12,13. Good luck! 20.01.2022 Some suggested bets for Derby and Oaks trials today at Flemington Wednesday 23/09/2020 Note that the rail is only OUT 4M today, whereas normally for this meeting the rail is well out (around 13M) and the racing pattern favours those on-speed, so we should get an even racing pattern today. There are some nice each way bets later in the day and suspect we will see a few long shots pop up into the finish in relatively big fields.... WIN: Race 3:4-THE BRUMBY ROUGH: Race 5: 10-IKNEWHEWASMINE, QUINELLA: 4,10,11,12,16 boxed EACH WAY: Race 6: 12-REUBER EACH WAY: Race 7: 12-MELODEON, QUINELLA 12#2,5,11,14 EACH WAY: Race 8: 2-TITAN BLINDERS, QUINELLA 2#8,10,17 TURF DELI WONDER BET: TRIFECTA: Race 8: 2,8 / 2,5,8,10,17/1,2,5,6,8,10,17 x $5 = 12.5% In Race 7, the 12-MELODEON looks a nice each way bet at around $10, well drawn, much better off for the last run stepping up sharply in distance and should settle on-speed here. Back each way, and anchor in a value quinella with the 2-DOGMATIC, the leader the 5-NUDGE BAR at odds who may ran a better race leading today, the frustrating 11-AFFAIR TO REMEMBER down in class, and the consistent 14-SUKOOT. In Race 8 the 2-TITAN BLINDERS is our main bet of the day at around $12, but we appreciate the short priced favourite the 8-CORDILLA is going to be hard to beat. The (2) is fitter for the two runs in, should have won at MV 1st up when couldn't get out for a while on the turn, and then chased hard behind an all the way winner last start. Will push forward here and solid track and distance stats and just looks ready to win. Back each way, and save on a quinella with the (8), the 10-EARS THE BARMAN who is racing really well and looks over the odds, and the on-speed roughie the 17-UNFAIR DISMISSAL with the apprentice claim. Worth taking a wide trifecta also with the two main chances to win and you can probably go two out on the (2) and (8) in the last leg of the quaddie if you are taking one.

20.01.2022 CAULFIELD: UNDERWOOD STAKES 26th September 2020 Tips and suggested bets for Caulfield 26/09/2020 Plenty of rain over night and track is down to a SOFT(6). Looks like it has cleared, but still a cold and windy day and they will probably be coming off the rails in the straight so don't be scared to back outside barriers and swoopers later in the day.... We still can't believe the odds on Race 8: 8-HARBOUR VIEWS in the Underwood who we had as the main danger to the favourite. We have lost one of our main bets to scratchings and our suggested quaddie has taken a whack, so substitute in 1-PRAGUE in the first leg and 8-MOZZIE MONSTER in the second leg. 15.01.2022 CAULFIELD: RUPERT CLARKE STAKES 19th September 2020 Race day update with tips and suggested bets for Caulfield 19/09/2020 Remember to give us a great big care emoji to show how much you care, or make a token comment (e.g. "P" for Punt) to make sure you get notifications during the day when we post updates and to make our posts continue to appear on your newsfeed.... We are going to start posting a new section, Quaddie Tactics in the Saturday race day posts starting today. Calm weather today, although the wind is supposed to pick up later on, but we should get an even racing pattern. Few points to note, today is 30 years since the evergreen D.Oliver won his first Group 1 in the Rupert Clarke on SUBMARINER in 1990. Extraordinary effort, and sure to be lots backing his rides today, especially in the feature races. The Naturalism (MRC Foundation Cup) gives the winner entry in the Caulfield Cup, so a few will be more forward than the form suggests if they need to qualify, and note the strong support for the 3-DR DRILL in this race who fits this criteria. We thought the odds about our top pick 13-PRETTY BRAZEN were all wrong at $18 when we did the form, and she is into $13 this morning and suspect will be under $10 come race time. We have lost our Best Roughie to scratchings in Race 2, so unofficially swap in the top pick in that race the 12-MONTENEGRO MAN. Quaddie Tactics: We have already covered most of this in the suggested bets where we have taken a quaddie this week. The first and last legs look the narrow legs, and think you can narrow the first leg down to just 6-AGREEABLE, 2-ALDENSFIELD and the last leg to the two class sprinters 2-HUMMA HUMMA, 6-LYRE although maybe you could throw in a value runner like the 1-SPANISH WHISPER to have a value approximate going into the last leg. The middle legs - go wide as you can afford, that is where we need to find some $10 and $20 winners to turn this into a quaddie worth getting (we don't get out of bed for quaddies under 20%). 05.01.2022 This is a busy week for punters, we have the Derby and Oaks Trials tomorrow midweek at Flemington, the Moir Stakes Friday night at Moonee Valley and the Underwood Stakes Saturday at Caulfield. We will post some quick tips for Flemington tomorrow and do a full form preview for Friday night and Saturday. For those stuck in Melbourne curfew with literally nothing else better to do, we will also do race by race bets for the Friday night meeting if you want to login and play along.... The tips so far this year have an pretty abysmal strike rate, but the suggested bets are finding a value collect most weeks and are just ahead (and probably unlucky not to be well ahead with two costly head bobs the last two weeks). Really not much to report this morning, the betting markets look a little quiet and seems like everyone is holding back to see what the weather does.
