22.01.2022 The Tweed Chamber are keenly aware of issues facing industry and residents in the NSW/QLD border bubble. Yesterday, Tweed Chamber President Warren Polglase met with NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro, and our Local State Member of Parliament Geoff Provest. Mr Polglase put forward a proposal, on behalf of the chamber, requesting they work with the QLD Government to consider moving the bubble to the Ballina Shire boundary to significantly lessen the economic, mental health, and e...mployment impacts on those within the Tweed and Ballina shires. Furthermore, that the QLD Government acknowledges Tradies and Trade Suppliers, Medical, and Education as Essential Services. This common sense and a practical approach will endeavour to relieve the enormous pressure, that is on our business and local communities, let alone the very real issue of mental health. The NSW Government have been asked to supply the necessary resources to support this proposal. This proposal and request was received with a positive response and Mr Polglase was assured this is going to be further investigated by the NSW Deputy Premier. We need to remove the politics of this and use practical and common sense approach to get through these extreme and difficult times together.

15.01.2022 QLD border closure business survey. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/qldborder Health risks from Covid-19 are a concern for all communities and we understand that restrictions must be tightened to meet the health objectives of Government as necessary. However the current hard QLD border closure has highlighted the unintended consequences to the region’s businesses and the community more broadly. In the case of the Northern Rivers, Brisbane is our closest major city and is inex...tricably linked to us for trade, economic development and jobs. We have many Northern Rivers based businesses and workers who service Brisbane and similarly businesses and workers who live in Queensland and service the Northern Rivers. We have been receiving business impact statements over the past week and working with key stakeholders in Government to champion a cooperative strategy that would enable a high impact low risk outcome for QLD and the Northern Rivers. To assist Business NSW in further strengthening our case for a review of the parameters of the border closure we ask businesses impacted to complete the survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/qldborder also informing a broader assessment of impact and support requirements. It is likely that we will need to adjust to a longer-term COVID safe economy and this needs a strategy for how the Northern Rivers region, as a cross border community, can safely interact, work, trade and service within the Queensland market. Business NSW are hosting zoom forums with Government stakeholders on the issue, if you are interesting in participating please email [email protected] or phone on 0419260220.

14.01.2022 We are seeking additional stakeholder and community input and support for the Jack Evans Boat Harbour Business and community revitalisation strategic plan. After initial consultation with local business and community stakeholders, we have the beginnings of a strategic plan in boosting family and tourist utilisation of our amazing Jack Evans Boat Harbour. The existing potential vision includes installation of an on-shore water park, pop-up short term lease shops, exercise and ...obstacle course style areas, day beds, or beach equipment hire (lounge chairs, umbrellas, etc). Initially, the plan is to look towards the establishment of an on-shore water park, to attract families to spend the day at this under-utilised location. We want you to have your say in how you would like to see Jack Evans Boat Harbour revitalised, in terms of increased community utilisation and economic growth for existing and future local business. Please either leave your comments below or email your suggestions and recommendations to [email protected]
