21.01.2022 TRANSITION TO HIGH SCHOOL - some tips. My daughter Hannah started High School this year. More traumatic for us than her. She seems all excited. So what can parents expect from high school ? MORE INDEPENDENCE - Teachers expect more self study . More travel time and earlier start. Increased academic workload.... SIGNS OF HIGH SCHOOL ANXIETY Not interested in going to School. Child reports they are sick often. Not eating or sleeping well. Changes in Behavior - Withdrawn or aggressive. SOME TIPS FOR PARENTS MAKING FRIENDS QUICKLY - MAKES A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. Especially if they are transitioning to a high school where none of their current friends attend. Teach them social skills - icebreakers and self introductions. REGULAR COMMUNICATION ESPECIALLY DURING THE FIRST MONTH - This provides you an opportunity to take immediate measures to address issues. Remember you child will want to act grown up and say they can handle everything - but they will not be able to cope with all issues and will need support. FAMILIARISE THEM WITH TRANSPORT ROUTES - ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE TRAVELLING BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT - Wont hurt to travel with them a couple of days. TIME TO LET GO ! - If my household is anything to go by - in some families the Mom " helps" with everything - if that is the case with you - it is time to let go so they can make independent decisions. Teach your child to make their own decisions rather than making it for them. If they are finding the academic workload daunting - maybe it is time to give them some support. When he came back he asked his employee. His employee was a Smart Alec so he answered as follows I counted in 2s and had one coconut left I then counted in 3s and had one coconut left I then counted in 4s And surprising I again had one coconut left !!... Then sir I counted in 5s and heh I had one coconut left then !!! I counted in sixes - and you know what ? I had one coconut left !! I finally counted in 7s - and finally sir i had no coconuts left.
