22.01.2022 And they will shine the brightest.

22.01.2022 Great news for Year 12 students from the Education Council! "There will be no year 13, every year 12 student will receive an ATAR this year" Dan Tehan - Federal Education Minister. A number of options have been flagged including:... - Extending the school year to allow for assessments to be made up - Revising the ATAR calculation in order to consider year 11 results That being said, with the potential for a substantial decline in university positions going to foreign students in the coming year depending on how COVID-19 further develops, this would leave more spots open for local students albeit leaving a hole in university funding.

22.01.2022 BREAKING: Premier & Education Minister clarify essential worker confusion. With so many parents now working from home as a result of COVID-19 mitigation strategies or restrictions. This is an important distinction that provides parents with the ability to assess their own circumstances and make the right decision for their family, a position that has been publicly supported by the Prime Minister. On Tuesday morning when speaking with HIT105, the Queensland Minister for Educ...ation, Grace Grace, was faced with a real-life example from a caller, Suzie. "Im a software developer, and currently working from home, am I allowed to send my daughter to school." The Ministers response all but acknowledged that there were potentially many situations where parents working from home may be unable to adequately supervise their children while still being at home and therefore defined as an essential worker. This response varies subtly yet importantly from the often referenced Frequently Asked Questions on the Department of Education website. "If youre obviously occupied, and you cant make arrangements for your children to be supervised while youre really engaged in your work from home then you will probably fall into that category of an essential worker," Minister Grace told Suzie. While the Premier sought to clarify the position amid a number of questions during her Wednesday morning briefing. The Premier outlined that schools are open for children of essential workers, but stay-at-home parents who are not working should not be sending their children and that this would be reviewed by the 15th of May. However, she further clarified in response to another question that "anyone who is in the workforce is considered an essential worker", which would include people who may be working from home but unable to supervise. While this aligns with the message delivered on Wednesday morning by the Prime Minister, it is at odds with the definition still provided on the Department of Education website. The Department of Education caused contention when it varied the definition of an Essential Worker as previously defined by the Cheif Health Officer in their Home Confinement, Movement and Gathering Direction Direction by appending the requirement that essential workers are only those required to attend their place of work.

17.01.2022 BREAKING: The Premier has announced that Queensland schools will operate under remote learning for at least the first five weeks of Term 2. Schools will remain open for children of Essential Workers and vulnerable children. But the Premier states that "All students who can learn from home are to stay at home."... Unfortunately, the term Essential Workers may be open to misinterpretation. The Prime Minister has often stated anyone who has a job is an essential worker. However, the implementation of this advice varies ever so slightly State by State. In Queensland, while there is not an official definition of Essential Worker the Public Health Directions - Home Confinement, Movement and Gathering Direction does provide a definition for an Essential Business (https://bit.ly/2RvLj9s). "Essential business, activity or undertaking means a business, activity or undertaking that is not prohibited by the Non-essential business, activity and undertaking Closure Direction (No.4), or its successor, or another Public Health Direction." Although this list referred to is into its 5th version, it simply includes all of the business or activities many people already know to be restricted, e.g. food service, auctions, beauty services, entertainment venues etc. View the full list here - https://bit.ly/2yciZlC

12.01.2022 Kids naturally want to make a meaningful contribution; however, to succeed at a young age, parents must believe that the kids have what it takes to be successful. If we embrace our responsibility and get our head in the game, it doesnt matter where we live; we can focus the minds of our young children on learning the joy and value of work and in the process, teach them self-respect that pillar of good character that is only acquired through genuine accomplishment. 04.01.2022 BREAKING: Federal education minister, Dan Tehan, has ordered independent schools to reopen and provide in-person education to children whose parents want it in term two. Dan Tehan has penned a letter to the peak bodies and the Independent Schools Council of Australia that also includes a condition that will make independent schools funding contingent on complying with that order. In the letter, Tehan said:... I am asking schools to retain a physical classroom environment for the children of parents who may not have a choice of keeping children at home. These might be the children of essential front line workers such as paramedics, nurses, doctors and police officers who, in the absence of a classroom option, are forced to make the decision to stop working in our essential services." Additionally, he stated, Students should also not be refused physical classroom access based on their parents employment." That being said, Tehan acknowledged that schools will have to follow the State and Territory health and education advice. Some students may struggle to adapt to a remote learning model.
