25.01.2022 Discover the true cultural heritage of the Tweed with our Dreaming Culture Cruise... Dreaming Culture is a collaborative creation by local event organiser Mindy... Smith (The Petri Dish), GuriGuru (Garry Kafoa & Dan McCoy), Coodjingburra H.O.M.E (Helping Our Mob Everywhere) Wollumbin Dreaming, Johnny Franco’s Place and Tweed Escapes to bring you a unique, conscious, cultural event. This special Sunset Cruise on November 28th as part of the Tweed Artisan Food Weekend will feature a Welcome to Country by Coodjinburra traditional owners on country, and a smoking ceremony before departing Tumbulgum. (Russell Logan & Ernie Williams) Experience local and traditional flavours by enjoying three exceptional courses by chef Adam Housen (Johnny Franco’s Place). Local producers to be featured include Cheeses Loves You, Sylva Lining Organics, Gourmet Salad Hut, Tweed Fruit Exchange and Grumpy Grandma’s Olives. Local bush food ingredients will be sourced from Tropical Fruit World. Local drinks to accompany the meal include Buck’s Farm Native Finger Lime Beer, Jerseyana Numinbah Davidson’s Plum wine and non-alcoholic beers by Sobah Beverages. Be entertained with live music from Gary Kafoa and inspired conversations with Russell Logan and others. Gary Kafoa is a proud indigenous man from the banks of the Tweed River whose father was a local tribal elder. Born and bred by the river he spent 30 years as a professional fisherman, and he also has a long history as a local musician. Using a mixture of traditional and modern instrumentation, Gary sings of what was passed down to him by his elders and contemporary issues that affect us all today: and trying to step outside traditional rock song structures has meant mixing didgeridoo with modern dance beats and his own funk percussion techniques. The result is a new dimension in Indigenous storytelling born in the unique musical culture of the NSW North Coast.
