15.01.2022 For those lucky enough to be at Tusk Highbar in Windsor last night, they got to witness a masterclass in world class Jazz artistry. Barney McAll (piano) and his amazing trio (Felix Boxsom: Drums and Phil Rex Bass) truly mesmerised the room with a broad selection of contemporary and classic Jazz, stretched to its limits with a passion rarely seen these days. This was musical artistry at the highest level. And we were blessed to be privy to it. We’ve all heard background pian...ists in bars and hotels providing an unobtrusive soundtrack to an environment where their job is to take a back seat to the chatter, food service or hotel guests waiting to check in. THIS WAS NOT THAT. Barney last night lured us into his world, bearing his soul, sharing his fearlessness and vulnerability. Then in moments of explosive, impassioned musical climaxes he threw our expectations around like a rag doll, only to catch them before they fell with a delicate embrace. Barney McAll, a descendant of a long but hallowed line of fearless, insatiable artists is one of the chosen ones. Yes he lives, performs in and draws inspiration from his environment in all its forms. He is a free spirit, who’s spent a life time stepping around the obvious in order to stretch the boundaries of his gifts. And gifted he is. The Barney McAll Trio will be performing again tonight at Tusk Highbar. Tusk Highbar Upstairs 67 Green st windsor. $20 door / 9pm-3am
