25.01.2022 Just wanted to share these lovely tunes (The Bellharbour / Sheehan's) played by Antóin Mac Gabhann and Caitlín Nic Gabhann in tribute to Chris Droney, one of the greats of Irish music and concertina playing who passed recently aged 95.

24.01.2022 Sydney's "Grand Old Man of Irish Music" passes It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the death of Kevin Doyle, affectionately known as Sydney's grand old man of Irish music. Kevin came to Australia in the 1950s and from that time was a tireless worker in promoting Irish traditional music and musicians in Sydney with a dedication born out of a genuine love of the music. Kevin's unique connections with the past and his many valuable links to the Irish tradition includi...ng with the legendary Joe Cooley gave validation to and helped inform Sydney's early trad Irish music scene. Kevin was a regular at sessions with his accordion and also founder of Fleadh Nua, a successful Festival held in the Snowy Mountains and then in Goulburn in the early 2000s. In 2009 Kevin received the Living Tradition Award recognising his contributions to traditional Irish music. On presenting this award the then Irish Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Máirtín Ó Fainín (pictured presenting the Award to Kevin) said "No-one is more deserving of this than Kevin Doyle, a true and faithful son of Ireland and Australia's premiere promoter of Irish music". 21.01.2022 For all those missing festivals and dancing and sessions and everything we can't have because of COVID here's something to brighten your day and you will see Australia and maybe you'll recognise some dancers that you know Margaret Ellen Winnett and Lisa Winnett. Just love this altogether.

20.01.2022 If you're after some great music for New Year's Eve tune in to Sydney Folk Festival's YouTube channel at 8pm tomorrow night (31 Dec) for the 1 hour Finale Concert celebrating YOSA (Year of Scotland in Australia).

20.01.2022 Not Irish tunes but a lovely song from Rosie and Nigel. Rosie McDonald especially has been such a wonderful supporter of TWF we wanted to share it as part of our #MakeMusicDay. Thank you both.

19.01.2022 A very big thank you to everyone (Go Raibh Maith Agaibh) who took part in our #MakeMusicDay #MakeMusicOz #AllDayIrishSession Simply Brilliant! Christine Morphett and Telenn Tri for their beautiful tunes; Rowena Harding for the Bowning session pic; Coolfinn Mac for the lovely tunes; Emily Sullivan and the Canberra English Session (playing Irish tunes) pic; Saoirse Oz for their beautiful songs and music (a whole 24mins - Wow!); Margaret Ellen Winnett for the COVID Safe Ceili dancing to Coast Ceili Band with Bill Winnett; ElizabethAnn O'Donovan for the Shamrock Session tune; Rosie McDonald & Nigel Lever for their lovely song; Kellie O Dwyer for their pic enjoying the music.

18.01.2022 Here's another offerring for our #MakeMusicDay event sent to us by Ann O'Donovan from the Shamrock session in Sydney's north. It's a snippet of Bill Harte's Jig with mugs of whiskey (???) at the end.

14.01.2022 14 years ago this weekend we held the very first Turning Wave Festival in the wonderful town of Gundagai. Our first guests from Ireland were Conor Keane (accordion) and Enda Ó Catháin (fiddle). It was a brilliant weekend altogether!

13.01.2022 Coast Ceili Band just posted this great COVID Safe Ceili video from Margaret and Bill Winnett for #MakeMusicDay. Around the house and mind the dresser...

10.01.2022 This weekend would have been Willie Week in Milltown Malbay. Because it’s been cancelled this year due to COVID School Samhraidh Willie Clancy is showing highlights. The Dance Recital highlights below feature Margaret and Bill Winnett two dedicated supporters of TWF. Their spot is about 8mins in. Enjoy.

09.01.2022 What a wonderful way to connect with our folk and trad music communities and to support the artists. We all need to work together. Turning Wave supports this great initiative by Folk Federation of NSW and Sydney Folk Festival.

01.01.2022 Dear Turning Wave friends of Kevin Doyle... Just letting you know that a Mass for Kevin will be held this Friday July 3 at midday. Due to COVID restrictions attendees need to be registered and should contact his family. As far as we are aware, unless otherwise advised, there is no option for zoom. TWF suggests that those of you who are musicians and wish to celebrate Kevin's life might play a set of tunes to honour his memory around midday this Friday. We suggest Cooley's Reel and the Wise Maid.
